WWE Smackdown has always had better wrestling than RAW. While it is often criticized, the main complaints come at the overall booking and lack of variety. The show got off to a start the right way with an actual match instead of a 20 minute promo. It was an okay TV squash between MVP and Jimmy Wang Yang. Unfortunately it was followed by a horrible Jeff Hardy promo and beatdown. MVP is a great worker but I don't know if even he can get a good match out of Hardy. Kennedy is getting really annoying. He was a mildly original and entertaining character upon his debut who could have good matches, but now he seems to phone in his performances and just give brutal promos. He should not be a babyface, ever. I never was a big fan of Spanky (The Brian Kendrick) in ROH, the indies or his past run in WWE, but his new character is pretty interesting. His kicks bring that MMA dynamic into wrestling which is entertaining and his cocky attitude will hopefully propel him to main event status.

The Great Khali vs. Jeff Hardy match sucked and did nothing to further either wrestler's push or current storyline. I will admit the chop that sent Hardy to the outside off the top rope was pretty cool. We were then given two pathetic outings in Maria vs. Victoria (which made the TNA Knockouts division look good) and The Big Show vs. Domino.

The show was made however by the outstanding final promo by Edge and Mick Foley. Emotional, hard-hitting and real. It was incredibly performed by both guys and made WWE Summerslam's Hell in a Cell the must watch match of the year.moreless

    • Mick Foley: You bring up some great points, I never was the same after the Cell match with the Undertaker, and there's part of me Edge that would really like to help you, it's just that over the past several months, week in and week out, you've really hurt my, my credibility Edge. Because the one thing I have going for me more than anything else is my word, and my bond with these fans. And for weeks, for months, for years in both the words I've spoken and on the written page, I've said it loud and I've said it long: Edge is the greatest superstar in the WWE. Even when it hasn't been popular to say, the problem Edge is unless our fans have a really, really long memory, they think you suck. Because they see an Edge week in and week out who takes the shortcuts. They see an Edge week in and week out willing play the numbers game, willing to rely on his fianc…no, his wife! And so Edge I say not only will I not help you, I can't help you, but I know the one person who can: Edge. Edge, you need to look inside your heart, your soul and inside your mind and find the Edge who made me say you were the greatest superstar in WWE! Remember the Edge who shattered through the glass ceiling when everyone else said it wouldn't be popular. You need to find that Edge! The Edge who took the letters T L C and made them mean something! The Edge who smelled his own flesh burning and didn't mine because it reminded him of victory! You and I Edge, we engaged in the greatest hardcore matchup in Wrestlemania history just two years ago. And you need to find that Edge, because if you do, then JR & I will sit at Summerslam and we will call, and our fans around the country and around the world will bear witness to what I know can be the greatest, most exciting, innovative and violent matchup in WWE history. You need to find that Edge and bring him to Summerslam, because if that Cell door slams shut and the Undertaker states face to face at this Edge, the white tuxedo wearing Edge, the loofah sponge-bathing Edge, the teeter-totter riding Edge, the down on his knees saying forgive me baby, I can't live I won't live without your love Edge... You bring that Edge to Summerslam and with God as my witness and with a body that remembers every fall 10 years after the date, you bring this Edge and the Undertaker will tear you apart! Am I understood! Am I understood?
Edge: I…I understand. (Edge attacks Mick)

    • MVP: You know, Jeff, I'm actually glad that you're out here, man. 'Cause last week, I tried to pull your coat. I tried to enlighten you and open your eyes up to the risky and reckless behaviour of yours and how it hurts you. You know, it doesn't just hurt you, it hurts your possessions, it hurts the people around you. You know Jeff, you will never ever be WWE Champion. See, because last week, right after I talked to you, you go out and engage in the same risky reckless behaviour and you blow a chance to face Triple H at Summerslam for the WWE title. See, you won't be champion because that's not how a champion operates.

    • Jeff Hardy: (to MVP) You know, last week you got real personal with me, and you know what? I took it like a man. And yet you're still out here talking trash. If you ever mention my home, the fire, or my dog again, I'll prove to you what kinda man I am!

    • Mick Foley: Similar hairstyles being sported by Mr Kennedy and the Gold Standard.
Jim Ross: Very interesting analogy, observation.
Mick Foley: That's why they give me the big money, JR.
