  • Ah, Ross!!!

    9.5
I love this episode purely for the face that I could watch the part when Ross walks into the open washing machine door and than falls down after he kisses Rachel! That is something that I can watch time and again, literally every time I watch it I laugh so hard!!

    I love it!

Also I love the part where Monica agrees to go out with Joey so he can win his girlfriend back, but tells Monica that her boyfriend is actually his girlfriends brother!

    Love this quote too,

Chandler: So... Saturday night, the big night. Date night. Saturday night, Sa-tur-day night!

    Joey: No plans, huh?

    Chandler: Not a one.

A great episode that I could watch time and time again!moreless

This is the one where Joey tries to make an old girlfriend jealous and tricks Monica into posing as his new girlfriend, Ross teaches Rachel how to do laundry, and Chandler recruits Phoebe to break up with Janice for him. A great episode with a lot of development with Ross and Rachel, Loved the part where Rachel argued with that horrible lady and then kissed Ross, his reaction was very funny. Chandler was funny when he had too much coffee and then he hit Janice by accident and the parts with CHnadler and Ross talking about washing . I give this episode a 9 out of 10moreless
  • Awesome.

    9.5
Ross and Rachel wash their dirty laundry in public. Awesome episode. Ross and Rachel's "first date" type thing. I just love Ross and Rachel, the first time I watched it I was like get together already but I'm glad they haven't yet. (I know I have seen it before but you know.) I love this episode so much. I also love this episode because of Chandler and Phoebe break up together. I love that scene, always has me laughing. I also love the opening scence before the music comes on, it's so funny. A couple of greta lines just in the opening scence never mind the whole episode. I love it.moreless
  • Janice is introduced.

    9.0
This episode was so amazing, Ross & Rachel share their first kiss, that must be uplifting to all of the Ross & Rachel fans! Anyways the episode starts out simple with Rachel learning to do laundry with Ross but when she messes up & that lady kept on bothering her, they work everything out & Ross gets rewarded with a kiss! What must be embarrassing is having your head get hit after you kiss a girl. The subplot Chandler & Phoebe breaking up together & one of my favorite guest stars is introduced, Janice! Chandler has a billion espressos before & when he did, she didn't handle it so well, but when Phoebe did it she magically understood. The C plot with Monica & Joey them going on double dates but what she thinks is that she's on a date with the boyfriend of the girl who Joey wants to get who she is her brother which triggers funny moments, like incest questions?! And finally they both get what they want. An amazing episode.moreless
  • Rachel: Come on! You guys can pee standing up. Chandler: We can? All right, I'm trying that.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (8)

    • Continuity: Since there was a month of time between the first and second episode, it can be assumed that Rachel has been living in the city for a month and half if not longer. Therefore it is odd that she would have not done any laundry nor received a paycheck.

    • Goof: A sign in the laundromat reads "lost cloths" not "lost clothes," though a surprising number of laundromats have the same spelling error.

    • Continuity: Rachel tells Ross that she can't even send back soup. But Rachel sends back a drink in "The One with the Flashback". Chronologically that would have been a year earlier.

    • Trivia: Ross's detergent Überweiss is German for "Super White."

    • Continuity: In this episode, Monica says she sees Ugly Naked Guy laying kitchen tile. It is impossible for Monica to see into his kitchen. As we see in Season 5 when Ross gets that apartment, the kitchen is in the upper right of the screen with a door. And when Phoebe finds out about Chandler and Monica at a straight on shot of the window in that apartment you can't see the kitchen.

    • Continuity: In this episode Monica and Rachel must go to the laundromat because they do not have a laundry room in their building. However, in other episodes Monica and Rachel do have a laundry room, as they often come home with their laundry and are wearing pajamas.

    • Goof: When Janice comes into the coffee shop to talk to Chandler, she brings a shopping bag which she sets by the couch. But when she gets back from the restroom and Phoebe breaks up with her for Chandler, she leaves the coffee shop without getting her bag from in front of the couch.

    • Continuity: Rachel told her friends in the previous episode that she even does her own laundry, whereas this week she confesses to being a "laundry virgin." This is due to the two episodes airing out of production order.

  • QUOTES (20)

    • Monica: So what does this Bob guy look like? is he tall, short...?
      Joey: Yep.

    • Rachel: (About Ross's detergent) What's that?
Ross: Uberweiss. It's new, it's German, it's extra tough.

    • Phoebe: Wait here. Breathe.
(Phoebe goes over to speak to Janice. She talks to her for a few seconds, and then Janice immediately smiles, hugs her, waves to Chandler, and leaves.)
Chandler: How do you do that?
      Phoebe: It's like a gift.
Chandler: We should always always break up together.
      Phoebe: Oh, I'd like that.

    • Chandler: Here's the thing, Janice. You know, I mean, it's like we're different. I'm like the bing, bing, bing. You're like the boom, boom, (Chandler accidentally hits Janice in the eye)... boom.

    • Joey: (Pretending their dates are siblings) Come on, they're close.
Monica: Close? She's got her tongue in his ear.

    • Monica: (Looking out the window) Oh, God help us.
      Joey: What?
Monica: Ugly Naked Guy's laying kitchen tile. Eww!

    • Rachel: Don't you have a laundry room in your building?
Ross: Yes, I do have a laundry room in my building, um, but there's a... rat problem. Apparently they're attracted to the dryer sheets and they're going in fine, but they're coming out all... fluffy.

    • Joey: You look good.
Angela: That's because I'm wearing a dress that accents my boobs.
      Joey: You don't say.

    • Rachel: Am I being like a total laundry spaz? Am I supposed to use like one machine for shirts and another machine for pants?
Ross: Have you never done this before?
Rachel: Well, no, not personally, but I know other people who have. Okay, you caught me. I'm a laundry virgin.
Ross: Don't worry, I'll use the gentle cycle.

    • Chandler: (To Ross) You may want to rethink the dirty underwear. I mean, this is basically the first time she's going to see your underwear, do you really want it to be dirty?

    • Monica: You're breaking up with Tony?
Phoebe: Yeah, he's sweet, but I don't know, it's just not fun anymore. I don't know if it's me, or his hunger strike, or...

    • Monica: Chandler, nobody likes breaking up with someone. You just gotta do it.
Chandler: I know. But it's just so hard, you know. I mean, you're sitting there with her. She has no idea what's happening. Then, you finally get up the courage to do it. There's that awkward moment when you've handed her the note. You try to run out of the restaurant before she's actually finished the note.
Joey: Why do you have to break up with her? Be a man. Just stop calling.

    • Rachel: Come on! You guys can pee standing up.
Chandler: We can? All right, I'm trying that.

    • Phoebe: (About breaking up with Janice) This is nice. We never do things just the two of us.
Chandler: (Sarcastically) Oh yeah, this is great. Maybe next week we could rent a car and go run over some puppies.
Phoebe: No, I don't want to do that!

    • Monica: What's the matter? Why so scrunchie?
Rachel: It's my father. He wants to give me a Mercedes convertible.
Ross: That guy, he burns me up.

    • Rachel: Yeah. Well, it's a Mercedes if I move back home. Oh! It was horrible. He called me young lady.
Chandler: Oh, I hate when my father calls me that.

    • Rachel: Excuse me, we had this cart!
Lady: Yeah, well, I had a 24 inch waist, you lose things.

    • Joey: Monica, I'm tellin' you, this guy is perfect for you.
Monica: Forget it. Not after your cousin who could belch the alphabet.

    • Chandler: So, Saturday night, the big night, date night, Saturday night. Saturday night!
      Joey: No plans, huh?
      Chandler: Not a one.

    • Joey: You know what blows my mind? Women can see breasts any time they want. You just look down and there they are. How you get any work done is beyond me.

  • NOTES (5)

  • ALLUSIONS (4)

    • Ross: Oh-oh, the laundry's done, oh-oh, oh-oh!

Ross's song is a variation on the 1950's Jimmie Rogers hit, "Oh-oh, I'm falling in love again (oh-oh, oh-oh!)."

    • Monica: I just couldn't stop laughing over your Norman Mailer story.

Norman Mailer is an American novelist, journalist, playwright, screenwriter and film director. He is considered an innovator of a genre sometimes called New Journalism. He has been awarded the Pulitzer Prize twice and the National Book Award once.

    • Monica: Something went wrong with Underdog, and they couldn't get his head to inflate.

Underdog was a cartoon series made in the 1960s.

    • Janice: Well, I knew you had the Rockys, and so I figured, you know, you can wear Bullwinkle and Bullwinkle, or you can wear Rocky and Rocky,or, you can mix and match, moose and squirrel. Whatever you want.

This is a reference to the famous cartoon characters in Rocky and Bullwinkle.
