For The People was young and handsome William Shatner's first series in a leading role as a New York City assistant district attorney. The show had a gritty New York ambiance, a realistic tone, and quality writing.

Winning the critics with high acclaim, For The People didn't win the hearts of viewers and was canceled after 13 episodes, which was a good thing for future Star Trek fans since if the show had continued, Shatner would have been unavailable to step into the boots of James T. Kirk.
