Forever Green

ITV (ended 1992)
EDIT

Show Summary

  • Ended
Having inherited a country house from a lady Harriet Boult (Pauline Collins) nursed, the Boults move to the Somerset countryside with their children Freddy and Tom.

The series has all the usual cliches like stubborn farmers, horse theft, crop spraying, city interlopers, badger baiting and the aristocratic lady of the manor, amongst many others.

However it is all the better for it in that like when drinking a Coca-Cola, you know what you are getting before opening the can!

Car lovers will like the sub-plot of Jack Boult(John Alderton) being an ex-rally driver who ends up working in the local classic car garage.

He drives a wonderful Alvis convertible and discovers for his boss, amongst other things, a Bugatti and a Rolls-Royce.

To summarise, any city dweller with a hankering for the country will love this soft focus and almost sugary portrayal of the English countryside and like me will be scouring the internet for old country houses to do up!

  • Another really good British program.

    "Great"
Another really good British program. If this is a show that you do not normally watch and you are sitting at home with nothing to do, you are going to wish you had it on tape. Having it "on tape " had become the generic term for recorded programs. Today you are more likely to have the show on Tivo or DVR than VHS, or god forbid Beta!! It is kind of like how a lot of people still call CD's "records" or "albums." Anyway, back to the show. This is the type of show that is really pretty good if you would just give it a chance. So on those cold, lonely, rainy days, pop in your tape or DVR or whatever if you were smart enough to tape it. If not, check to see if it is on as a re-run. After all, as they say, if you have never seen it, it is new to you.moreless
  • The husband and wife team of John Alderton and Pauline Collins come together to make a wonderful series about countryside issues, city interlopers and eco matters.
