Episode Summary

Monica and Chandler plan a Romantic getaway to New Jersey in order to have an intimate weekend away from their friends. Meanwhile, Ross prepares himself to tell Rachel that he can't see her anymore.

Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Ross says goodbye to Rachel.

Well this episode wasn't as satisfying as expected from a hell of a cliffhanger in the last episode. I really hate Emily & I hope that Ross & her get a divorce sooon because she is really tiring. Anyways Rachel's reaction to Ross' decision was heart breaking, he should of told her in the beginning not 13 minutes in to the episode. In the B plot, Monica & Chandler have an Atlantic City getaway that does not go as plannned as Chandler is a jerk, and Monica keeps on switching rooms. Jeez, you think the gang would find out already. They are so obvious.moreless
  • "We're in a relationship?" - Chandler

This was a very cute episode but also a little sad. Chandler and Monica are tired of sneaking around so they decide to go away for the weekend to Atlantic City. But when they get there Monica gets all obsessive about having the perfect room so they have their first fight. After that Chandler thinks it's over but Monica thinks that's crazy and explains to him that this is how it works in an adult relationship. Joey also finds out about them which was really funny. I love it when he yells: "IN LONDON!!!".

The sad part of this episode was that Ross had to tell Rachel that he could never see her again. I'm not really liking his second wife Emily.moreless
  • A great episode for Monica and Chandler.

I have always been a fan of this episode. Monica and Chandler go on their first vacation together and it is disastrous. They have their first fight over Chandler wanting to watch a police chase over spend time with Monica. This sets up some really funny material as they are making fun of each other throughout the whole episode. Also, at the beginning of the episode there is a scene where Monica is sneaking into Chandler’s apartment and Joey walks in on them so they tell him that the time is 9 AM. He actually believes them, which in my opinion is classic Joey. That is what made his character so funny, loveable and popular. Overall, the Monica and Chandler aspect of this episode is solid, but the rest is average.moreless

A great episode, with a really interessting storyline and a good and funny cast. And like all episodes it has it's great wave in the storyline and a good cliff hanger at the end. Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (9)

    • Continuity: When Monica writes Chandler a check we see her hand it to him and when Joey opens his door you can see the check is back in her hand.

    • Continuity: In this episode, the toilet in Chandler and Joey's apartment is just inside the bathroom door (where Joey is sleeping). In all other episodes, it is off to the right, nowhere near the door.

    • Goof: When Rachel and Phoebe are talking in Central Perk, the jacket and purse behind Rachel on the couch keep moving.

    • Trivia: This is the first episode to mention that Ross and Chandler were roommates in college.

    • Goof: After Chandler's hotel calls about the eyelash curler, Joey asks Chandler if he was on a gay cruise. But Joey knew that it was a hotel, not a cruise line, that called.
Note: A "cruise" is also slang for going out looking for encounters, not necessarily on a ship.

    • Goof: When the gang is in Central Perk discussing Kip, Rachel comes in and sets her purse on top of Monica's purse on the table. Soon after, Rachel's purse disappears.

    • Continuity: The gang says that Chandler's old roommate Kip was phased out after he and Monica broke up. But in "The One with the Dozen Lasagnas" Chandler said that Kip ran off and got married.

    • Trivia: When Chandler turns on the TV in the last room he and Monica move to, and there is "Regularly scheduled programming", we hear the title theme of ER.

    • Continuity: In this episode Rachel says that she has a pet turtle. But in "The One with all the Jealousy" Rachel says that turtles scare her.

  • QUOTES (22)

    • Joey: You? and you?!
Monica: Yes, but you can't tell anyone. No one knows.
      Joey: How?! When?!
      Chandler: It happened in London.
      Joey: In London?!
Chandler: Shh! The reason we didn't tell anyone was because we didn't want to make a big deal out of it.
Joey: But it is a big deal! I have to tell someone!
      Chandler: You can't.
Monica: Please, now we know this is hard.
      Joey: It is. It hurts.

    • Chandler: So, that weekend kind of sucked, huh?
      Monica: Yeah, it did.
Chandler: So, I guess this is over.
      Monica: What?
Chandler: Well, you and me, it had to end sometime.
      Monica: Why, exactly?
Chandler: Because of the weekend, we had a fight.
Monica: Chandler, that's crazy. If you give up every time you have a fight with someone, you'd never be with anyone longer than... Oooh!
      Chandler: So, this isn't over?
Monica: You are so cute. No, no, it was a fight, you deal with it and move on. It's nothing to freak out about.

    • Ross: Look, I'm the one who made the choice. I'm the one who's making things change. So, I should be the one to step back.
      Rachel: Oh, Ross.
Ross: No, no, it's okay, really. There are plenty of people who just see their sisters at Thanksgiving or just see their college roommates at reunions or just see Joey at Burger King. So, is that better?
Rachel: No, it's not better. I still don't get to see you.
Ross: Well, what would you do, Rach? If you were me, what would you do?
Rachel: Well, for starters, I would've said the right name at my wedding.

    • Rachel: You gotta come with me.
      Phoebe: Come where?
Rachel: Where ever I go. Come on, you and me, we'll start a new group. We're the best ones.
Phoebe: Okay. But try to get Joey, too.

    • Rachel: Oh, it was just a matter of time before someone had to leave the group, I just assumed Phoebe would be the one to go.
      Phoebe: Ah!
Rachel: Honey, come on, you live far away. You're not related, you lift right out.

    • Ross: You know how you told me I should do whatever it takes to fix my marriage?
Rachel: Yeah. I told you to give Emily whatever she wants.
Ross: And while that was good advice you should know that what she wants ...
      Rachel: Yeah?
Ross: Is for me not to see you anymore.
Rachel: Well, that's crazy. You can't do that. What are you gonna tell her? (Ross is silent) Oh my God, you've already agreed to this, haven't you?
Ross: It's awful, I know. It's terrible but I have to do this if I want my marriage to work and I do. I have to make this marriage work. I have to. ... But the good news is that we can still see each other til she gets here.

    • Joey: Well, you remember when they got into that big fight and we were stuck in here all night with no food or anything? Well, when Ross said Rachel I figured it was gonna happen again, y'know, so I hid this in there.
Monica: Ooh, candy bars, crossword puzzles...

    • Joey: What time is it?
      Chandler: Uh, nine.
      Joey: But it's dark out.
Monica: Well, that's because you always sleep til noon, silly. This is what nine looks like.

    • Monica: Okay, I'd like to know how much the room was because I'd like to pay my half.
      Chandler: Okay, fine, $300.
      Monica: 300 dollars?!
Chandler: Yeah, just think of it as $25 per room!

    • Monica: Chandler stole a twenty from my purse!
Joey: Nooooo! Ya know what? Now that I think about it, I constantly find myself without twenties and you always have lots.

    • Ross: You should have seen the look on her face. I don't want Rachel to hate me! I don't know what to do.
      Joey: You want my advice?
      Ross: Yes! Please!
Joey: You're not gonna like it.
      Ross: That's okay.
Joey: You got married to fast.
      Ross: That's not advice!
      Joey: I told ya.

    • Joey: Hey, you're not Kip!
Rachel: Do you even know who Kip is?
Joey: Who cares? You're Rachel! (to Chandler) Who's Kip?

    • Monica: Oh, welcome to an adult relationship!
      Chandler: We're in a relationship?
      Monica: I'm afraid so.
      Chandler: Okay.

    • Monica: Guys, rules are good! Rules help control the fun!

    • Monica: We're supposed to, uh, be spending a romantic weekend together. What is the matter with you?
Chandler: I just want to watch a little television. What is the big deal? Jeez, relax mom.
      Monica: What did you say?
Chandler: I said, "Jeez, relax Monnn."

    • Monica: Look, these clowns are trying to take us for a ride and I'm not gonna let 'em! And we're not a couple of suckers!
      Chandler: I hear ya, Mugsy!

    • Chandler: (jumping on the hotel bed) I can't believe it! We're here!
Monica: Ooh, chocolates on the pillows! I love that!
Chandler: Oh, you should live with Joey. Rolos everywhere.

    • Phoebe: (to Chandler, who has his ear pressed against the door) Can you hear anything?
Chandler: Oh yes, somebody just said, "Can you hear anything?"

    • Joey: The hotel you stayed at called. Apparently someone left an eyelash-curler.
      Chandler: I... guess that's mine.
Joey: Oh, I thought it was from some girl you hooked up with.
Chandler: Yeah... that would have made more sense.

    • Ross: What are you doing?
      Rachel: I'm storming out!
Ross: But this is your apartment.
Rachel: Yeah, well, that's how mad I am!

    • Chandler: Condoms?
Joey: You don't know how long we might be stuck in here! We may have to repopulate the Earth!
Chandler: And condoms are the way to do that?

    • Joey: (to Chandler) You know, I feel like I don't even know you anymore, man! Look, I'm just going to ask you this one time, and whatever you say I'll believe you. Were you or were you not on a gay cruise?
