The morning after Bloo and Mac vandalize the Applebee's apartment, Mac's still in his pajamas and says they should be "waking up any minute now". When they hear their plan didn't work, Bloo immediately kidnaps Duchess and they run out the door with her. Terrance chases them, reaches the house first and tells Frankie and Herriman "They'll be here by night fall", and Frankie answers "You mean, within the next two or three minutes?" By the time Mac and Bloo arrive with Duchess, it's dark out.
Throughout the second half of the episode, the show begins more towards the Lord of the Rings : The Two Towers.
Characters and scenes as follows:
Terrence enters the door as Aragorn enters Helm's Deep. And speaking to Foster, Frankie and Mr. Herriman much like Grima Wormtongue.
Madame Foster, when she make her speech to the imaginary friends, her dialogue is part King Theoden and Saruman (including his word "To war!"). When lead the defense, she play as Aragorn.
After Bloo resembles the Eye of Sauron, freezing rain pours as much as the movie's.
Eduardo shoots the apple before Foster says fire resembles one of the Yeomen archers.
When Foster orders Wilt to stop them, Wilt plays the role as Legolas.
During Duchess' morning routine, she was being treated like royalty. You'd think that Duchess would eat something more royal than cereal.
Singapore is not actually in Malaysia. It was part of Malaysia, but separated in 1965 and today is its own country.
When Bloo puts his clown mask on, his hands are bare, but when he says that his mask matches his mittens, his mittens are on.
The final line of the Foster's motto reads "We will house and nurture forever more.", but nurture is spelled out nuture.
The resistance formed by Madame Foster to prevent Duchess from being brought back to Foster's by Mac and Bloo is a parody of the climatic battle between Rohan and the Uruk-hai at Helms Deep from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The battle even followed the order how the battle was fought in 'The Two Towers; replacing sharpened carrots with arrows. Madame Foster even shouts out dialogue similar to King Theoden and or Aragorn's commands as he and his men fought of the Uruks.
Duchess: (To Mac and Bloo) Get outta my way Blinkie and Clyde!
Ugly Dad: Now if we adopt you, will you promise to be good?
Duchess: Now if I let you adopt me, will you promise to be less ugly?!
(Ugly family's mouths gape open in shock)
Mac: (About the Applebees) It's like they're immune.
Bloo: Well we'll have to make them mune... by any means necessary.
(Pause as the clocks tick)
Mac: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
Bloo: Sandwich break!
Mac: (At the same time) Sabotage!
Bloo: Oh, right. Your idea's much better. Sabotage.
Mr. Herriman: How long?!
Terrence: They'll be here by nightfall.
Frankie: You mean four or five minutes?
Terrence: (Dramatically) Yes.
Bloo: If I were in charge here, I would kick her botox to the curb. So, what's the dealio?
Mr. Herriman: Ah, it's a fine question you pose. This visual aid should explain what, indeed, the dealio is.
(Mac and Bloo are straining, while carrying Duchess)
Mac: Singapore's not -- that -- far away.
Bloo: Yeah, and I hear that they got -- great cheese in -- Wisconsin.
(Mac sighs, and Duchess whacks Bloo with a brush)
Madame Foster: Show 'em what's up, doc!
Mac: Duchess is living next door?! (Screaming) NO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O!!!
Duchess: Quiet out there!
Mac: (Silently to himself) No-o-o-o-o-o!
(Later, Mac and Bloo are laughing out loud when...)
Duchess Quiet out there!
(Mac and Bloo giggle)
Madame Foster: Granny Smith, Red Delicious, FIRE!!!
Mac: Singapore, here I come!
Terrence: (As the Foster's gang stare at him angrily) Um, uh, as they say in Wisconsin, Sayonara! (Runs off)
The imaginary octopus behind Madame Foster resembles "Dr. Octopus" from the Spiderman comics.
Look Hard: Mac apparently has an MP3 player which looks a lot like the Apple iPod.
Look Hard: During the montage showing the various advertisements for Duchess there is a brief shot of the
TADA football arena, more then likely a reference to Vaughn Tada who works on the show as a story border.
UK airdate: November 4, 2005.
Duchess can hear faint sound and/or music perfectly, sort of like Mr. Herriman's ability to hear.
Human Debuts: The Applebees.
Imaginary Friend Debuts: Masseussy, Pedicurio, Wally.
The robot friend in the back is literally doing the Robot, as well as Michael Jackson's moonwalk.
The Foster's Motto:
Give us your tired, your poor
Imaginary friends with no beds but the floor.
Your cast off Creatures, Pedigrees, and Mutts
Even if they're royal pains in the butts.
Any friend who enters through this door,
We will house and nuture forever more.
Animation Studio: Boulder Media, Ltd.
Listen Closely: The music that Bloo has with the puppet gloves is the same music he dances to in "Adoptcalypse Now."
When the party breaks out after Duchess is adopted, Bloo does the dance from "Adoptcalypse Now" while Wilt does the same dance moves from "Partying Is Such Sweet Soiree."
Credits: The Applebees play a game of "Go Fish."
Running Gags: 1) Terrence, Bloo, and everyone else confusing Singapore with Wisconsin. 2) Duchess telling Mac to quiet down the screaming and/or laughing, then he does it silently.
Look Hard: A Madame Foster's cookies bobble head, like the one seen in "Cookie Dough" is on Mac's desk whilst Duchess is griping during the outset of Act Two.
First appearance of Mac and Terrence's mom since "House of Bloo's." However, her face is still not shown.
Foster's has another "IN CASE OF (NAME OF IMAGINARY FRIEND) BEING ADOPTED" alarm. For Duchess, it was to throw a party, complete with the kickin' bass beat version of the Foster's theme.
Duchess call Eduardo "Senor Smells-A-Lot" and calls Mac and Bloo "Blinky" and "Clyde." Blinky and Clyde are the names of the Red and Orange ghosts from Pac-Man that turn blue when Pac-Man eats a power pill..
Title Card Sound: Duchess wailing.
There is an orange imaginary friend that looks exactly like Trogdor from homestarrunner.com.
Applebees
Probably named after a restaurant called "Applebees".
The Foster's Motto: The Statue Of Liberty
The Foster's Motto is similar to the poem on the Statue Of Liberty, written by Emma Lazurus.
The Applebees: Appearance
Mac's neighbors bare a resemblance to the Flanders family from The Simpsons. Like the Flanders, the Applebees are ridiculously nice and it's nearly impossible to make them angry.
Madame Foster: Granny Smith, Red Delicious... FIRE!
Granny Smith and Red Delicious are two different types of apples. Granny Smith apples are green.
Duchess: Outta my way Blinky, Clyde!
An obvious reference to the classic 1980's video game Pac-Man, in which the ghosts were named Inky, Pinky, Blinky, and Clyde. In Ms. Pac-Man, however, Clyde was replaced by Sue. When either Pac-Man or Ms. Pac-Man ate a special pill, the ghosts turned blue.
Mac: What? How did they know we were coming?
Bloo: The mighty Eye of Foster's sees all.
Bloo is making an allusion to the Eye of Sauron in The Lord of the Rings.
Madame Foster: Show 'em what's up, doc!
An reference to Looney Tunes chief protagonist Bugs Bunny's tagline.
n/a: Lord of the Rings
The battle between Foster's Home and Mac and Bloo at the end resembles the Battle of Helm's Deep from The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
Bloo: Attack of the killer tomatoes!
A reference from the infamous bad movie (and animated series) of the same name Attack of The Killer Tomatoes.
Episode Title: Duchess Of Wails
The title is of course a reference to the late Lady Diana Spencer, who was the Princess of Wales until her death in an automobile accident in Paris, France in September of 1997.
