      Brian Leetch was a defensemen for the New York Rangers from 1988 to 2004. He was team captain from 1997 to 2000. Leetch's number 2 was retired on January 24th, 2008.
      Mark Messier was the center for the New York Rangers from 1991 to 1997 and 2000 to 2004. He was team captain from 1991 to 1997 and when he returned to the team he captained from 2000 to 2004. Between the Rangers and his former team, the Edmonton Oilers, Messier has won six Stanley cups. A Hall of Fame inductee, he is second on the all-time career lists for regular season points, playoff points, and regular season games played. He also is the only professional athlete to captain two different teams to championships. Messier's number 11 was retired on January 12th, 2006. The Rangers won the Stanley Cup in 1994, the year this episode aired, for their performance in the 1993-94 season.
