  • Jane Leeves

    Daphne Moon Crane

    9.0
Jane Leeves, was born in London but raised in East Grinstead, West Sussex, UK. At the age of 5 she recalls writing in a schoolbook that she wanted to be an actress, but until the age of 18, when she had a tragic ankle accident and had to discontinue, she wanted to be a ballerina. After the accident she took to less strenuous dancing, in music videos, like "California Girls." She then decided she wanted to become an actress, and starred in shows with small roles for a while, like "Monty Python and the Meaning of Life", as an angel, and singing every sperm is sacred. Then in 1984, after someone told her she'd have more chances in America, she let her flat go, sold or gave away most of her possessions, packed a suitcase and $1000, and bought a one-way ticket to LA. She said she cried most of the journey and the first weeks she was there, and (of which I am unsure, there are 2 different stories) she either stayed with a man she met in Paris, or in a rented room owned by the mum of a girl she met while dancing. Later she shared a flat with Faith Ford. After Faith got some good roles, Jane began to think lightening wouldn't strike twice in the same flat, but it did. She got some roles too, including virgin Marla Penney, who was in one of the most memorable "Seinfield" episodes, "The Contest", seducing JFK jr. Then she was called to audition for a new series, spun off from "Cheers", called "Frasier" she was the only one they had in mind for the part, and after a bit of reading, received it. She starred on the show for 11 years, as Daphne Moon, the home care specialist from Manchester. She works alongside Peri Gilpin, who plays Roz Doyle, and the two have made a company called "Bristol Cities" Jane married Marshall Coben in 1996, and has had two children with him, one daughter named Isabella Kathryn Coben in January 2001 and one son named Finn William Leeves Coben in December 2003. "Frasier" has ended its 11 year run and at the beginning of 2006 Jane will be starring in a new series "Misconceptions".moreless

He interrupted his stage work for a role in his first feature film, Bright Lights, Big City (1988), before departing on a tour of the Soviet Union and Japan in The Cherry Orchard from 1988 to 1989. But it was after the filming of Sleepless in Seattle (1993) that Pierce got his biggest break. He received his initial interview with the creators of Frasier (1993) due to his close resemblance to Kelsey Grammer. After the interview, the part of Dr. Niles Crane was written for him. Prior to Frasier, David starred in the former series The Powers That Be (1992), in which he portrayed Theodore Van Horn, a chronically depressed and suicidal United States congressman. His additional television credits include guest-starring roles on the series Spenser: For Hire, Caroline in the City, The Outer Limits and The Simpsons. Felicity Huffman is an Oscar-nominated Golden-Globe-winning actress popular for her brilliant portrayals of Bree Osbourne, a pre-operative male-to-female transsexual, in the critically-acclaimed 2006 comedy-drama Transamerica and as Lynette Scavo, Wisteria Lane's overwhelmed mother-of-four on ABC's hit series Desperate Housewives. Born in Bedford, New York, she grew up with seven siblings in Aspen, Colorado. Her acting career began while she was attending high school at the Arts Academy in Interlochen, Michigan. After majoring in theater and graduating in 1981, Felicity earned her Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts from the prestigious New York University Tisch School of the Arts in 1988. She also went to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. Professionally, she established her acting career via her appearances on Broadway and Off-Broadway productions. • Millicent Martin

    Gertrude Moon

    8.8
Her flame-red hair suggested both great reserves of energy and an earthiness that wasn't to be messed with; she was pretty and a good actress; but it was the voice, above all, which made Millicent Martin someone very special in British television in the 1960s. Sounding sometimes like a mellifluous corncrake, sometimes like a sweet bell, and always like nothing else on earth, the voice was made for the intricate lyrics (different every week) for the title-song of "That Was The Week That Was", a show which also always gave her a terrific jazz song to sing about halfway through (usually composed by the team of Dave Lee and Stephen Vinaver). She was funny and clever and singular, and she did altogether too little on British TV after "TW3" was cravenly curtailed by the BBC at the end of 1963. America gave her better chances - she starred in "Side By Side By Sondheim" on Broadway, had a recurring role in a short-lived series called "Downtown" and had a late triumph on "Frasier", playing Daphne's impossible mother.moreless

    8.7
Despite spending the first 25 years of his life in Adelaide, Australia, Anthony LaPaglia is best known for playing street-savvy Italian New Yorkers. This was not, however, Anthony's original plan. Rather than testing the waters of show business, he travelled to the United States intending to pursue a full-time teaching career. As luck would have it, however, one of Anthony's odd jobs was a small role in Cold Steel (1987), a low-budget detective drama. Anthony began pursuing theatre and television in his spare time - one of his more notable early performances was in 1988's Frank Nitti: The Enforcer - and considered himself a full-time actor by 1989, when he made his feature-film debut in Slaves of New York. It was 1990, however, when the young actor earned critical recognition for his role as an exceedingly polite mobster in Betsy's Wedding. Anthony continued to build his rsum throughout the early '90s, most of which he spent playing either kindly policemen or good-hearted mobsters, and was delighted to work alongside a variety of noted actors so early in his career. Among those actors were Alan Alda in Betsy's Wedding, Michael Keaton in One Good Cop (1991), and Nathan Lane, Sharon Stone, and Kevin Bacon in He Said, She Said (1992). Later in 1992, Anthony could be found playing his first leading role in George Gallo's gangster farce 29th Street. Though the film did not fare particularly well, audiences were nonetheless impressed with Anthony's intensity, and he played a more serious gangster with great success opposite Susan Sarandon in The Client (1994). He switched gears for his next handful of films; in Mixed Nuts (1994) he played a disillusioned Santa Claus, while Empire Records (1995) found him as a down-on-his-luck store manager, and the Australian-helmed Brilliant Lies (1996) featured him as the defendant in a sketchy sexual-harassment case. Despite a smattering of mediocre films between 1995 and the early 2000s, Anthony continued to earn critical acclaim for many of his endeavours, such as Steve Buscemi's directorial debut, Trees Lounge (1996), for which Anthony joined a star-studded supporting cast, as well as for his role as a detective in Spike Lee's Summer of Sam (1999). Luckily for him, 2000 and 2001 proved excellent for his career, as it was during this period that he played a wealthy businessman in The House of Mirth and an adulterous police detective in Lantana. In addition to receiving international success, Lantana earned Anthony the prestigious 'Best Actor' award from the Australian Film Institute, as well as a nomination from the Film Critics Circle. In the meantime, he was adding several major television credits to his rsum, including a starring role as the head of the FBI's Missing Persons Squad on CBS's Without a Trace, and a recurring role on the long-running sitcom Frasier, a performance for which he would receive an Emmy in 2002. Far removed from his fledgling days as a teacher, 2002 also found Anthony working with Val Kilmer for The Salton Sea; Sigourney Weaver for The Guys; Robert De Niro and Billy Crystal in Analyze That; and Eric Stoltz in Happy Hour. In 2003, after filming Manhood with Janeane Garofalo and the late John Ritter, Anthony agreed to star in director Josh Sternfeld's Winter Solstice (2004).moreless
