Everybody remembers memories they have or hope to have in the hospital.

Niles is in the hospital, and everybody is there for him, Frasier even goes to the trouble, in detailing Niles surgery, and the doctors who are working, even going as far as to telling them how to do their job.

As Niles leaves for surgery he says he mentions memories how the hospital halls must be filled with them, which got everybody thinking, and throughout the episode you seen scenes from the past, in the form of hospital rooms, which I thought was a very nice touch.

Daphne is so terrified that she even breaks a vending machine when Martin and Frasier are arguing because Martin's candy bar got stuck.

Once she finds out Niles is ok, she calms down and begins thinking about the future.

The flashback showing in the hospital rooms was a great way to show events that happened in the past.moreless

This episode is a very well written one and heartfelt to the core. The acting is superb. The story focuses mainly on Niles and Daphny and puts Frasiers antics in the outscurts which makes his annoyance not so bothersome, at least not as usual. The flashbacks to times in the hospital of Roz and the family are so sweet and reveal alot about the way they act in stress and how thay feel about each other. The family ties are special and Daphney's reactions to Niles's surgery is realistic and reveals her to really love him very much. The ending with the children is especialy great as it gives us hope about the characters lives.moreless

"Perfect"

Often when a situation comedy decides to tell an emotional story instead of going for the laughs, the result is tedious and preachy. This episode is anything but. As Niles undergoes heart surgery, the rest of the cast each tries to cope with his danger in their own ways: Frasier immerses himself in the details of the operation, Martin tries to pretend nothing is wrong, and Roz tries to keep Daphne from falling apart. Meanwhile, the hospital itself seems to flash back to different eras of the characters' lives, other times they were there -- some funny scenes, some that turned out well, others that ended in tragedy. Even the scene where Daphne smashes a vending machine with a fire extinguisher doesn't elicit so much as a giggle from the laugh track -- it's a powerful, heartbreaking moment.

One of the few times that a comedy does its best work by not being funny -- and one of the best episodes of this series.moreless

- When Martin gives Niles the comic book, Niles calls it a "Jughead Double Digest". Archie digests are smaller sized comics, while the comic Martin gives Niles is clearly full-sized.

- Among the clips in this episode, we see Niles holding a daughter, and Daphne givng birth to anouther daugter. This is strange because in the final episode of the show Daphne has a son, NOT a daughter. However, the reason Daphne had a son in the final episode (named David) was because the child was to honour David Angell, one of the co-writers who tragically died in the 9/11 plane crashes. If David Angell had not died, it is likely the child would have been a girl, for continuity reasons.
