  • Our heroes find themselves looking for a magical cross among urban vampire's and vampire slayers.

This is probably one of my favorite episodes and one of the best in the series. It has an incredibly well written story, which smoothly brings ancient vampires into the modern world -- as a precursor to Buffy The Vampire Slayer -- and manages to offer up a believable tragic love story as well. All of this was pretty amazing, not to mention controversial, for 1980s network television. The horror themes -- while light compared to later shows -- were darker and much more explicit then what was typically seen at the time on network television and this episode was especially noted for its frank sexuality. The underground vampire world has a faint visual allure of being a kind of demonic pansexual anarchy, with forbidden love, female prostitution and bisexuality.

This idea borrows from previous authors such as Ann Rice and would later be seen in Buffy The Vampire Slayer.

It is pretty tame by today's standards, but its 'adult' content is probably why the show was eventually canceled.
