Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • "Does it?"

Ross is so stupid in the season 4 premiere, although Ross & Rachel's breakup opens a lot of plots. Ross was really stupid. He should of just left the letter as it was. He had to ruin it all. By those words. "We were on a break?!" That was pretty funny, I have to say. Phoebe, after realizing that was her real mom, she's mad at he about the reconciles when she realizes they have a lot in common. IN the next episodes, I think Terri should of gotten more airtime. Bonnie is finally out. The jellyfish storyline was hilarious! Great season opener?moreless
  • Ross chooses between Rachel and his bald-headed girlfriend Bonnie.

This episode is so amazing. Rachel convincing Bonnie to shave her head was hilarious. I loved the fight between Ross and Rachel at the end of the episode. It was hilarious when Rachel said that Ross wouldn't be able to sleep at night because of what he is doing, and he replied that he doesn't have to worry about sleep, that he has her letter. I cannot believe Chandler did number one on Monica's jellyfish sting. This episode was very well written by some very creative and talented writers. I loved this episode. This episode, among many others, is a series classic.moreless
  • "Ewwww!! You peed on yourself?!" - Ross

I really love this episode. It started out that we where wondering who ross was gonna choose. Rachel or Bonny. I´m happy he choose rachel (bonny was so annoying). But first he had to read a letter of 18 pages (front and back!). I kinda get it that he falls asleep that´s probally what i would of done that early. But I still think rachel was right over the we where on a break thing. But who cares I love ross anyway.

Also the entire jellyfish incident was funny. Especially the way that chandler tells the story to rachel, phoebe and ross. I learned from this episode that i should avoid jellyfish because i really don´t want my best friend to pee on me. Yeah I don´t think that going to the beach is ever gonna be the same for them.

The sweet part was that phoebe met her real mother and could forgive her for what she has done. And I think that was good because phoebe sr and phoebe jr. look a little like each other. To bad that she´s only in one episode more. Because i liked her.moreless
  • "That's right, I stepped up! She's my friend and she needed help. If I had to, I'd pee on anyone of you."-Joey

Monica is stung by a jellyfish and asks Joey and Chandler to help her. Ross and Rachel almost get back together. Well I think every single episode is brilliant in the forth season of Friends its my favourite season because of this and because it was the year I began to watch this show, I loved this year because of that, well back to the episode and this is probably my favourite series premier if friends, I love the ending where Chandler, Joey and Monica reveal what happened at the beach, it was great, very funny stuff which I will never forget.moreless
  • friends

I would be so embarrassed if someone had to urinate on my leg. But i probably would let it happen if i was in that situation. I can't believe that Phoebes real mom is actuallyy alive. The whole Ross and Rachel thing, where do I start. A great episode though.

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (15)

    • Trivia: When Phoebe greets Ursula at her door, she says, "Hi Ursula", and Ursula responds, "Hey". When Ursula says "Hey", however, you can see that Phoebe is also saying something but it's been removed from the soundtrack. It appears to be, "How've you been". It was obviously removed so that Phoebe's line wouldn't overdub Ursula's when synchronizing the two shots, both of which were of Lisa Kudrow.

    • Goof: You would think that before Monica would endure the embarrassment of having Chandler pee on her, she would have simply transferred some of her own urine to the jellyfish sting using a cupped hand or even Joey's shovel (she had Joey's hole for privacy).

    • Goof: In the shot of Chandler and Monica lying side by side on the beach, the camera pans up from the water and there is only sand and then footprints in the sand around them. When Joey appears, his hole is right at their feet.

    • Continuity: In this episode, Phoebe Sr. tells Phoebe that she was 18 years old when she gave birth to her. In the previous episode, Phoebe and the friends had decided to travel to the beach after Phoebe found a picture of her parents labeled "me, Frank and Phoebe, graduation 1965." Phoebe says that she is 29 years old in this episode which takes place in 1997, making her birth year 1968. It is virtually impossible for her birth mother to have graduated high school in 1965 and to have been 18 in 1968.

    • Trivia: In this episode Monica tells Chandler that she would never go out with him. However Monica and Chandler end up together a year later at the end of Season 4, and they eventually marry in Season 7.

    • Goof: When Ross storms out of Rachel's room during the breakup, several stage lights are visible at the top of the screen when the camera angle switches to the long shot.

    • Goof: The scene at the beginning of the episode shows Rachel putting some kind of lotion on Bonnie's bald head because it "got all sunburned." But the only time Bonnie had been outside since shaving her head was for a midnight dip in the ocean, meaning her head could not have been sunburned.

    • Goof: While on the beach, Joey is sitting in his hole when it's filled with water. But when Monica gets stung by the jellyfish, Joey rushes out of his hole and his swim trunks are completely dry.

    • Goof: Ross's hair is longer than in the Season 3 finale which takes place the very same evening.

    • Phoebe's Song: "Colors"
      ...and fuchsia and mauve.
Those are the 66 colors of my bedroom.

    • Goof: When Chandler, Joey, and Monica tell the jellyfish story, Chandler says sometimes at night he still hears Joey's voice screaming "Do it! Do it!". Joey says he yells it through the wall at night to freak Chandler out, but no nights have passed. They tell the story the same day the jellyfish sting occurred. Notice Rachel, Ross and Phoebe are wearing the same clothes they had on when they left the beach house.

    • Goof: When Monica, Chandler and Joey are re-telling the jellyfish incident, just after Chandler says "and then Joey remembered something," it cuts to a shot of the rest of the gang and you can see that Jennifer Aniston is grinning and gesturing to Matthew Perry. She then gets back into character, turning to listen to Joey, much more serious.

    • Goof: In "The One at the Beach," the Season 3 finale, when Ross is deciding which door to enter, he enters Rachel's room, says "Hi", then closes the door. However, at the start of this episode, Ross enters, says "Hi" and before the door is closed, Bonnie leaves through it. The two scenes are supposed to occur in the exact same time frame.

    • Goof: Even though the first scene between Phoebe and her birth mother is supposed to be a continuation of "The One at the Beach," the Season 3 finale, Phoebe Sr.'s hair (Teri Garr) is significantly different than at the end of Season 3.

    • Trivia: The idea of peeing on a jellyfish sting to remove the pain is an urban myth and does not affect the pain.

  • QUOTES (17)

    • (Rachel has applied lotion to Bonnie's bald, sunburned head)
      : Thanks a million.
      Rachel: You're welcome a million.
Bonnie: (to Ross) Come on, smell it.
Ross: (smells her head) Mmmm, minty.

    • Phoebe Sr: I was eighteen years old. I mean, you remember what it's like to be eighteen years old?
Phoebe: Yeah. Let's see, my Mom had killed herself, and my Dad had run off, and I was living in a Gremlin with a guy named Cindy who talked to his hand.

    • Phoebe: You walked out on me and I'm gonna do the same thing to you.
      Phoebe Sr.: Wait.
Phoebe: I don't ever wanna see you again. (Phoebe walks out, then walks back in with her hand over her eyes) Where's my purse?

    • Joey: Hey, what if you found out your mom wasn't actually your mom, and your new mom was really hot?!
      Chandler: But it's your mom.
Joey: No. I'm talking about your mom.

    • Chandler: Alright, there's a nuclear holocaust... I'm the last man on Earth. Would you go out with me?
      Monica: Enh...
      Chandler: I've got canned goods!

    • Monica: Damn the jellyfish. Damn all the jellyfish!

    • Ross: We were on a break!
Chandler: Oh my God! If you say that one more time, I'm going to break up with you!

    • Ross: What the hell happened on that beach?
Joey: That's between us and the sea, Ross!

    • Monica: (having elected to tell of the jellyfish incident) Alright! Alright. I got stung. Stung bad! I couldn't stand. I couldn't walk.
Chandler: We were two miles from the house. Scared and alone. We didn't think we could make it.
Monica: I was in too much pain...
Joey: ...And I was tired from digging the huge hole!
Chandler: And then Joey remembered something...
Joey: I'd seen this thing on The Discovery Channel...
Ross: Wait a minute! I saw that! On The Discovery Channel, yeah! About jellyfish and how if you... Ewwww! You peed on yourself?!
      Phoebe and Rachel: Ewwww!
Monica: You can't say that! You don't know! I mean I thought I was gonna pass out from the pain! Anyway I, I tried, but I, I couldn't... bend that way.

    • Joey: (to the gang, about Monica) That's right, I stepped up! She's my friend and she needed help. If it had to, I'd pee on anyone of you!

    • Chandler: (wails loudly into his hands) Joey kept screaming at me, "Do it now! Do it! Do it! Do it now!" Sometimes late at night I can still hear the screaming.
Joey: (laughs) That's 'cause sometimes I just do it through my wall to freak you out.

    • Ross: It took two people to break up this relationship.
Rachel: Yeah, you and that girl from the copy place--which yesterday you took full responsibility for.
Ross: I didn't know what I was taking responsibility for, okay? I didn't finish the whole letter.
      Rachel: What?
      Ross:I fell asleep.
      Rachel: You fell asleep?!
Ross: It was five-thirty in the morning and you had rambled on for eighteen pages... (walks towards door, stops and turns around) Front and back!

    • Ross: Oh, and by the way, Y-O-U-apostrophe-R-E means "you are" and Y-O-U-R means "your"!

    • Rachel: Ya know I can't believe I even thought about getting back together again! We are so over!
Ross: (makes supressed crying noises) Fine by me!

    • Rachel: I just feel bad about all that sleep you're gonna miss, wishing you were with me!
Ross: Oh, don't you worry about me falling asleep... I still have your letter!

    • Rachel: (to Ross as he's leaving) And hey, just so you know... it's not that common... it doesn't happen to every guy... and it is a big deal!
      Chandler: I knew it!!

    • Monica: (sets down some cards) Gin.
Chandler: We were playing Gin? Y'know, if we were a couple, we could play this game naked.
      Monica: Will you stop!
      Chandler: Okay. Alright.
Monica: Okay, alright, I think you're great... I think you're sweet, and you're smart, and I love you. But you will always be the guy who peed on me.
