Episode 9
AIRED:
The seven remaining guys scampered down to breakfast as the reality of the game set in. One of them would be a millionaire. Jordan arrived and asked the guys to take a gamble. The guys arrived in the game room to find a blackjack table. Six of the guys, Jordan explained, would be going on two separate triple dates. One lucky ace would get his own single date with Erin. A mini-blackjack tournament would decide the winner of the solo date. Jordan dealt the first hand - which eliminated everyone except for Vic and Wade. In the second round, Vic held with 13 while Wade hit on 9 for a 19. Jordan had 9 and hit for 11, then again for 14 and a final time for 18. Luck was a lady that night and Wade had won a single date with Erin. Then Jordan told Greg, Chad V. and Vic that their date started in one hour! Greg felt his group was a competitive bunch. Vic, who was left out of the prior group date, felt lucky just to be included. High atop a mountain, the guys met Erin at a ropes course. Why she wore a tube top to do an obstacle course is still a mystery. Erin was looking forward to breaking through with at least one of the guys. She knew if she didn't connect with them, they would choose the money over her. The ropes course is intended to create confidence and inspire team spirit. Vic and Erin were teamed up first and bonded over the experience, which surprised Erin. Greg and Erin were next. (Erin had to do the death-defying rope thing twice!) Their balance seemed a little off compared to Erin and Vic…was that a sign? Erin said Greg wasn't as supportive as Vic. The log challenge for Chad V and Erin demanded teamwork and Erin was hesitant initially. Her fear of heights paralyzed her until Chad calmed her down and coaxed her across the beam. Vic wasn't thrilled with the obvious chemistry between Chad and Erin. During the limo ride home, the age topic came up. Erin seemed surprised to learn that Vic is only 25. Erin said she usually dates guys that are two or three years older than her. Meanwhile, back at the mansion, Wade was all spiffed up for his alone date. Erin was pleasantly surprised to spend quality time with Wade. They climbed into a very familiar looking vintage convertible (see FLOM1 #104) and soon arrived at the Hollywood Bowl. The historic amphitheatre was empty except for a romantic dinner for two. After the sun set, the lights on stage came up and a voice boomed from below. They made their way down towards the stage as a live band performed. Erin and Wade danced the night away under the stars. The evening ended without a kiss, which seemed to disappoint Erin. He later admitted that he blew it. Wade felt the need to share the romantic details of the date with the rest of the guys - which certainly didn't go over well. The next day, Chad F., Thomas and Eric journeyed to the Santa Monica Pier for their group date with Erin. Erin, wearing yet another tank top, said she was most smitten with Chad, while Thomas looked suave. The entire Pacific Park - a small amusement park on the pier - was shut down for Erin and the guys. After playing some games and riding some rides, the guys each tried to win Erin a 49ers stuffed animal (her dad used to play for the 49ers). After Thomas failed, Eric nailed it! As the day continued, Erin and Thomas shared a cozy Ferris wheel ride and learned more about each other. Then it was up, up and away for Erin and Chad F. Erin was trying to vibe which guy was more into the money versus her. Finally, Eric climbed into the hot seat for a panoramic view and quality time. He had planned on making a move, but he chickened out in the moment. Eric said he was starting to fall for her and Erin replied, "Thanks." Ouch! He won her the 49ers bear and all he gets is "thanks"? Bummer, dude. Back at the mansion, the guys were jovial…until Jordan appeared. That night, two more would be eliminated leaving five guys in the running. Vic felt he was hanging on by a thread, while Eric put himself at even money. Greg felt pretty good about his odds. On the other hand, Wade thought everyone was starting to "smell the money" but that he was in it for the right reasons. That's what they all say Wade! That night, Erin arrived at the elimination ceremony and started by saying it would be her most difficult decision so far. She called Wade down first and not surprisingly, he was asked to stay. She told Eric that he intrigued her and that she wanted him to keep his ring. Thomas was next and she gave him a big hug. Then after praising his energy and great qualities, she told him to hit the road! (But, you know, she said it nicely). Vic seemed more upset than Erin did that Thomas was leaving. When Chad V. faced Erin she said that he read her perfectly at the rope course and that she looked forward to spending more time with her. Only three remained: Vic, Chad F. and Greg. She told Greg he was darling and asked him to stay. Vic or Chad would be heading home. Erin called Chad down, while Vic mentally started packing. However, Erin told Chad that they were too similar. She asked for Chad's ring, and Vic stopped holding his breath. Vic couldn't believe his luck - he was in the final five.moreless
