  • An episode that switches from farce to character development.

In an episode directed by Kelsey Grammer the emphasis is put on the (growing) relationship between Niles and Daphne. It starts as a farce with different characters misunderstanding other characters. 'Frasier' is very good at that, as long as it is not done too much. Halfway through the show becomes a two-character play with wonderfully touching performances, especially by David Hyde Pierce. It is remarkable that a large part of the jokes is created by having the tension between what Daphne knows and what the audience is aware of. When the audience laughs at unintentially funny lines by Daphne, we see Niles cringe. We laugh and we are touched at the same time.
