Episode Summary

EDIT
It's re-negotiation time at KACL again. This time Frasier opts for ethics over avarice when he chooses do-gooder agent Ben (whose ideas include naming a bird at the zoo "Frasier Crane") over Bebe.

This is one of my favourite Frasier episodes as we watch the good doctor choose Ben,an agent with a conscience but not much else, over the crafty, yet more experienced,Bebe as KACL begins new contract negotiations. After a series of calamitous PR stunts, initiated by Ben,go awry leaving Frasier open to public humiliation,Bebe confronts him in the men's room of Cafe Nervosa demanding he re-hire her.

Bebe's passionate men's room speech is a riot ('By the time the Hammer is finished with Ben you'll be doing fog reports from Puget Sound...I've been to hell and back for you so often I have frequent flyer miles') but Frasier holds fast. That is until Ben turns up for the meeting dressed in his Boy Scout uniform!

When Maris demands Niles fire yet another marriage counsellor and Niles, following his brother's advice, refuses she decides to renege on her sexual promise leaving the usually calm Niles in a state of frustration. With hilarious results.moreless

    • (Frasier walks into Cafe Nervosa, with a bandage on his head)
      Frasier: Latte, please.
Waitress: Hey, didn't I see your picture in the paper today? There was a big bird, chasing you around a little couch.
      Frasier: Latte, please.
      (waitress leaves)
Niles: Well, I think you have a real case against the maker of those crane sedatives.
Frasier: I just wish they'd named the damned bird after somebody else.
      Niles: Gregory Peck, perhaps.

    • Bebe: We go way back, the Hammer and I. I know where the bodies are buried. (Looks pensive) Usually, that's just a metaphor...

    • (Bebe wants to be Frasier's agent again)
Bebe: Please! I won't be the same Bebe you knew! I'll change! I'll be like Ben... only competent!

    • Frasier: Isn't there a zebra carcass you should be hovering over?
Bebe: You want to see a carcass, chum? Look in the mirror, look what you've let that man do to you. Your face is riddled with bird bites, your name's a punchline, and your career is five minutes from over, and he's only been your agent for three days!

    • Frasier: (to Roz) You're entitled to choose whomever you want to repreent you. Someone who's honest or a woman whose ethics would have raised eyebrows in the court of Caligula.

    • Frasier: It turns out the station manager won't be renegotiating the contracts himself. Apparently he's brought in one of these hired guns stations use to reduce costs. Some fellow nicknamed "The Hammer."
Niles: I'm assuming they call him "The Hammer" because he's tough.
Frasier: No, Niles, because he loves the lyrics of Oscar Hammerstein!

    • Frasier: Are you aware that you are in the men's room?
Bebe: Oh, please, if I paid attention to signs with little pictures on them I'd never get a parking space.

    • (Frasier wants to find an agent with ethics)
Bebe: Happy hunting. If things don't work out, you know my number.
      Frasier: Still 666, is it?!

  • NOTES (1)

    • This episode seems to have been aired out of order. Roz excitedly describes how Bebe earned her a spot on "Clint Webber's show." Clint Webber is not introduced until episode #113 "The Perfect Guy" as a brand new employee of KACL.

  • ALLUSIONS (3)

    • Ben : You just clean up your language, pal. I walked out on that Mamet play, I can walk out on you.

Ben is referring to playwright David Mamet, who is known to use coarse language in his plays. In his most popular work, Glengarry Glen Ross, the f-word is said 138 times!

    • Bebe : Well, well, well, look who's here. It's KACL's Frasier Crane.
      Frasier : And Rosemary's Bebe.

A reference to Rosemary's Baby, the 1968 film about a baby conceived by the devil.

    • Episode Title: The Zoo Story
The episode title is the same as Edward Albee's Zoo Story. However, the two plots bear little similarity.
