Each episode has a different beginning title to do with the Skyline of Seattle. This episode features a blinking red light on top of the Space Needle.
The setup for Frasier would be an almost exact reversal of the original setup for Cheers. In Cheers you have the sophisticated, intellectual (Diane Chambers) joining a group of middle to lower class, uneducated working class people and what a tough time she has fitting in and they have accepting her. In Fraiser you have the working class common man (Martin Crane) joining a group of intellectuals (Frasier and Niles) and attempting to get along.
In the scene which Daphne first comes to the apartment, the beer can and remote control on Martin's side table change positions between shots.
KACL, the radio station where Frasier works, owes its name to the initials of the three producers and writers of the show: David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee.
In this episode you can see the top of the Space Needle out of Frasier's windows. It is the only time it is visible in the whole series because from the second episode on the upper windows are blocked by Roman shades.
The chair that Niles moves to make room for Martin's recliner is a Wassily Chair. It was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1925 and named after his friend, the painter Wassily Kandinsky. This chair, Breuer's best known design, was originally created for the Bauhaus Buildings in Dessau, Germany. By the end of this episode the chair has disappeared and is not seen again until "Dial M For Martin" (season six), during Martin's brief stay with Niles.
Frasier is told that his show has only 30 seconds left and then he gets cut off to go to the hourly news. Yet when he stands up you can see the clock on the wall showing 7 minutes to the hour.
Martin states in this episode that Daphne can have the room across the hall from his, which is (at the time) Frasier's study. Unfortunately (as we later learn), both Martin's and Frasier's bedrooms are down the hall that leads from the left of Frasier's living room, and Daphne's room (formerly Frasier's study) is down the hall that leads from the right of the living room. This can hardly be called "across the hall".

Niles: I'm late for my dysfunctional family seminar.
Frasier: The rest of the show was pretty good. It was a good show, wasn't it.
Roz: Here, your brother called.
Frasier: Roz in the trade we call that avoidance. Don't change the subject. Tell me what you think.
Roz: Did I ever tell you what this little button does?
Frasier: I am not a piece of Lalique. I can handle criticism. How was I today?
Roz: Let's see. You dropped two commercials, you left a total of 28 seconds of dead air, you scrambled the stations call letters, you spilt yoghurt on the control board and you kept referring to Jerry with the identity crisis, as "Jeff".
Frasier: You say my brother called.
Frasier: Ah Dad, Dad, welcome to your new home, you look great.
Martin: Don't B.S. me. I don't look great. I spent Monday on the bathroom floor. You can still see the tile marks on my face!
Daphne: (on Martin's chair) Oh will you look at that, what a comfy chair. It's like I always say: start with the good stuff and replace the rest when you can afford it.
Niles: Why don't I take Dad's things into his new bachelor quarters so you two scoundrels can plan some hi-jinks.
Martin: I think that wife of his is driving him nutso.
Frasier: Yes - we Crane boys sure know how to marry!
Frasier: Perhaps it's better if you leave.
Daphne: Well, all right.
Frasier: We'll contact you. If not by telephone, then through the toaster.
Daphne: I'll just pop into the loo. You do have one, don't you?
Daphne: Oh, I love America!
Niles: I thought you liked my Maris.
Frasier: I do. I like her from a distance. You know, the way you like the sun. Maris is like the sun. Except without the warmth.
Frasier: Dad, what do you think of that view, huh? Hey, that's the Space Needle there.
Martin: Oh, thanks for pointing that out. Being born and raised here, I never would have known.
Frasier: Six months ago, I was living in Boston. My wife had left me, which was very painful. Then she came back to me, which was excruciating. On top of that, my practice had grown stagnant, and my social life consisted of hanging around a bar night after night. You see, I was clinging to a life that wasn't working, and I knew I had to do something, anything. So I ended the marriage once and for all, packed up my things, and moved back here to my hometown of Seattle. Go Seahawks.
Frasier: Niles - I can't thank you enough! I feel this overwhelming urge to hug you!
Niles: Remember what mom always said: A handshake is as good as a hug.
Frasier: The whole idea of getting someone in here was to help ease my burden, not to add to it.
Martin: Did you hear that, Eddie? We're a burden.
Frasier: Dad, you're twisting my words around. I meant burden in its most positive sense.
Martin: As in "Gee, what a lovely burden"?
Frasier: Well, something like that, yes.
Martin: Well, you're not the only one who got screwed here too you know. Two years ago I'm sailing toward retirement and some punk robbing a convenience store puts a bullet in my hip. Next thing you know, I'm trading in my golf clubs for one of these. (holds up his cane) Well, I had plans too and this may come as a shock to you, Sonny Boy, but one of them wasn't living with you!
Niles: ...I heard your show today.
Niles: You know what I think about pop psychiatry.
Frasier: Yes, I know what you think about everything. When was the last time you had an unexpressed thought?
Niles: I'm having one now.
Daphne: And who is this?
Frasier: That is Eddie.
Martin: I call him Eddie Spaghetti.
Daphne: Oh, he likes pasta?
Martin: No, he has worms.
Frasier: You are asking me to give up my study, where I do my reading, my most profound thinking.
Martin: Oh, use the can like the rest of the world!
Roz: Ever heard of Lupe Velez?
Roz: Lupe Velez, the movie star in the '30s. Well, her career hit the skids, so she decided she'd make one final stab at immortality. She figured if she couldn't be remembered for her movies, she'd be remembered for the way she died. And all Lupe wanted was to be remembered. So, she plans this lavish suicide - flowers, candles, silk sheets, white satin gown, full hair and makeup, the works. She takes the overdose of pills, lays on the bed, and imagines how beautiful she's going to look on the front page of tomorrow's newspaper. Unfortunately, the pills don't sit well with the enchilada combo plate she sadly chose as her last meal. She stumbles to the bathroom, trips and goes head-first into the toilet, and that's how they found her.
Frasier: Is there a reason you're telling me this story?
Roz: Yes. Even though things may not happen like we planned, they can work out anyway.
Frasier: Remind me again how it worked for Lupe, last seen with her head in the toilet?
Roz: All she wanted was to be remembered. Will you ever forget that story?

For this episode, James Burrows won both an 1994 Emmy and a 1993 Directors Guild of America Award for Outstanding Directing in a Comedy. In addition, David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee won the 1994 Emmy for Outstanding Writing in a Comedy Series.
To make sure the viewers didn't view Frasier as a family deserter, the writers, under the advice from director James Burrows, made sure that Frasier reiterated that he missed Frederick in this episode.
There were seven actresses that played rejected physical therapists for Martin and had the door closed in their faces. However, the episode was running long, and they left just one.
The second scene in the cafe was not in the original script. It was added during production week.
According to the DVD commentary on this episode by the surviving creators of the show, the physical therapist was supposed to be Hispanic, and Rosie Perez was considered for the role. Lisa Kudrow was considered for the role of Roz. Also, the fact that Niles cleans the chair before he sits was not scripted. James Burrows suggested it.
Kelsey Grammer grew a beard in the Cheers episode "A Diminished Rebecca With A Suspended Cliff" and would keep it for the rest of the series. He was asked to shave it before taping of Frasier began.
