  • Really contrived

I can't even imagine why anyone would like this show? It's full of bad cliches and uses the same plot used for every comedy centered around a typical American family. Yes, I said typical, because while a show centered around an Asian family adjusting would be interesting, that isn't what Fresh off the Boat is about. It's the same story as many comedies based on a family, such as The Middle, but just told worse and with people who are yellow, instead of white, black or brown.

Seriously, it was a great idea, but unfortunately, it was also horribly implemented.moreless
  • Keeps getting funnier

As you get more familiar with the characters, the funnier it gets. They are characters you can relate to - like friends. The show may be written about the kid growing up that life experience, it really is the parents that make the show. We can all relate to the foibles of the people in this show - be they our own or people we care about. I'm worried that people who are ultra "PC" will be afraid to watch the show but it is a great show and it will be a shame if more people don't try it.moreless
  • Awesome show! Unique perspective and THANK YOU for putting it on air.

I've read the book, watched some of Eddie's videos on Vice and recently watched a few of his talks [TedTalk this is such a unique perspective told with authenticity and courage. Thank you to all the people who made this show possible. To think that this is only the second all Asian-American cast to be on air is ludicrous but I am glad to see this one up and running. The show itself is light-hearted and great for families and anyone who has been challenged by adversity growing up. Eddie's story is unique but very relatable. I hope this show is on the air for years to come and that it is a catalyst for other Asian-American shows or simply roles. Highly recommend!moreless
  • Crazy New Age Funny for the Old and Young

ive seen the first 2 episodes about 3 times each because i watch it with other people that have not seen it yet and they all loved it, young and old. keep it coming Fresh Off the Boat. My new favorite show
  • Had me laughing non stop!

Great show. Really relatable even for a non Chinese, like myself. I think a lot of immigrant families will be able to relate to this situation and experiences. I remember in My Big Fat Greek Wedding, little Tula brought in her ethnic food to school and was ostracised for it too, so a lot of it will ring with many people.

Can't wait to see if it keeps up with the quality they set on the first two episodes.moreless

Fresh Off the Boat Series Premiere Review: Stop Being Uppity and Just Laugh

ABC's new Asian-American family sitcom avoids danger by making fun of everyone with a warped sense of humor.
