  • It's George Takei!!

    8.0
This episode had everything! Mark Hamill, George Takei, and numerous references to comic book characters.

For the first time we are introducef to Fan Boy, and all-around nerd who is fascinated by Freakzoid. And he practically knows more about Freakazoid that Freak does!

The Lawn Gnomes segment--and obvious parody of Gargoyles--was a little weak, although it somehow left you wishing they would have done a follow-up in later episodes.

The episode is capped with Freak teaching us all how to ask in French: "Who cut ze cheez?" Funny!moreless

    • Fan Boy: Where are we?
      Freakazoid: My Freakalair.
Fan Boy: I didn't know you had one of these!
Freakazoid: Well, in this episode, anyway. You know, we're trying a lot of stuff out, seeing what sticks...

    • Freakazoid: Look, it's Mark's Hamill!
Fan Boy: Oh, no! I'm not falling for that again.
Freakazoid: No, really! Look. (forces Fan Boy to stare at the stage where Mark Hamill is signing autographs)
Fan Boy: (in a daze) M-Mark Hamill.
Freakazoid: Why settle for mere sidekickdom when Jedi Knighthood awaits?
Fan Boy: Yes, the Force is strong with this one.

    • Freakazoid (in French): Qui a coupe le fromage?
Freakazoid (translating to English): Who cut the cheese?

    • Freakazoid: Hey Mr. Camera Guy, zip-pan to the next scene.
(Cut to stock footage of a field of windmills in the Netherlands)
Freakazoid: (voice over, annoyed) NO! The OTHER next scene! Am I working alone here?!

    • Fan Boy: Join me, Mark, together we can rule the universe as Fan Boy and son!
Mark Hamill: No, I'll never join you!

    • Freakazoid: How about an autographed photo of Stan Lee?
      Fanboy: Who's Stan Lee?
      Freakazoid: I don't know.

    • Gnome: We stole fire from man and put it in our pockets!
Announcer: That was painful and dumb.

    • Fanboy: And then there's the time you defeated Gargoyle Gal by showing her a mouthful of chewed-up cole slaw!
Freakazoid: I'm sorry, it was tuna salad!

  • NOTES (2)

    • Find Emmitt Nervend: Once in this episode.

    • Frenching with Freakazoid! translations:

      -"Bonjour, classe" - Hello, class
-"Comment allez vous? Bien" - How are you? Good.
-"Et maintenant, le lecon du jour" - And now, today's lesson
-"Qui a coupe le fromage?" - "Who cut the cheese?"
-"Bon. Merci. Au revoir." - Good. Thank you. Good-bye.

  • ALLUSIONS (6)

    • Dot Warner from Animaniacs, another show from Steven Spielberg, makes a brief cameo on TV in And Fan Boy Is His Name after Fan Boy talks about how everyone runs away from him.

    • "I'm giving angels their wings" - That scene with Mike the owner of the "Papya Queen" ringing the cash register bell and saying that line is obviously a parody to the famous movie It's a Wonderful Life(1946).

    • When Freakazoid is drinking away on papaya drinks and talking to Mike, it is a parody of a similar scene in the movie The Lost Weekend(1945).

    • The Lawn Gnomes are a parody of Gargoyles, an animated Disney series that aired around the same time as Freakazoid. Both featured races of creatures who were doomed to only roam at night, while spending the daylight hours as inanimate objects.

    • Fanboy's plan to 'rule the universe as Fanboy and Son', to which Mark Hamill responds, 'No, I'll never join you!', is an almost dirct lift (swap 'fanboy and son', for 'father and son'.) from a dialogue exchange between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker (played by Hamill) in The Empire Strikes Back. An iconic movie moment for Sci-fi fans the world over!!

    • Freakazoid: How about an autographed photo of Stan Lee?
Freakazoid and Fan Boy may not know him, but most comic book fans recognize Stan Lee as one of the most, if not THE most, important people in comic book history. To his credit, he has created some of the most popular characters - including Spider-Man, the X-Men, the Hulk, the Fantastic Four, Daredevil, and countless others. He's also famous for making heroes more human than their larger-than-life predecessors, making comics appeal to a wider audience.
