Fox After Breakfast

"Fox After Breakfast" was a revamping of the far superior "Breakfast Time" on the fX network. Unfortunately, in transferring the show to Fox, the powers that be steadily removed everything about the show that made it worth watching. Although the new announcer, Nancy Giles, was a talented actress and comedian, she simply couldn't take the place of beloved "Breakfast Time" announcer Jim Kocot. Jeff MacGregor made a good new road warrior, but those who had been eliminated were missed. And the shortening of the show to an hour made everything too rushed.



Then, when the show wasn't working as it ought to have done, instead of restoring what worked initially, the powers that be now began eliminating people: first co-host Laurie Hibberd, and then Bob the Puppet, after which any of the show's originality was gone for good. Before too long even Tom Bergeron was gone, and the show became the Vicki Lawrence show, which died a quick death.



If "Fox After Breakfast" had maintained the quality of "Breakfast Time," it might still be with us. But in trying to fix what was never broken to begin with, the Fox executives managed to destroy a show that was, indeed, a breath of fresh air in the mornings.
