The 5nd annual Emmy Awards ceremony was held a few weeks prior to this telecast (2/5/1953) at the Hotel Statler in Los Angeles. Jimmy Durante won the Emmy as Best Comedian. Also nominated were Herb Shriner, Jackie Gleason, Sid Caesar and Wally Cox.
The nominees for Most Outstanding Personality were Jimmy Durante, Donald O'Connor, Lucille Ball, Arthur Godfrey, Edward R. Murrow, Adlai Stevenson, and the winner, Bishop Fulton J. Sheen.
