Season 2 Episode 21

An Affair to Forget

Aired Thursday 9:00 PM May 02, 1995 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • The masts on the Clipper Ship model Niles and Martin are building, are made of the same plastic as the rest of the ship and highly detailed. The wooden "mast" -- broken by Niles as a gag -- is nothing more than a wooden dowel.

    • It is odd that when Frasier said "zapatos" (the Spanish word for "shoes") when Niles accused Gunnar of sleeping with Maris, he thought it meant "wife".  But when Marta said the word "zapatos" only minutes later translating for Gunnar, Frasier immediately knew the word's actual meaning.

    • When the vase is broken during the swordfight, notice the way it has been damaged. When Niles comes back down the stairs, the damage to the vase is different.

    • In the credits, Niles gives Maris a rose when she is in the tank, but a few episodes earlier, Niles had a fight with Maris and he said he couldn't buy her roses because she was allergic.

    • In this episode, Frasier says he doesn't speak German, and they have to converse with the fencing instructor in Spanish, with Maris's housekeeper translating. However, Frasier was able to speak German in both an episode of Cheers, and a later episode of Frasier.

  • Quotes

    • Niles: En garde!
Frasier: Oh yes, Niles, that's just what we need, a fourth language!

    • Roz: You just tell her you know she's been mattress-surfing with some other guy, and if she doesn't knock it off, you'll tell her husband.
Frasier: It's-it's not that easy, you don't know this woman! She doesn't deal with confrontation very well. I once questioned the political correctness of her serving veal. An hour later, we found her locked in the garage with the engine running on her golf cart!
      Roz: (wide-eyed) Whoa, it's MARIS.

    • Martin: (sarcastic) Maris is learning German, huh? Just when you thought she couldn't get any cuddlier.

    • Daphne: Schooner? I thought it was a frigate.
Niles: No, no, a frigate has a fore-and-aft mainsail.
Daphne: No, no, that's a brigantine.
Niles: Oh, you're right. Well, then what's a frigate?
Martin: (sighing) That's when you just don't give a damn anymore.
