Someone is killing homeless people and draining their blood. At the same time a museum guard is killed the same way and a special artifact is stolen, a Mayan cup that Nick believes can help him become mortal again. Nick suspects that his old mentor LaCroix is in town and behind the murders. Forced into a partnership with the obnoxious Detective Schanke, Nick has to face both LaCroix and the Homeless Killer while trying to protect his friends.moreless

Part 2 provides a pitch-perfect wrapup to this arresting story. Everything comes together in a finely paced unfolding of events.

I feel the scene at the slaughterhouse, where Alyce discovers Nick's (and LaCroix's) secret, is exceptionally well done. Her shocked gasp sets off a brief but intense skirmish in which her life is imperiled and Nick and LaCroix fight. LaCroix loses, but is hardly dead.

I do not feel the circumstances which result in Nick, LaCroix, the killer and Alyce converging at Nick's apartment are at all contrived. The climactic showdown is richly satisfying, especially the staking of LaCroix to the wall!

Although LaCroix appears to be gone for good (except for the flashback sequences in future episodes), I can't help but feel that he WILL be back. I'm new to this series and have no idea how things will go. Also, since LaCroix turned Alyce into a vampire moments before his own apparent demise, I hope she will make occasional appearances throughout the series. I guess that remains to be seen.moreless
