Continuity: Ross wants to pick up Monica's old cat toys. Monica had a cat, but in "The One with the List" she's allergic to cat hair. Also in "The One with the Ball" Monica's allergic to Mrs. Whiskerson, even though this cat doesn't have any hair!
Trivia: This is the first episode that you hear Gunther's name. When Rachel is closing up the coffee house, if you listen very close you can hear her say, "Goodnight, Gunther."
Joey: Hey Pheebs.
Phoebe: How come you're watching a rabbi play electric guitar?
Joey: I can't find the remote. (Phoebe turns off the TV) Thank you.
Rachel: Wait, so, you're going?
Ross: Well, okay, I, uh, I have to. I can't deal with this right now. I mean, I've, you know, got a cab. I've got a girlfriend. I'm gonna go get a cat.
Rachel: Okay, okay.
Ross: Cat. (Leaves)
Chandler: No, no, no, no, no, no. (Opens the door for Monica) No. Monica, it's Sunday morning. I'm not running on a Sunday.
Monica: Why not?
Chandler: Because it's Sunday. It's God's day.
Monica: Okay, if you say stop, then we stop.
Chandler: Okay, stop.
Michael: I don't know if Monica told you. but this is the first date I've gone on since my divorce. So, if I seem a little nervous, I am.
Rachel: (Distractedly) How long do cats live?
Michael: (Confused) I'm sorry?
Rachel: Cats, how long do they live figuring you don't... you know, throw them under a bus or something?
Michael: Um, maybe fifteen, sixteen years.
Ross: Oh, Monica, I figured I'd come by tomorrow morning and pick up Fluffy's old cat toy, okay?
Monica: Only if you say his full name.
Ross: (Reluctantly) Can I come over tomorrow and pick up Fluffy Meowington's cat toy.
Monica: You, Bing. Racquetball in fifteen minutes.
Chandler: Joey, be a pal. Lift up my hand and smack her with it.
Chandler: (About Monica "helping" him workout) She's insane; the woman is insane. It's before work, it's after work, it's during work. She's got me doing butt clenches at my desk. And now, they won't bring me my mail anymore.
Joey: When I first met you, know what I said to Chandler? I said, "Excellent butt, great rack."
Phoebe: Really? That's so sweet. I mean, I'm officially offended, but that's so sweet.
Phoebe: Why won't he give it up?
Joey: Maybe he drives his car on the other side of the road, if you know what I mean.
Phoebe: No. What do you mean? He's not British.
Monica: Chandler. I'm unemployed and in dire need of a project. Wanna work out? I can remake you.
Chandler: Oh, you know I would, but that might get in the way of my lying around time.
Everyone: Come on, let her do it!
Chandler: All right. But if we put on spandex and my boobs are bigger than yours, I'm going home.
Phoebe: Your boobs are fine. Look, I never should have said anything. Come here. Come here. (Hugs Chandler, but pretends her hands can't reach all the way around him) Oh, can't make... hands... meet...
Ross: That's that's Julie, Julie, Julie, (Into intercom) Hi Julie!
Julie: Hi honey, I have a cab waiting.
Ross: I'll be right down!
Phoebe: (About Ross kissing Julie outside the window) Ooh, Rachel, don't look.
Rachel: What? (Looks) Come on you guys, I don't care, I have a date tonight.
Joey: Woah, you have a date?
Rachel: Yeah, Monica's setting me up.
Joey: But, what about, Ross and uh...?
Rachel: Oh what, my whole insane jealousy thing? Well, you know, as much fun as that was, I've decided to opt for sanity.
Chandler: So you really okay about all this?
Rachel: Oh yeah, come on. I'm moving on. He can press her up against that window as much as he wants. For all I care, he can throw her through the damn thing.
Rachel: Ross, Hi, it's Rachel. I'm just calling to say that ,um, everything's fine and I'm really happy for you and your cat who, by the way, I think you should name Michael. And, you know, see there I'm thinking of names so obviously, I am over you. I am over you and that, my friend, is what they call closure.
Ross: I was doing great with Julie before I found out about you.
Rachel: Hey, I was doing great before I found out about you. You think it's easy for me to see you with Julie?
Ross: Then you should have said something before I met her.
Rachel: I didn't know then. And how come you never said anything to me.
Ross: There was never a good time.
Rachel: Right, you, you only had a year. We only hung out every night.
Ross: Not, not, not every night. You know, and... and it's not like I didn't try, Rachel, but things got in the way, y'know? Like, like Italian guys or ex-fiances or, or, or Italian guys.
Rachel: Hey, there was one Italian guy, okay, and do you even have a point?
Ross: The point is I... I don't need this right now, okay. It, it's too late, I'm with somebody else, I'm happy. This ship has sailed.
Rachel: Yeah, what are you saying, you just sort of put away feelings or whatever the hell it was you felt for me?
Ross: Hey, I've been doing it since the ninth grade, I've gotten pretty damn good at it.
Ross: How'd your date go?
Rachel: (Hungover) I think there was a restaurant. I know there was wine.
Joey: Let me get this straight. He got you to beg to sleep with him, he got you to say he never has to call you again, and he got you thinking this was a great idea?
Phoebe: Mm... hmm.
Joey: This man is my god!
Monica: (Making Chandler do sit-ups) Come on, give me five more. Five more.
Chandler: (Weakly) No.
Monica: Five more and I'll flash you.
Ross: (To Rachel) What? You're over me? When were you... under me?
International Episode Title:
Czech Republic: Rossovo odhalení (Ross Revelation)
According to an interview on Oprah, that first real kiss between Ross and Rachel is Jennifer Aniston and David Schwimmer's favorite moment on Friends.
During the 2008 Primetime Emmy Awards, the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences honored TV's Most Memorable Moments, determined by an online vote. The kiss between Ross and Rachel was number one.
Arye Gross receives the "And" credit.
The music that is playing when Ross and Rachel kiss was a studio music clip. The producers wanted to use U2's "With or Without You" but didn't have time to arrange for the rights, so they found a studio music clip that sounded "U2-ish". They used the actual U2 song the next episode.
Fritzi Burr, who played the pet shop owner in this episode, also appeared in "The One with the Stoned Guy" where she played Mrs. Tedlock and "The One with Barry and Mindy's Wedding" where she played Mrs. Weinberg.
#2 in "NBC's 6 Favorite Friends Episodes Countdown"
This episode runs 24:50 on DVD (a typical sitcom runs about 22:00). There is another scene where Ross and Julie go to the pet store. Ross is confused about getting a cat with Julie, though it is clearly a metaphor for his situation.
