Special Guest Star
Trivia: In this episode we learn once again that the "Friends" aren't very good at apologizing. Phoebe has been mocking Rachel and suggesting that she was lying about making out with Melissa, yet when she ultimately learns that Rachel was telling the truth, she doesn't bother to apologize for ridiculing her. A similar situation occurs in Season 3's "The One with the Screamer": Ross has been trying to convince the others that Rachel's date Tommy screams at people and they all make fun of him, suggesting that he's merely jealous. When they find out in the end that Ross was telling the truth, nothing is said by way of apology or even acknowledgment.
Trivia: After all the fuss over tuxedos and all the trouble Rachel went to, the Batman, James Bond, or for that matter, Diane Keaton tuxedos are not in evidence at the wedding, nor even anything similar. Ross and Chandler end up wearing matching, modern-style soft-shoulder tuxedos with conventional white shirts and long black ties (as opposed to the traditional ruffled, studded, high collar shirts and bowties). Chandler is also wearing a gold vest and both Ross and Chandler have matching gold pocket handkerchiefs. Are these, perhaps, the pre-approved outfits that Monica had picked out in the first place?
Goof: Monica says to Chandler that when he wears the tuxedo pants she can see both "double-O and seven". This suggests that Chandler is heavier than Pierce Brosnan and therefore the pants are too tight. However, when we see Chandler wearing the pants, they are extremely baggy and the pant legs only go down to mid-calf, suggesting that the tuxedo was tailored for a very short, fat person.
Continuity: Although Monica finally convinces Mrs. Tribbiani to come to the wedding, Joey's parents (Robert Costanzo, Brenda Vaccaro) are not there.
Trivia: In "The One with Frank Jr.," Ross puts Winona Ryder on his freebie list. However, in this episode when Winona Ryder appeared as Melissa, she wanted Rachel.
Goof: In the opening scene when Rachel is talking to Melissa, both of their arms constantly change positions in between every shot.
Trivia: Just for the record, Pierce Brosnan was James Bond four times, in Goldeneye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day. Because this episode first aired in 2001, Chandler wouldn't know about Die Another Day (2002). Val Kilmer was Batman once in Batman Forever (1995).
Trivia: Rachel has now officially kissed all five of her friends. She kissed Monica to get the apartment back in "The One with all the Haste". She kissed Ross while they were dating starting in "The One Where Ross Finds Out". She first kisses Joey at New Year's in "The One with all the Resolutions". She gets kissed by Chandler while he is covering up his affair with Monica in "The One with all the Kissing". Now, she has kissed Phoebe.
Monica: (about Rachel and Melissa) They were lovers.
Rachel: No we weren't! It was nothing! It was one night, senior year we went to a party, had a lot of Sangria and y'know, ended up… kissing for a bit.
Ross: So, that's two of my wives.
Chandler: You mean these tuxes have been down the red carpet with people yelling, "Who are you wearing? You look fabulous!"
Rachel: Might I suggest watching a little more ESPN and a little less E!?
Rachel: (pulling out a tuxedo) This one is, uh, Paul O'Neill.
Chandler: Who's that?
Rachel: He plays for the Yankees? (after a moment) Seriously, ESPN. Just once in a while. Have it on in the background.
Rachel: So Joey, I just hooked Ross and Chandler up with some tuxedos for the wedding, do you need one?
Joey: No, I'm performing the ceremony. I'm not wearing a tux.
Rachel: Well, what are you going to wear?
Joey: Multi-colored robes! Oh, and maybe a hat.
Rachel: Huh. Does Monica know about this?
Joey: I don't think so.
Rachel: Can I please be there when you tell her?
Phoebe: Oh, Rach', wait! Do you want to go to a movie tonight?
Rachel: Oh, y'know what? I can't. I have to have dinner with that Melissa girl.
Joey: Can I come?! I won't even talk! You'll just hear the noise from my video camera.
Rachel: (about kissing Melissa) Do you want to hear what really happened, or Joey's lewd version?
Phoebe: (about Rachel claiming to have kissed Melissa) It just seems pretty wild... and you're so... y'know... vanilla.
Rachel: Vanilla?! I am not vanilla! I've done lots of crazy things! I mean... I got drunk and married... in Vegas!
Phoebe: (clarifying) To Ross...
Chandler: Please don't take away my cool thing. Please! Pretty please?!
Ross: "Pretty please?" Not very, uh... Double-0-Seven.
Chandler: Look it's my Wedding Day. Okay? If you were getting married, I'd never do anything to upset you.
Ross: When I got married you slept with my sister.
Chandler: That was pretty Double-0-Seven.
Joey: (about his mother) Let's not forget, this is a woman who has sent you many lasagnas over the years.
Monica: No, she hasn't.
Joey: Is it her fault if some of them didn't make it to you?!
Melissa: Phoebe, were you ever in a sorority?
Phoebe: Of course. Yeah. I was a, um... Thigh Mega Tampon.
Chandler: Ross is Batman.
Monica: Well, he did manage to keep his identity secret for a long time.
Chandler: Batman is so much cooler than James Bond.
Monica: What are you talking about? Double-0-Seven has all those gadgets.
Chandler: Batman has a utility belt!
Monica: Double-0-Seven has a fancy car.
Chandler: Batman has the Batmobile!
Monica: Double-0-Seven gets all the ladies.
Chandler: Batman has Robin! (after an embarrassed silence) We get ESPN, right?
Joey: In Joey Tribbiani, you get a minister... and you get an entertainer. I'm a "ministainer" (rapping) There's no one bettah, there's no one greatah!
Ross: (about their celebrity tuxes) Hey, hey... why don't we put them on? You know, get a picture of Batman and James Bond, together.
Chandler: I would, but mine doesn't fit. The pants are a little tight.
Monica: A little tight? I can see double-O and seven in those things.
Monica: (to Joey) I give up. Whatever you want, you can have it. You want to sing a song? You want to do a dance? You want your mom to stand at the altar and scream racial slurs? I don't care.
International Episode Title:
France: Celui qui fantasmait sur le baiser (The One Who Wanted To Know About The Kiss)
Melissa asks Gunther for a pack of Newport Lights by name, and when he brings them to her, she holds the pack briefly so that it is clearly visible. This event contributes nothing in terms of plot or character development; in fact, we never see or hear of Melissa smoking for the rest of the episode. Although cigarette advertising has been illegal in the US since 1971, this is in all likelihood, product placement, and with a show as popular as Friends was in it's seventh season, likely a very costly one.
This episode runs 23:03 on DVD (a typical sitcom runs about 22:00).
Chandler: Holy double-vented comfort, Batman!
This is a reference to the 1966 television series Batman. Batman's sidekick Robin was known for saying "Holy (insert), Batman!" whenever they encountered something startling.

Rachel: ...Diane Keaton.
Diane Keaton is an Academy Award-winning actress, director, and producer. She is probably best-known for playing the title role in Woody Allen's Oscar-winning 1977 film Annie Hall, where she popularized women wearing men's clothing.

Val Kilmer, an American actor, played Batman in the 1995 film Batman Forever. Batman, the subject of many movies and a television show, is a fictional superhero, first appearing in DC Comics in 1940.
