Trivia: Beginning with this episode, Chandler is sporting a Van Dyke (beard). He wears it for four consecutive episodes, but it is shaved off for the final episode, "The One at the Beach". Previously, he has only been seen with a Van Dyke in flashback episodes.
Continuity: In "The One With Frank Jr." Rachel tells Phoebe that she's not supposed to bring cups out of Central Perk. However, in "The One With The Baby On The Bus," not only does Phoebe drink from a cup outside of Central Perk, but Rachel brings it out for her. Also, in this episode, Gunther (who was actually the person to tell Rachel that the cups weren't supposed to be brought out of the coffee place) brings out a cup of cocoa for Rachel.
Goof: In the tag scene, Joey and Chandler put the chick in the bath, but it's still able to chirp even though it is supposed to be under water.
Magna Doodle: A drawing of a smiling cartoon face.
Goof: When Joey comes in with the shoebox containing the chick, it looks like a normal box. But when Joey takes the lid off, we can see the chick's entire body. The chick must be elevated by something in the box.
Goof: When Monica is talking to Pete in the diner, look at the floor at Monica's end of the counter at the very beginning of the scene. You can see the mat that is there to protect her when she falls over later.
Goof: When Ross is showing Joey and Chandler his two suits, the brown one is in his right hand and the blue one is in his left. When the camera switches to a long shot, the suits have switched hands.
Joey: (to Chandler) Y'know, with that goatee, you kind of look like Satan.
Ross: I'm gonna be on TV!
Chandler: No way!
Ross: Yeah... They're putting together a panel to talk about these fossils they just found in Peru and The Discovery Channel's gonna film it.
Chandler: Oh, my God! Who's gonna watch that?
Monica: (about Pete) Can you believe he just offered me a restaurant?
Rachel: (facetiously) What a jerk! I'm gonna kick his ass!
Monica: This has been my dream ever since I got my first Easy Bake Oven and opened "Easy Monica's Bakery."
Ross: (entering the apartment wearing a white suit with a little red bow tie) Hey, you guys! Guess what?
Rachel: Got a job on a river boat?
Ross: Y'know what? I didn't wear this suit for a year because you hated it. Well, guess what? You're not my girlfriend anymore, so...
Rachel: Oh, I see... so this suit is making a point.
Rachel: Now that you're on you're own, you're free to look as stupid as you like.
Chandler: So, um, after you put the suggestion in the box, how long did it take for the roller-skating thing to happen?
Phoebe: Um, about three months.
Chandler: Okay... so I guess that's about two weeks before the topless thing kicks in.
Phoebe: Do you guys know anything about chicks?
Chandler: Fowl? No. Women? (thinks) No.
Monica: Okay, here's the thing...
Pete: The thing! Oh, no... I hate the thing. What's the thing?
Rachel: You can either go or help me.
Ross: Okay, I'll go.
Rachel: Okay, but before you go, can you help me?
Chandler: (to Ross and Rachel) Do you guys know how to get a chick out of a VCR?!
Phoebe: Ooh, I have to tell you something...
Phoebe: Well, I can't tell you...
Monica: (confused) Okay... but wouldn't it be easier if you had to tell me something that you could tell me?
Phoebe: Well, sure... in a perfect world...
Ross: (Ross has finished doing Rachel's makeup) Okay, there you go... Good enough for your party? Huh?
Rachel: (looks in the mirror) Sure... Sure, I'll just sit next to the transsexual from purchasing.
Ross: (to Rachel, who doesn't want to change in front of him) Rach', you know, I can see you naked anytime I want.
Ross: All I have to do is close my eyes. See? (he closes his eyes) Woo-hoo!
Rachel: Ross, stop that!
Ross: I'm sorry.
Rachel: C'mon! I don't want you thinking of me like that anymore...
Ross: Uh, sorry. Nothing you can do about it. It's one of my, uh, rights as the ex-boyfriend... (he closes his eyes again) ...Oh, yeah!
Rachel: Stop it! Cut it out! Cut it out!
Ross: Okay, okay. I'm sorry. It will never happen... (closes eyes again) Uh-oh! Wait a minute! Wait, wait. Now there are a hundred of you, and I'm the king!
Monica: (to Phoebe) Does it involve clogs?
Phoebe: Wait, clogs or claws?
Chandler: (to the chick) That's Yasmine Bleeth. She's a different kind of chick.
Rachel: Okay, you'd tell me the truth, right?
Ross: Rach', you can't look fat in an X-ray.
Chandler: (to the duck in the hall) Now you stay out here and you think about what you did!
Ross: (confused by Chandler's admonition) That's a duck...
Chandler: That's a bad duck!
Chandler: (to Ross) How'd the thing go tonight, Ross?
Ross: Oh, it was, nah, well...
Rachel: What thing? What is this thing?
Ross: I was kinda supposed to be on TV tonight for The Discovery Channel.
Rachel: Oh, my God!
Rachel: Ross, why didn't you tell me that?
Ross: Enh... 'cause I knew that if I told you, you'd make me go, and I knew you needed someone to be with you tonight. (ushering her into her apartment) C'mon, c'mon...
Rachel: I cannot believe you.
Rachel: That is the sweetest thing, I just... (they look at each other)
Ross: (breaking the silence) You should get some sleep.
International Episode Titles:
Czech Republic: Kuře a kachna (Chicken and Duck)
Lisa Kudrow was terrified of the duck who joined the cast this season.
This episode runs 23:07 on DVD (a typical sitcom runs about 22:00).
The song Chandler sings to the chick is "Old McDonald Had a Farm," a children's song by Frank C. Brown.
(Ross is wearing a white suit)
Ross: (to Monica) You like it, right?
Monica: Oh, absolutely. I like it even more on you than I did on Colonel Sanders. Ross, Ross! I'm kidding!
Rachel: Yeah, come here!
Monica: What was it you were gonna tell us?
Rachel: Yeah. Oh, was it how you invented the cotton gin?
Colonel Sanders was the founder of the Kentucky Fried Chicken fast-food chain. He was famous for wearing an all white suit in his TV commercials.
Eli Whitney was the inventor of the cotton gin, and although he is never pictured wearing white, this is likely a joke about the "cottony" look of Ross's suit.
Chandler: Anything is better than sitting around here crying all day about Kate.
Joey: (watching Quincy on TV) Hey, I was crying because nobody believed Quincy's theory.
Quincy, M.E. was a United States television series on NBC about Dr. Quincy, a strong-willed Medical Examiner.
Chandler: (about Joey cuddling the chick in his hands) Easy, Lennie...
This is a allusion to the book Of Mice And Men by John Steinbeck in which Lennie was slow and would be overly affectionate to animals and end up crushing them by accident. It was adapted into the 1939 film Of Mice And Men starring Burgess Meredith and Lon Chaney Jr. as Lennie. It was remade in 1992 (Of Mice And Men) starring Gary Sinise with John Malkovich playing the part of Lennie.
