    Ross's speech is a big hit--although for Joey and Rachel, the high point is the use of the term "homo erectus". With nothing else to do while it's raining, Monica and Mike end up in a marathon Ping-Pong match. While Chandler is turned off by Monica's competitive nature, Phoebe is turned on by Mike's. Charlie breaks up with Joey, saying they have nothing in common. When Joey tells Rachel about it, she lets it slip that she has feelings for him. He tells her that they can't do anything about it because of Ross. Meanwhile, Charlie tells Ross that she has feelings for him, but he doesn't want to hurt Joey. Ross and Charlie end up kissing anyway, and when Joey sees them, he goes to Rachel's room and kisses her.

On Chandler's suggestion, David decides to propose to Phoebe, but Monica knows that Phoebe's still in love with Mike, so calls Mike to warn him. Chandler inadvertently erases the only copy of Ross's speech from his computer. Charlie helps him recreate it and in the process they discover they have feelings for one another. With Ross and Charlie busy, Joey and Rachel try to find something to do together. They end up posing as pharmacists in order to get free food and drinks at a pharmaceutical convention. Rachel almost lets it slip to Joey that she has feelings for him. David finally gets around to proposing to Phoebe, but before he actually asks her, Mike shows up in Barbados and proposes first. Phoebe chooses Mike, but says no to his proposal, explaining that she didn't want to get married right away; she only wanted to know that it was at least a possibility for their future. Mike tells her they can have any future together she wants.

    When Monica and Chandler learn they have little chance for natural conception, Chandler suggests a co-worker as an ideal sperm donor. They invite him to dinner, then make him extremely uncomfortable by grilling him about his genetic history. Phoebe enlists Rachel's help in making her look irresistible when attending a party her ex-boyfriend Mike will also be at. Her new look is not wasted, however, when she runs into her old love David who is permanently back from Minsk. Rachel, still very much interested in Joey, finds it difficult to be around him and Charlie. Ross makes every effort to become the keynote speaker at a paleontology convention in Barbados.

    Chandler and Monica have been unsuccessful in conceiving a child so go to a fertility clinic to get checked out. Chandler is already self-conscious about making his contribution, so his condition isn't helped much when his ex-girlfriend Janice shows up. Ross helps Joey with dating advice despite the fact that he still wishes it was him dating Charlie. Against Phoebe's wishes, Rachel uses a free massage coupon from a soulless commercial spa.

    Joey throws a rooftop party for the cast of Days of Our Lives, but doesn't bother telling the gang since they tend to embarrass him by fawning over celebrities. To keep them from being there, he gives them tickets to a one-woman play. Rachel finds out and soon blabs to the rest of the gang and before long, everyone is at the party--with the exception of Chandler, who is at the play alone. Ross meets a gorgeous female colleague named Charlie and becomes immediately smitten. He brings her to the party, but his ego takes a hit when he discovers that in the past she has only dated geniuses and Nobel prize-winners. Rachel has eyes for Joey and Ross has eyes for Charlie; their respective dreams are shattered, however, when Charlie ends up making out with Joey.

    While visiting Joey on the set of Days of Our Lives, Rachel watches him do a very romantic scene. That night, she dreams that she kisses him, and when she awakens, she begins looking at him much differently. Chandler buys a non-refundable weekend getaway for himself and Monica, but when Monica can't get time off at work, Ross goes in her place. Phoebe sullies the image of Monica's restaurant by singing outside to the people waiting to get in.

    Joey is planning to buy tickets in the Powerball lottery, with a grand prize of $300 million. At Rachel's suggestion, the gang gets excited about the idea of contributing $50 each and then splitting their winnings. Ross scoffs at the idea, pointing out the incredible odds against winning. Meanwhile, Rachel is convinced that Emma is about to say her first word. On the night of the big Powerball draw, the gang gathers together and fantasizes about the incredible things they'll do if they win. Ross eventually chips in, although his very practical fantasies elicit yawns from the others. When a squabble begins over "personal" tickets Monica had stashed away, Phoebe steps in to put an end to it with disastrous results. During the festivities, Chandler waits nervously for a call telling him whether he has secured one of three paying positions at his advertising agency.

    Chandler and Ross exchange prank entries on their college website. When Chandler claims that Ross is dead and no one responds, Ross stages his own memorial to give people a chance to grieve. Joey and Emma vie for possession of his prized bedtime penguin-pal, "Hugsy". Phoebe enlists Monica's help in preventing her from getting together with Mike following their breakup.

    Monica and Chandler are financially strapped, so Monica secretly asks Joey for a loan. When Chandler also approaches Joey for a loan, he notices from Joey's check book that he also loaned money to Monica. Joey covers by saying Monica borrowed the money for a boob job. Phoebe and Mike decide that they should live together, but Mike makes it clear that he never wants to marry again. Phoebe agrees to those conditions at first, but ultimately breaks up with him, admitting to herself she'd at least like to know that marriage is a possibility. Rachel has Joey's apartment baby-proofed with the result that Joey is now denied access to all his favorite things.

    Joey has a chance to audition for a Broadway play with his idol Leonard Hayes, but the guy is not crazy about Joey's acting abilities. When Joey has to pee, however, Hayes thinks the resulting "squirminess" is part of Joey's nuanced performance and is very impressed. After she and Ross are almost mugged by an old street friend of hers, Phoebe realizes that she and Ross have an embarrassing--to Ross--link to their pasts. Chandler begins his job with Monica's friend's advertising agency as an intern, but he is the oldest one there. He discovers, however, that his advancing years actually give him an advantage.

    Rachel has asked Phoebe if she knows of any suitable guys and Ross has asked Joey if he knows any girls. Phoebe and Joey can't understand why they don't just get together again. As a way of showing them how bleak the dating scene is and that they were meant for each other, Phoebe and Joey hatch an evil plan to set them up on the worst blinds dates of their lives. While Monica and Chandler are babysitting Emma, Monica realizes that she's ovulating. They would like to take advantage of the situation, but then there's Emma's presence to consider.

    From his apartment, Ross saw Rachel and Gavin kissing at her birthday party and is livid. He decides that if she's going to move on, then so will he. Joey's photographer thinks that he should have his eyebrows waxed for some new headshots. When the wax job gets botched, Chandler proves to have a hidden talent. Phoebe invites Monica to Mike's karaoke piano bar and eventually, Monica decides to make her singing debut. The male customers become her adoring fans when the spotlight hits her and they can see that she is braless. Rachel feels awkward about seeing Gavin again after kissing him, so she calls in sick. Gavin takes her absence personally and comes to visit her. It becomes clear to him that Ross is still a factor in her life. Ross brings home a girl from Central Perk who has issues. Ultimately, he and Rachel have words about their current circumstances and Rachel decides she'd be better off living with Joey again.

    Monica, thinking that Rachel actually likes Gavin, invites him to her birthday party. He proves to be less than the hateful guy Rachel thought when he brings her a beautiful scarf as a gift. Meanwhile, the guys' tongues are hanging out over Emma's new female nanny. Ross and Chandler must now join forces to keep Joey away from her. As it turns out, there was no need, since Ross's nanny already has a girlfriend. Mike discovers to his horror that Phoebe considers the rats and mice that infest her apartment to be pets. As a result of his setting traps for them, he and Phoebe end up as parents to a litter of orphaned rat babies.

  • Rachel visits work and finds out that a guy named Gavin has been "temporarily" assigned to her former position, so becomes desperate to return to work right away for fear they're planning to replace her. Joey has to deal with Phoebe acting like... well, Phoebe, when he gets her a job as an extra on his soap. Monica and Chandler decide that the ideal career for Chandler would be in advertising and she introduces him to a childhood friend who's in the business. The job he's given, however, is as an unpaid intern, so he and Monica have to deal with the fact that it might not be the ideal time to start a family.

    While Chandler is stuck in Tulsa having to work over Christmas and New-Year's, a gorgeous co-worker comes on to him. Meanwhile, a jealous Monica waits back in New York. Clips are shown from past Christmas episodes as well as ones which focus on Chandler's relationship with Monica. Ultimately, Chandler decides that being away from Monica isn't worth working at a job that he hates.

    On Chandler's return from Tulsa, Joey wants them to go to a Knicks game, but Monica has a romantic evening planned. Rather than hurt Joey's feelings, Chandler pretends he has to stay in Tulsa when in fact, he's snuck back home to be with Monica. When Joey hears a man's voice in Monica's apartment, he assumes she's having an affair. While having a girls' night out with Phoebe, Rachel meets a guy and gives him her phone number. Meanwhile, Mike and Ross spend an uncomfortable evening together, taking small-talk to a new level.

    Rachel invites her sister Amy to Thanksgiving at Monica's because Amy's (married) boyfriend cancels their plans. While watching the parade, Joey realizes that he forgot to show up for the Days of Our Lives cast float. He enlists Phoebe's help in learning how to lie convincingly to his boss so he won't get in trouble. Monica reluctantly agrees to use her best china at dinner and obsesses about it for the entire meal--as it turns out, with good reason. Amy, who is self-absorbed and can't remember anybody's correct name, thinks that if Rachel and Ross die, she will then get custody of Emma. Rachel and Ross tell her if they were to die, then Monica and Chandler would get her. Arguments about final custody of Emma ensue until the sisters, much to Joey's delight, are engaged in a cat-fight.

  • Ross makes Emma laugh by singing Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back." Rachel soon joins in. Joey is making good money now and is looking for a real-estate investment. Monica mentions that her ex-boyfriend Richard is selling his old apartment. While he and Chandler are there checking it out, they discover what appears to be a videotape of Richard having sex with Monica. Phoebe and Mike are invited to dinner at his parent's place. While there, his parents encourage Mike to find someone more suitable, but he explains to them that he loves Phoebe.

    Chandler is deeply hurt to learn from Monica that she thinks a guy who works at her restaurant is the funniest guy she's ever met. Joey informs the gang of her faux pas and they go to great lengths to restore Chandler's faith in himself as the comic genius of the group. Rachel is just crazy about the new male nanny she hires for Emma. Ross has trouble relating to a guy who is so gentle, soft-spoken and caring and whose profession is that of a nanny--especially since he's not even gay. Phoebe and Mike decide to exchange apartment keys just as her one-time great love David shows up for a visit.

    The friends are looking forward to Phoebe's birthday dinner as it will be a rare opportunity for them to all be together. Joey and Phoebe arrive at the restaurant first and have to struggle to hold on to a table for six, since there are just the two of them. Before going to dinner, since she's ovulating, Monica plans to sleep with Chandler when he gets home from Tulsa. When she discovers that he's been smoking, they have a fight that delays their plans. Rachel is worried about leaving Emma for the first time. While waiting for his mother to arrive to babysit, Ross inadvertently locks himself and Rachel out of his apartment with Emma inside. When the four of them finally arrive late for dinner, Phoebe is hurt, so when she gets a call from Mike, she leaves. The others decide to follow suit leaving Joey to enjoy all six of their meals--and Phoebe's birthday cake--by himself.

    While talking to Ross, Phoebe realizes she's never been in a long-term relationship. While Ross respects her for her healthy attitude towards dating, it depresses Phoebe. When Mike wonders why Phoebe is upset, Ross explains that it's because she's never been in a serious relationship. When Mike finds it strange that she hasn't, Ross comes to her rescue, inventing a serious relationship she had with a kite designer named "Vikram" who used to date Oprah. Joey talks Monica into visiting Chandler in Tulsa. When she walks in on him, unannounced, she catches him "molesting himself". The fact that there's a documentary on shark attacks on TV causes her to worry that he's into "shark porn". Joey dates a girl he meets in Central Perk. When he enters her apartment, he realizes that he's been there before, yet she doesn't remember sleeping with him--although, to be fair, he has no memory of it either.

    Chandler and Monica break the news to the gang that they're moving to Tulsa. Monica is less than thrilled about it. Meanwhile, Rachel has been calling her pediatrician for every little concern about Emma--even in the middle of the night. Finally, he drops her as client, forcing her and Ross to find a new baby doctor. When Rachel suggests the pediatrician Ross went to as a boy, Ross says that he died. As it turns out, he's still very much alive and still has "Rossie" as a patient. Phoebe and Joey agree to set each other up on a double date. When Joey forgets, he chooses a random guy named Mike in Central Perk. Ironically, Mike and Phoebe end up hitting it off. When trying to get a chef's job in Tulsa, a head-hunter informs Monica that Javu, a four-star restaurant in Manhattan, asked for her, personally. Ultimately, she and Chandler decide that she should take the job and that they will only see each another three days a week.

    Ross still can't get over the fact that Rachel said yes to Joey when she thought he was proposing. Meanwhile, Chandler has been losing sleep worrying about an important divisional meeting at work. Ironically, he finally manages to fall asleep during the meeting and as a result, without knowing what he's been asked, agrees to run their Tulsa office. Rachel can't keep her hands off her adorable newborn baby and wakes her up. Now her problem is trying to get Emma to stop crying. Ultimately, Aunt Monica proves to have a knack for it. Joey invites Ross to punch him in order to feel better about the whole proposal thing. When Ross finally does take a swing at him, Joey ducks and Ross breaks his thumb punching a metal post.

    Rachel still thinks that Joey proposed to her and Joey can't seem to find a moment alone with her to explain that he didn't. Phoebe has been trying to get Ross to propose to Rachel and when Rachel says that she's engaged, Phoebe just assumes that it is to Ross. Monica and Chandler go back to the janitor's storage closet to try to make a baby, but this time they are mortified when Monica's father walks in on them. When talking to Monica about Joey's proposal, Rachel comes to realize that she doesn't really want to marry him. Finally, Rachel, Ross and Joey get together and clear up all the confusion. It occurs to Ross, however, that even though Joey only appeared to be proposing, Rachel did say yes.
