Frasier insists that he doesn't need help finding a date, but changes his mind after a disastrous elevator encounter with a former date that he can't remember. Frasier reluctantly agrees to pay Charlotte's $10,000 fee, but winds up on a series of horrendous dates. He fires Charlotte and demands his money back after his next date fails to show. He then discovers that Charlotte has lied about having a successful service, as she only has five other clients. Charlotte breaks down and admits that she has already spent his fee. She apologizes for deceiving him and explains that she was a very successful matchmaker in Chicago, but lost her business to her ex-husband. Frasier spends the evening chatting with Charlotte over drinks and becomes fascinated with her. He is disappointed to learn that she has a boyfriend, and cannot stop thinking about her. Meanwhile, Niles and Daphne feel inadequate after talking with one of the more sensitive couples from their La Maze class. They begin eating healthy food, and Niles develops sympathy pains and weight gain. They also hire a doula and plan a natural birth, despite Roz's warnings about the pain involved.
