  • Rachel smokes.

This episode was sort of wierd, but I guess I can see Rachel going at any length to save her job, including smoking. I guess that is what out of character this is. I like how Chandler's Needs for smoking come back, reminds me of season one, the good old days. Phoebe taking Rachel's surprise party to a whole new level was hilarious, that shows Monica who's boss. The sad & dry part of the episode is the audition plot. I never really like audition plots, especially when Joey makes such a big deal about it which makes his character sort of boring.moreless
  • "Monica is gonna rue the day that she put me in charge of cups and ice." - Phoebe

    8.5
Phoebe and Monica want to plan a suprise party for Rachel together(even though Chandler's birthday is before hers but of course everyone forgets that). But Monica takes care of everything so she puts Phoebe in charge of cups and ice. But you don't mess with Pheebs and the ending with all the cups was seriously funny.

Rachel is really bummed that her boss and coworker make all the decisions without her because she doesn't smoke. So she starts to smoke.

Ben gets an audition as a kid eating soup and Joey comes with him and tries to get an audition as the father. But he and Ross argue when he has to go up against Ben. This was a funny episode. The best thing was Phoebe's cups thing. Classic Phoebe.moreless

Rachel decides to start smoking in order to avoid missing important meetings with her boss who smokes with smokey mcgee and would then miss an important promotion for not smoking. so she starts to smoke and then makes them all quit but they dont, she does and she will get fired if she smokes again to get her to stop. Meanwhile, Ben gets offered an audition for a soup commercial, and Joey auditions to be Ben's father during the ad but he couldnt be his dad because they looked nothing alike so he tries to sabotage ben so he can win and he subconciously ruined his own audition so ben could get thrugh, but in the end noone got through anyway which is weird..moreless

A great episode, with a really interessting storyline and a good and funny cast. And like all episodes it has it's great wave in the storyline and a good cliff hanger at the end. • Rachel starts smoking so she doesn't miss meetings with her boss. Ben gets offered on a commercial and Joey auditions to.

Good episode! I think the planning Rachel's birthday a month ahead was too long. It should of been like a week or two. It's not that hard to say yum soup and he kept saying yum noodle soup. It's not that hard! It would of been cool if he got the part with Ben. Rachel smokes...WOW! And Chandler likes the smell! I don't like the smell but it's not like I am going to choke. What ever happened to that guy she kissed when she had her interviewer? Rachel keeps changing jobs. First she was a waiter at central perk then at that place where her boss liked Chandler, then that place where she met Joshua and now this place.moreless

  • QUOTES (16)

    • Monica: Yeah, we could have a dinner party and just invite her close friends.
Joey: (Screaming) Ross! We're having a surprise party for Rachel!
      Ross: (From the bathroom) Okay!
      Joey: Done.

    • Chandler: Hey, Ross, if Ben gets this commercial do you think he can get me some free soup?
Ross: Chandler, a can of soup is, like, 60 cents.
Chandler: Yeah, okay, but I have been supporting a 29 year-old Italian for five years.

    • Joey: (About auditioning against Ben) Oh, man. This is going to be kind of weird, huh?
      Ross: Yeah, it is.
Kyle: Yeah, it's going to be weird.
      Ross: No, we're, we're like, best friends. That's, that's why it's weird.
Kyle: Oh, oh. I thought we were just talking.

    • Phoebe: (About her trash bags) Hey, is it okay if I leave this stuff here till Rachel's birthday party?
      Chandler: What's in them?
      Phoebe: Um, cups.
Chandler: Oh, good, because we got Rachel 800 gallons of water.

    • Joey: I mean, who better than to play Ben's father than his godfather?
      Ross: You're not his godfather.
      Joey: What?! Are you kidding?!
Ross: Of couse I am. Okay, let's go, godfather.

    • Joanna: You smoke?
Rachel: Oh, no. My dad's a doctor and he would always tell me just horror stories... about, uh ghosts and goblins... who...totally supported the princess' right to smoke.

    • Monica: I bet it's going to be weird seeing some other actor pretending to be Ben's dad.
      Ross: Yeah.
Chandler: Weirder than seeing his two moms make out?

    • Phoebe: Okay, let's discuss Rachel's birthday. I say we throw her a surprise party this weekend.
Joey: Whoa, but her birthday's not for, like, another month.
Phoebe: Okay, but if we throw her a party on her birthday then it's not a surprise.

    • Rachel: Okay, got to go. Wish me luck.
Chandler: Hey, Rach, now that you're working at Ralph Lauren can you bring me back some of those Polo shirts?
Rachel: Uh, well, you know what? I don't know if I'd feel comfortable stealing on my very first day.
Chandler: Unwilling to steal from work... interesting.
Monica: Besides, if anybody's going to get free stuff it's going to be me.
Rachel: Okay, guys, way to wish me luck.

    • Chandler: Oh, my God. You smoked.
      Rachel: I did not.
Chandler: Yes you did. You look happy and sick-- you smoked!
Rachel: All right, fine, but I had to. I had to do it for my career.
Chandler: I wish I had to smoke for my career.

    • Joey: Hi, Ben. So you want to be an actor, huh? Well, I go to tell you, it's no picnic. There's ton of rejection. No stability. I mean, one day you're Dr. Drake Ramoray. The next day you're eating ketchup right out of the bottle. It's a tough life. I mean, sure, okay you can get up whenever you want, watch T.V. all day, meet tons of women in acting class... Who am I kidding? I can't talk you out of this. It's a great life.

    • Joey: Mmm, soup. I mean noodle soup. I mean soup.
Raymond: (Irritated after Joey messed up his line again) Come on!

    • Joey: Uh-oh.
Casting Director: Is there a problem?
Joey: Well, this is noodle soup and I've been working with tomato. So... but that's okay. No problem, no problem. Mmm, noodle soup. Yeah.
Casting Director: You know, that-that's fine but the line is, "Mmm, soup."
Joey: Oh. What did I say?
      Casting Director: Mmm, noodle soup.
Joey: How's that different? Oh! I see, yeah.

    • Phoebe: Hey, check it out. Um, cup hat, cup banner, cup chandelier and the thing that started it all--the cup!
Chandler: Great job with the cups, Pheebs.
Monica: Why don't you just go out with her?

    • Rachel: (About her surprise party) What?! My birthday is not for another month.
      Monica: That's the surprise.
Rachel: Oh, my God. You guys, this is so great. It's so unexpected. I mean, Chandler's birthday's even before mine.

    • Rachel: Wow! This is so great. Look at all these... cups. This is so weird.
Phoebe: I was in charge of cups.
Rachel: Oh, okay. Not so weird.
