It was coincidence that I watched Dark Knight (which aired as a 90-minute movie in my country, i.e the two eps were put together). I simply happened to change the channel the second it came on. I was drawn into the story from the beginning. I'm a history nut, so anything that starts with Paris 1228 has my attention. Besides, I liked the look of it (I saw the original pilot a bit later, also happened upon it by coincidence)and was drawn by the story that a vampire was trying to redeem himself.
The only thing I never liked was the character of Alyce Hunter.
There are also some logical flaws to the episode that stem from it being translated to Toronto. They didn't fully "canadanize" the script and some US specific things were left in it. But those never spoiled the entertainment value and I still find it one of my favorite episodes.
