Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Bruce Willis.

Bruce Willis acted amazingly in this episode. And Rachel & him making out, out of nowhere was hilarious. Well I sort of saw it coming. Ross trying to impress her father was hilarious, with no help of Rachel. At the dinner, Rachel makes Ross look incredibely bad. And she was totally unaware until afterward. That was the funniest part. I just realized that Monica & Chandler fight a lot after Phoebe is writing the book. That was funny too. After all the flashbacks in the last episode. Joey nearly gets fired. Sort of made the last episode. Pointless? But this was good.moreless
  • A great episode featuring a popular guest star.

The best part of the episode is the "double date" that Ross and Elizabeth go on with Elizabeth's dad (Bruce Willis) and Rachel. Ross's assorted past gets exposed--including his marriage to Rachel. Willis portrays a concerned father exceptionally well and his distate for Ross is evident. Pheobe's book about Monica and Chandler and their marriage also proves funny, especially her attempt at changing their names. Joey's sub plot about MAC and C.H.E.E.S.E. was not as funny as the rest of the episode but served as a fair filler. Overall, a very funny and well-written Friends classic, as most of the episodeds are!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (6)

    • Goof: When Rachel says that she'll help Paul find his keys, she closes the magazine, sets it on the table, and stands up. When the camera angle changes, the magazine is suddenly on the couch, and she's already turned around and searching under the couch cushions, despite there being no time for her to have moved that far.

    • Goof: When Ross walks in on Rachel making out with Mr. Stevens, Rachel's skirt is covering her knee. However when the camera angle changes, her leg is suddenly outside of the slit in her skirt.

    • Trivia: Joey and Chandler's favorite movie is Die Hard starring Bruce Willis. Apparently in the Friends universe Bruce Willis and Paul Stevens are not identical.

    • Continuity: In this episode Ross says his son Ben is six years old. Since he was born in "The One with the Birth" in May of 1995, Ben is not quite five.

    • Goof: At the beginning of this episode in Central Perk, Chandler's arm keeps switching from around Monica to folded.

    • Trivia: In this episode we see that Phoebe is left handed.

  • QUOTES (20)

    • Chandler: So are you psyched to fight fake crime with your robot sidekick?
Joey: Am I psyched? The lead in my own TV series?! I've dreamed about this for years! (sitting down, suddenly panicked) Why have I not been preparing?!

    • Phoebe: I'm gonna start writing another book.
Rachel: Because the last one was such a big seller?
Phoebe: Well, if you must know, I have written fourteen books, and as I am the only one who has read them, I can tell you that they have all been very well received.

    • Ross: Hey, what are you guys doing later?
Phoebe: Oh, Rachel and I have appointments to get our hair cut.
Rachel: (confused, to Phoebe) We do?
Phoebe: I want to see what he wants first.

    • Ross: I just found out Elizabeth's dad wants to meet me.
Chandler: Wait, hold the phone... You're not Elizabeth's dad?

    • Ross: (about Elizabeth's dad) Look, c'mon guys... I really want this guy to like me. It would really help me out if you guys could be here to, kinda... make me look good.
      Rachel: Yeah!
Chandler: Of course we'll be here!
      Ross: Thanks.
Monica: We know how tough those parent-teacher conferences can be.

    • Paul: So, Ross... what's your problem?
      Ross: Excuse me?
Paul: Why can't you get a girlfriend your own age?

    • Ross: Alright, a joke--lighten the mood... Two guys walk into a bar, and one of them is Irish...
      Paul: I'm Irish.
Ross: And the Irish guy... wins the joke!

    • Monica: (to Paul, flirtatiously) So, is there a Mrs. Stevens?
      Chandler: There's a Mr. Bing!

    • Paul: Unfortunately, Lizzie's mom passed away shortly after she was born. I raised her by myself.
      Monica & Phoebe: Awww...
Paul: I get that a lot.

    • Monica: (to Paul) It's so weird to see Ross here this time of day, usually he's off at the children's hospital.
      Phoebe: Not looking for dates...

    • Elizabeth: Monica is Ross's sister.
Monica: (enthusiastically) Yeah, he's a great brother!
      Paul: I had a sister...
      Monica & Phoebe: Ohhh...
      Paul: She passed away...
      Monica & Phoebe: Awww!
Paul: Nahhh... you don't have to do that every time.
Chandler: Ross is a great guy! I was roommates with him in college. Ha, funny story... (upon reflection) Your roommate in college died, didn't he?
Paul: A part of him did, yes.

    • Rachel: Oh wait, Mr. Paul... Mr. Paul...
Paul: You can just call me Paul.
Rachel: Oh, okay. Paul. I just wanted to tell you that Ross really is a great guy.
Paul: Well then you should date him. It would save me the trouble of killing him.

    • Rachel: (about kissing Paul) Well, you know, he lost his keys so he was looking for them.
      Ross: In your mouth?!

    • Rachel: So I kissed the guy, what is the big deal?
      Ross: He's my girlfriend's father! It's weird!
Rachel: So? You dated my sister.
      Ross: That was different.
      Rachel: How?
Ross: This is weird for me!

    • Chandler: So, do you think Joey's more charming than me?
Monica: Yeah, that's why I'm sleeping with him on the side.
Chandler: You wish... (reflects on the absurdity of what he just said)
Phoebe: (chuckles and writes in her book) "you wish...".

    • Monica: (Phoebe has been writing in her book) Phoebe, stop writing about us!
Phoebe: I'm not writing about you, I'm writing about... other people.
      Chandler: Who?
      Phoebe: Marsha and... Chester.
Monica: Okay, fine... fine... (picks up a pad and pencil) ...and you know what? I will just write about... "Phyllis"...
      Chandler: Huh...
Monica: (writing) "Phyllis... is sitting in the chair..."
      Chandler: Oooh!
Phoebe: I see what you're doing...
Monica: (writing) "Phyllis... sees what I'm doing..."
      Chandler: Hoo-hoo!
Phoebe: Ooh! I have tasted my own medicine, and it is bitter!

    • Rachel: So, it seemed that my prom date had stood me up. So, Ross, selflessly, offered to take me.
      Elizabeth: What a nice story...
Paul: (considering Rachel's story) ...So, Ross was in college, and decided to jump at the chance to take a young girl to her high school prom...
Rachel: Wow! I definitely did not see that one backfiring.

    • Monica: (as Chandler and Monica enter their apartment) Chandler, we said we would meet at the coffeehouse at six.
      Chandler: We said seven.
      Monica: We said six.
Chandler: The only way that I said "six", would be if I said the sentence, "Let's meet at seven... not at six!"
Monica: Yeah, and if I had said "seven", maybe I would have said something like this... "Wow! My boyfriend is such a wise-ass! Seven!"
Phoebe: (spins around in the barcalounger) Hi!
      Chandler: Oh, my good God!
Phoebe: I know what time you said!
      Chandler: What?!
Phoebe: Well, actually... I know what time "Chester" and "Marsha" said...
      Monica: What time?
Phoebe: Quite an interesting turn of events... Suddenly it's my book to the rescue, huh? (looking through her book) Ooh. Very interesting. Yeah, well, this certainly clears things up.
Chandler: (exasperated) What does it say?!
Phoebe: I will tell you as soon as you thank me for writing my book.
Chandler: Thank you for writing your book... it's, it's a great book... and you are the queen... of everything.
      Phoebe: Thanks! So are you!
Chandler: (aside to Monica) I told you I should not wear this color!
Phoebe(reading from her book) "Monic... Marsha and Chester are planning on seeing a movie Sunday night. Marsha thinks they're supposed to meet at six. Chester thinks it's at seven."
Chandler: (incredulous) So... you knew we were gonna miss the movie?!
      Phoebe: (smugly) That's right!
Monica: Instead of telling us, you decided to write it in your stupid book?!
Phoebe: (writing in her book) "Marsha and Chester are mad at Phyllis..."

    • Rachel: If you think about it, Ross did learn something from each marriage.
Paul: How to make the next one even shorter?

    • Paul: So, Ross... did you kill any of these wives?
Ross: Y'know what? I've had enough of this! I care a great deal about your daughter... and I've treated her with nothing but respect! So, if you've got a problem with me, frankly--
Paul: Are you yelling at me?
      Ross: God... no!

  • NOTES (6)

    • Joey: I thought it was going to be a really cool robot, like the Terminator.
In the 1984 James Cameron movie The Terminator, the title character was a cyborg played by Arnold Schwarzenegger. The Terminator was sent from the future to kill a woman whose son would help defeat the robots after they take over the world.
