  • good idea, mediocre execution

The original pilot has a rather low standing among the fans of the series. Not totally deserved in my opinion. Rick Springfield does well as the angst-driven vampire turned cop in search for mortality. It is highly questionable that he could have carried this over to the eventual series where Nick (now called Nicholas de Brabant and about 400 years older than the original Nick)is seen in numerous historical flashbacks. Those scenes needed a classically trained actor. Only one actor eventually made it into the series: John Kapelos as Schanke.

What do I like about Nick Knight?

    1) the storyline: a vampire looking for redemption was nothing new since Anne Rice's Louis de Lioncourt but showing him as basically a human being with a handicap rather than a mythical creature was refreshing. None of that turning-into-bats crap and living in a dusty old castle.

    2) visuals: this pilot did have a higher budget than the second one and it shows - better flight scenes, exteriors (showing Alyce at the archaeological dig)

    3) the strong female - a sassy Alyce Hunter as oppossed to the needy clingy girl in Dark Knight (since the part of strong female was then given to Natalie)

    4) good music - Rhythm Devine by Yello is still one of my favs

What do I not like about Nick Knight?

    1) most of the cast - Michael Nader as Lacroix was annoying although believable as Nick's nemesis; the actress playing Janette however totally failed to convince me that anyone would give up the sun for her; except for John Kapelos the rest of the cast was mediocre at best

    2) ridiculous make-up

I was glad they picked the story up and turned it into the series I came to love.moreless
  • Before there was Forever Knight, there was Nick Night, a made-for-TV movie using the same basic premise as Forever Knight. But the cast and concept were greatly refined in the TV series, which was relocated from Los Angeles to Toronto.moreless

Many interesting ideas (a vampire cop, trying to break his addiction to blood and atone for his sins), but it needed the fine tuning that took place in the minds of the creators between the filming of this movie, and the pilot for the re-cast TV series, Forever Knight.

    • In this pilot, Nick's original name was given as Jean-Pierre (this was how he was addressed by both Jeanette and Lacroix). In the series, they called him Nicholas.
Many of the characters were changed from original pilot to series. Of special note is that Nick's pathologist friend undergoes a sex change between the original pilot and the series.
