At one point in this episode, Frasier enters his ex-girfriend's answering machine and listens to his own messages, and then accidentally deletes all of them. A very similar gag had been used in the TV series ' Friends more than a year before, in the episode 'The One Where No One's Ready' (season 3, episode 2), when Monica calls her ex-boyfriend Richard's answering machine, deletes all his messages and ends up recording a new (and surreal) welcome message for him.
Martin says that Eddie's birthday is May 7th but in 'Goodnight Seattle (1)', it is May 15th.
Frasier says his birthday is in March, yet in 'Are You Being Served?' the entry in Hester's old diary for April 14th says that she is expecting her first child soon.
(Frasier has been lamenting the fact that his girlfriend Sam has broken up with him) Niles: It's love then? Frasier: Well, I don't know about love. We've only been seeing each other for a month. Niles: But, you could see yourself falling in love with her? Frasier: Possibly. Niles: Sometime down the line? Frasier: Yes... yes, perhaps. Niles: Well, no wonder you're heartbroken. You've just lost the only woman you could even possibly, sometime down the line, perhaps, fall in love with. I'm surprised the country music people haven't jumped all over this one.
(Martin, stuck without his remote control, is trying to press the buttons on the TV with a broom handle from his chair) Niles: Frasier, you're obsessing over this. Frasier: I'm not obsessing, Dad's obsessi - Dad, what the hell are you doing?!
(About attempting self-improvement) Roz: C'mon Fras, I've been down this road so many times I call it the Roz Expressway. Niles: I've heard that term before, just in a slightly different context...
(While listing Frasier's faults) Martin: Pretentious. Frasier: Dad, I already wrote that down. Martin: Underline it.
International Episode Titles: Czech Republic: Život s láskou a celebritami (Life with Love and Celebrities)
Dan Butler does not appear in this episode.
The episode title is a play on the 1982 movie, Desperately Seeking Susan, which starred Madonna and Rosanna Arquette.
(Niles has helped Frasier deal with his breakup with Sam) Frasier: How can I ever repay you? Niles: Well, you can start by getting me into that VIP room at 'Le Cigare Volant'. Where is the entrance? (suddenly, answering his own question) Behind the cigarette machine! Frasier: No, that's just a decoy. It's through the dry cleaner next door. This may very well be an allusion to the 1964 TV series, The Man From U.N.C.L.E., in which the secret entrance to U.N.C.L.E. headquarters was through a dry cleaning shop.
