October 1940. Christopher Foyle is woken in his home when his son, an RAF pilot, has returned and is found rummaging in the kitchen.

A woman who was gone for the night returns home to find her home bombed. The authorities find her husband - dead from a stab wound. The man was a truck driver and just got back from moving a valuable art collection to a hiding place for safe keeping.

Sam's father, the vicar, has come to Hastings to ask his daughter to come home with him.

The history lesson this week is the development of radar. Andrew is on a hush hush assignment, flying around the base, testing the radar system. This was all been done under the strictest security. There is a dark secret at this base and soon Andrew is pulled into the web on trumped up charges.

Can DCS Foyle solve two murders and save his son at the same time?

As usual, many different issues have a surprising conclusion by the end of the show. The episode ends with the base being attacked, the Eagle Day bombing raids that gave this finale its name.

My husband is an avid history buff. He liked this show more than the others he's watched and that is saying a lot.
