  • Ross leaves for China for a week. Rachel opens her very expensive gift from him and is shocked and Chandler accidently tells her that Ross loves her. She doesent know if she feels the same way untill she decides to pick him up at the airport.moreless

I really loved this episode. In my oppinion it was one of the defineing moments in their relationship. This is the first time it was brought to Rachels attention and she had to decide if she felt the same way about him. The moment when she decides that she does want to take that step was awsome but it feels like your heart is breaking with her when Ross steps out of the terminal with Julie. I have always been a fan of the Ross and Rachel relationship and I am one of the few who liked it better when they were together. I loved the way they brought the fact that Ross was in love with her to Rachel's attention. In my oppinion this was one of the best episodes of this show.moreless
  • One of my favourite seasons of the show.

Joey's new girlfriend wants to go to bed with him, but Joey's participation in a fertility study is preventing this. During Rachel's birthday party, Chandler accidentally lets it slip that Ross is in love with her. Ah great season finale of the show, friends never dissapointed with its last of the season episodes I loved them all it is rare this happens nly this and lost I can think of that are good all the way through. • Rachel finds out.

A start of a very dysfunctional on & off relationship. Well sort of. See what I mean by dysfunctional? Ross gets off a plane with another woman wight when Rachel is about to declare her love for him. I l;love the fantasy scene with Ross standing there in Rachel's mind, telling her she should be with him while she is talking to Carl. I love how Monica gets upset and Ross & Rachel aren't even dating yet. The plot that brought the rating down, was Joey's plot. It should of all been about Ross & Rachel. Not a filler to mess up a perfect finale. That's just my opinion. Can't wait to see what happens next!moreless
  • What a FANTASTIC way to end the season.

At Central Perk, the gang is there. Ross shows baby pictures to the group.

Rachel grabs the pictures & just wants to kiss him all over. Ross is basically drooling over her at this point. Chandler makes a "pfft" noise at Ross' fawning over Rachel.

Chandler walks over to Joey, who is looking at his check. Joey is in need of some money & asks to borrow some from Chandler. Chandler wants to know where his money is going. Joey tells him he is participating in a research program at NYU Med School. Ross overhears and wants to know what kind of research. Joey tells the group it's a fertility study. The group makes fun of his "contributions." But he gets $700 in 2 weeks for his time. Monica & Phoebe are preparing for a barbecue for Rachel's birthday. Joey & Chandler enter the apartment with charcoal.

Phoebe asks Joey how is his relationship with Melanie going. Joey says it's tough because she wants to have sex but he can't for another week, until he is finished with the program.moreless

    • Joey: Well, I'm helping out down at the NYU Med School with some... research.
      Ross: What kind of research?
Joey: Oh, just, ya know... science.
Ross: Science. Yeah, I think I've heard of that.
Joey: (sighing) It's a fertility study.
Monica: Oh, Joey, please tell me you're only donating your time.

    • Joey: (about participating in a fertility study) Alright, come on you guys, it's not that big a deal. Really... I mean, I just go down there every other day and... make my contribution to the project. Hey, hey, but at the end of two weeks, I get seven hundred dollars.
      Ross: Hey.
Phoebe: Wow, you're gonna be making money hand over fist.

    • Chandler: Men are here!
Joey: We make fire! Cook meat!
Chandler: Then put out fire by peeing, no get invited back!

    • Monica: (about Joey's new girlfriend) What does she think of your little science project?
Joey: You think I'm gonna tell a girl I like that I'm also seeing a cup?
      Monica: Man's got a point.
Joey: Well, the tough thing is, she really wants to have sex with me.
      Chandler: Crazy bitch.

    • Joey: If I wanna get the money, I'm not allowed to conduct any personal experiments, if you know what I mean.
Monica: Joey, we always know what you mean.

    • Phoebe: (about Ross bringing luggage) How long did you think this barbecue was gonna last?
      Ross: I'm going to China.
Phoebe: Jeez, you say one thing, and...
      Monica: You're going to China?
Ross: (not wanting to get into details) It's for the museum. Someone found a bone. We want the bone. They don't want us to have the bone. I'm going to try to persuade them to give us the bone. It's a whole big bone thing.

    • Ross: Hey, is Rachel here? Um, I wanted to wish her a happy birthday before I left.
Monica: Oh, no, she's out having drinks with Carl.
      Ross: Oh. Hey, who's Carl?
Monica: You know, that guy she met at the coffeehouse.
      Ross: No.
Phoebe: Oh, well, see, there's this guy she met at the--
      Ross: At the coffeehouse? Right.
Phoebe: So you do know who he is!

    • Ross: I'm going to China.
      Joey: The country?
Ross: No, no, this big pile of dishes in my mom's breakfront.

    • Joey: Move on. Go to China. Eat Chinese food.
Chandler: Of course there, they just call it food.

    • Joey: (to Ross) We want you to be happy. And I may only have a couple beers in me, but... I love you, man.
Chandler: I'm still on my first. I... I just think you're nice.

    • Melanie: (talking about Joey) There is a little child inside this man.
Chandler: Yes, the doctor said if they remove it, he'll die.

    • Monica: (about Ross's gift) I can't believe he did this.
Chandler: Come on, Ross? Remember back in college, when he fell in love with Carol and bought her that ridiculously expensive crystal duck?
Rachel: What did you just say?
Chandler: (panicked) Ahem... um... Crystal duck.
Rachel: No, no, no... the, um, the... "love" part?
      Chandler: (incoherent) F-hah... flennin...
      Rachel: Oh... my God.
Chandler: (rubbing his temples) Oh, no-no-no-no-no...
Joey: That's good, just keep rubbing your head. That'll turn back time.

    • Phoebe: (about Rachel finding out that Ross loves her) This is really, really huge.
      Chandler: No it's not. It's small. It's tiny. It's petite. It's wee.
Phoebe: Nuh-uh. I don't think any of our lives are ever gonna be the same ever again.
Chandler: Okay, is there a mute button on this woman?

    • Monica: (to Rachel about Ross's feelings for her) Did you have any idea?
Rachel: No! None! I mean, my first night in the city, he mentioned something about asking me out, but nothing ever happened, so I just... (to Joey) Well, what else did he say? I mean, does he, like, want to go out with me?
Joey: Well, given that he's desperately in love with you, he probably wouldn't mind getting a cup of coffee or something.

    • Chandler: (about Ross) He's in China!
      Joey: The country...
Monica: No, no, wait. (checking Ross's itinerary) His flight doesn't leave for another forty-five more minutes.
Chandler: What about the time difference?
Monica: From here to the airport?

    • Chandler: Rachel! I love you! Deal with me first!

    • Monica: (to Rachel) Then why the hell are you dumping my brother?

    • Joey: Oh, it was amazing. You know how you always think you're great in bed?
Chandler: The fact that you'd even ask that question shows how little you know me.

    • Joey: Man, oh, man. It was like a ticker-tape parade.
Chandler: Yes, I know. As it happens, my room is very, very close to the parade route.

    • Joey: It's like I'm able to appreciate it on another level!
Chandler: I didn't know you had another level.

    • Monica: Hey, great skirt! Birthday present?
      Rachel: Yeah.
      Monica: Oh, from who?
Rachel: From you. I exchanged the blouse you got me.

  • NOTES (6)

    • Carl: I'm just saying if I see one more picture of Ed Begley Jr. in that stupid electric car, I'm gonna shoot myself.

Ed Begley Jr. is an actor and environmentalist who is best known for his role on the television series St. Elsewhere.

    • Chandler: Hey, is something going on with O.J.?

Chandler was referring to the O.J. Simpson trial which took place during this season. O.J. Simpson, a famous football player, was accused of murdering two people. It is often characterized as being "the Trial of the Century."

    • Ross: Do you know who this Carl is?
Chandler: Um, let's see. Alvin, Simon, Theodore. No.
Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are the main characters of the popular children's show Alvin & the Chipmunks.

    • Melanie: Anyway, that's when me and my friends started this whole fruit basket business. We call ourselves "The Three Basketeers."
Joey: Like the three musketeers, only with fruit.

This is an allusion to the book and film The Three Musketeers.

    • Rachel: This one's from Joey... feels like a book. Thinks it's a book... feels like a book. And... it's a book!
      Phoebe: Oh, it's Dr. Seuss!
Joey: That book got me through some tough times.
Joey buys Rachel Dr. Seuss' book Oh the Places You'll Go. Dr Seuss is a famous children's author who also wrote Cat in the Hat and How The Grinch Stole Christmas. Oh the Places You'll Go has gained popularity as a graduation gift.
