Not enough viewers; plus, if there was a Freaks and Geeks Season 2, Lindsay, Daniel, Ken, Kim, and Nick would all be working/in college/etc.

I dont know if anyone saw James Franco on Live with regis and Kelly a few weeks ago. They asked him about Freak and Geeks and why it ended it if was so popular and he said it was b/c they were up against who wants to be a millionair (then hosted by Regis).

There is a new cable network (i forget the name) dedicated to only showing tv programs that were cancled too soon. Perhaps this show can make it on. that would be great wouldn't it? Reruns of Freaks and Geeks every day!

Ummm . . . American Idol didn't start until Summer of 2002. The show ended in 2000. It couldn't have had anything to do with American Idol.

I might be wrong, but I'm pretty sure that it was up against Who Wants to be a Millionaire...which I admit I was watching at the time, rather than glorious F+G.

Nah, you're right, it was definitely "Millionaire."

NBC did an awful job creating an audience for this this show. If I recall correctly, the show aired for the most part on Friday night, which is not the best time to air a show which is going to be most popular with the 18-34 demographic, many of whom are going to be out on a Friday night. They began to move it around the schedule a bit, so even though I discovered it from the start due to a rave review of the pilot that I saw in the newspaper, I struggled to keep track of when it would be on.

Witty is indeed correct about Millionaire being a thorn in the side of Freaks. I remember a few instances in which Freaks appeared in the TV listings as being on that night and it was pulled at the last minute. They would stick a rerun episode of some popular show like Law and Order in there instead because they thought an established show could get better ratings against Millionaire.

Because of this, they had unaired episodes left over at the end of the TV season in May. After the summer rerun season started, I remember NBC devoted an entire prime-time evening to running three unaired episodes.

Sorry to ramble on, but I just discovered this site and have been enjoying the show for the first time in seven years on DVD.

No, no....ramble away! It's refreshing, actually, as I'm usually the big rambler. You're right about NBC doing a crap job at promoting Freaks and Geeks. Come to think of it, wasn't there another big hiatus in the season because of baseball or something? I don't know if I'm remembering my facts correctly, but for some reason that just came to mind.

That could be right. NBC doesn't broadcast baseball anymore, but I think they still did back in '99. Playoff games may have pre-empted F+G episodes in October.
