Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • The beginning of Ross and Rachel, but Joey and Chandler steal the show.

In this episode we witness the very beginning of Ross and Rachel, the couple. The storyline focusses on them trying to put together their very first date. We also see Monica falling for a new (or should I say old) man, Richard. The episode is therefore pivotal for everything to come in Friends.

It is also however a tribute to the great writing of the show during this period (undoubtedly its peak). Because as the story telling makes huge forward strides, Joey and Chanlder are the ones who steal the show, and not for the first time. Their subplot sees Joey buying all new furniture for the boys including reclining leather chairs and wide TV. They then decide to break the new equipment in by sitting in the chairs for pretty much as long as they can bare. Every emotion packed scene between Ross and Rachel or Monica and Richard is intertwined with true hilarity provided by our two lounging Friends. A must see.moreless
  • "I can be a waitress. OK watch this. Um, gimme two number ones, 86 the bacon, one Adam and Eve on a raft and rick'em, la-la-la-la-la, la-la-la-la-la."

THis is another great episode! MOnica meets Richard and they share an amazing kiss! Wow would i give anything to be Courtney Cox in the scene! Ross and Rachel have their first date but don't get off to a great start when trying to make out. Ross grabs Rachel's butt and she starts laughing.(that's not too good). Anyway they try to have another date and make it romantic but Ross is paged at work. They end up having sex in one of the exhibts and wake up the next morning with kids looking at them.

Joey and CHandler get a new tv and lazy boy chairs and they don't want to get out of them.moreless
  • The beginning of Monica & Richard.

This couple was okay, I mean it was pretty funny how Richard was 20 years older that her. So its a pretty good couple. Ross & Rachel doing it for the first time was my favorite plot of the episode."Ross, just GRAB MY ASS!" Rachel was so funny! Always laughing when she was making out with Ross, then afterward when thought that he peed himself. That was a definitely funny plot. Joey getting rich and getting a large TV and two new chairs was an also funny plot how they always sent food to Monica's apartment which interrupts Monica & Richard. I love that sort of storyline when two plots tie together! An amazing episode!moreless
  • Ross and Rachel

Friends Season 2 Episode 15 The One Where Ross and Rachel... You Know

Joey and Chandler stay 2 whole days infront of thei big screen TV, wich Joey bought with his Days of Our Luves money, without getting up. Monica meets Richard again and they go on a date. Ross and Rachel finally go on a "real date", but Rachel cant go further because of their friendship.

This episode shows the beginning of Ross and Rachel, and also the beginning of Monica and Richard. This episode was awesome, one of the best in the season. Ross and Rachel finally sleep together in the museum, and a gruop of kids saw them the morning before... that was so funny!moreless
  • Friends

Joey buys a big screen TV and two leather recliners with his newfound money. Monica has a catering job for a friend of her parents, the attractive Dr. Richard Burke. Ross and Rachel attempt to have their first real date, but it's difficult for Rachel to overcome their long friendship. THis was another really really funny episode of friends this time Joey and Chandler are great in it one of my favourite episodes with these two characters Joey and Chandler watching tv none stop was awesome and the end with the fire alarm was funny. Ross and Rachel where good in the episode to and the scene with the load speaker never fails to make me chuckle.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • Continuity: When Ross and Rachel are stargazing in the planetarium, Ross refers to a constellation as being Ursa Major. When Rachel says, "Really?", Ross says, "No idea... could be". Ursa Major, more commonly known as "The Big Dipper", is the most familiar constellation in the night sky. For someone like Ross, who has been interested in every aspect of science since he was a boy and even holds a doctorate, it is highly unlikely that he would have "no idea".

    • Goof: When Phoebe and Monica first enter Richard's apartment, they walk right into his kitchen and set up there for the catering event. During Richard's party, Richard opens one of the doors in the kitchen (the same one the girls entered through) and it opens to the party, not the hallway.
Note: There are two doors in Richard's kitchen. The knobless door behind Monica and Phoebe leads to the party, the other door is the one that the girls entered through.

    • Goof: When Chandler is ordering the pizzas, he tells the recipient to send them to Apartment 20 - Geller/Green. He should know that neither Monica nor Rachel is home. At the time, Monica is catering and Rachel is on her date with Ross.

    • Goof: While Ross is rearranging the exhibit, a mic is briefly visible at the top of the screen.

    • Continuity: In this episode, Rachel says that she didn't want to wear her glasses on their first date. No one ever mentions Rachel's glasses or even contacts ever again. In The One with Joey's Big Break it is also mentioned that Rachel doesn't like to put things in her eyes.

    • Trivia: When Ross and Rachel are in the auditorium, the music heard is by Chris Isaak, who appeared in a previous episode.

  • QUOTES (22)

    • Joey: All right, no peeking. No peeking, no peeking, no peeking.
Chandler: All right, all right, but you better be wearing clothes when I open my eyes.

    • Phoebe: I can't believe two cows made the ultimate sacrifice so you guys could watch TV with your feet up.
Chandler: Well, they were chair-shaped cows. They never would have survived in the wild.

    • Rachel: So, uh, how was your day?
Ross: Oh you know, pretty much the usual, uh, sun shining, birds chirping.
      Rachel: Really? Mine too.
Phoebe: (chiming in) Hey cool, mine too.

    • Richard: Um, I'm sorry, is Monica Geller coming? I was told she was.
Monica: Dr. Burke, it, it's me.
Richard: Monica? My God, you used to be so... I mean you, you, you, you must have lost like... You look great.

    • Chandler: (on the phone) Uh, two larges, extra cheese on both. But listen, don't ring the buzzer for 19, Ring 20, Geller/Greene. They'll let you in, okay? If you buzz our door, there's no tip for you. Okay, thanks. (hangs up phone) Pizza's on the way. I told you we wouldn't have to get up.
Joey: What if we have to pee?
Chandler: (reaching for phone) I'll cancel the sodas.

    • Monica: You've got to get back out there, it's your party.
Richard: But they're so dull. They're all ophthalmologists.
      Monica: You're an ophthalmologist!
Richard: Only because my parents wanted me to be. I wanted to be a sheriff.

    • Phoebe: (about Monica's obvious attraction to Richard) You are so smitten!
      Monica: (red-faced) I am not!
Phoebe: Oh, you are so much the smitten-kitten.

    • Phoebe: (about Richard) Okay, so what, you're just never gonna see him again?
Monica: Not never. I mean, I'm gonna see him tomorrow at my eye appointment.
Phoebe: Didn't you, like, just get your eyes checked?
Monica: Well yeah, but, you know, uh, twenty-seven is a dangerous eye age.

    • Rachel: (kissing Ross while checking to see if Monica's home) Monica!
Ross: It would really help when I'm kissing you if you didn't shout out my sister's name.

    • Rachel: (starting to laugh) I'm sorry. Oh God, I'm sorry, it's just that when you moved your hands down to my butt, it was like, "Whoa, Ross's hands are on my butt!" Sorry.

    • Joey: Wow! Look at that! The car is on fire, yet somehow it's expensive paint job is protected by the Miracle Wax.
Chandler: You got a Cheeto on your face, man.

    • Ross: Hi.
      Chandler & Joey: Hey.
Joey: What are you doing here? Aren't you supposed to be out with Rachel?
Ross: That was fourteen hours ago.

    • Richard: I'm going to look into your eyes now.
      Monica: Really?
Richard: Yeah, that's my job. All right, look up... look down, now open your eyes, now look down. That's right, look into the light. Now look at me... Okay. Your eyes look good. Those are good eyes.

    • Phoebe: You know you should go outside and be with the three-dimensional people.
Joey: No, inside good, outside bad.

    • Ross: Well we just wanted to stop by and, uh, say goodnight.
Chandler, Joey, & Phoebe: (glued to the TV) Goodnight.
Ross: Look at that, they won't even turn their heads.
Rachel: All right you guys, I'm taking off my shirt.
Joey: (uses a dentist's mouth mirror to look behind him) Nah, she's lying.

    • Monica: (about her date) It's Richard Burke.
Ross: Who's Richard Burke? Doc, Doctor Burke? You have a date with Doctor Burke? Why, why, why should that bother me? I, I love that man. He's like a uh, brother to dad.

    • Rachel: You know, Dr. Burke kissed me once.
      Monica: When?
Rachel: When I was, um, seven. I crashed my bike right out in front of his house, and to stop me from crying he kissed me... (points to the tip of her nose) right here.
Phoebe: Oh, you are so lucky.
      Rachel: I know.

    • Ross: (on the phone to the Museum) Whoa, whoa, whoa! Australopithecus isn't supposed to be in that display! No. No. No, no, Homo habilis was erect, Australopithecus was never fully erect.
Chandler: Well, maybe he was nervous.

    • Monica: Oh, you're a grandpa.
Richard: Yeah. Are we nuts here?
Monica: I don't know, maybe. I mean I'm dating a man whose pool I once peed in.
Richard: I didn't need to know that.

    • Rachel: Ah, so what are we looking at?
Ross: Well, uh, you see that, that little cluster of stars next to the big one? That is Ursa Major.
      Rachel: Really?
Ross: I've no idea. Could be.

    • Ross: Listen, I'm sorry I had to work tonight.
Rachel: Oh, that's okay. You were worth the wait. And I don't just mean tonight.
      (Ross and Rachel kiss)
      Ross: You're not laughing.
Rachel: This time it's not so funny.

    • Joey: (in their Barcaloungers watching Beavis and Butthead) Is that the fire alarm?
Chandler: Yeah. (feels the floor) Oh, it's not warm yet. We still have time.
      Joey: Cool.
