LaCroix: What justice is sweeter than that exacted by those who've been wronged?
Nick: Maybe I should help her (the battered woman). LaCroix: Oh, don't be such a fool, Nicholas. After all, which is more amusing: some tawdry domestic melodrama or a pair of prize cocks pecking each other's eyes out?
Tracy: (to Nick) You know, you're lucky you don't have any family. I mean, I know it must be a drag around the holidays, but trust me, family is not all it's cracked up to be.
Laura: (to Nick and Tracy, after Hendersen has been released) How do you people sleep at night? How do you rationalize your incompetence?
Nick tries to intervene on the behalf of a battered woman LaCroix: Your powers of suggestion need honing and your gallantry is misplaced. She has nothing without him and she knows it. Nick: He beats her and yet she runs to him. LaCroix: She would have more rights and freedom if she were his dog, Nicholas.
Tracy: Mom, I thought you stopped drinking. Mrs. Vetter: Oh, well, I like to have a little drink on special occasions. Tracy: Oh yeah? What's so special about today? Let me guess, Wednesday?
