If I'm not mistaken, Rachel was the first, besides the doctor, to know the sex of Emma. Ross didn't want to know before the actual birth.

That's not true. Ross found out from the doctor because he thought that Rachel knew but she didn't and Ross accidentaly let it slip to Rachel. So Ross told Rachel the sex.

Ross thought Rachel was the first (other than the doctor) to know, so he called the doc and told Rachel he knew it was a girl and she gasped. Ross didn't want to know Ben's gender.
