Who was the Episode MVP ?

  • Bonnie is introduced.

Well the girl who drives a wedge between Ross & Rachel in the future, is introduced. It is all Phoebe's fault. Rachel trying to set Ross up with a bald girl reveals that Rachel has a problem with him being with a beautiful girl, which means she is jealous! Definitely foreshadows drama in the finale. That was probably the only interesting plot. Finally, the Pete arc ends! He probably dies afterward. Monica & Pete breakup, because of the UFC, the cliffhanger from the last episode. Robin Williams guest stars! I think the first time, someone else sits with the Friends. An okay episode.moreless
  • very boring!!

Pete goes in for the ultimate fighting champion competition and loses many times and ends up breaking up with Monica after he is nearly killed mean while Rachel becomes jealous because Phoebe sets Ross up on a date with a girl she said used to be bald but turns out shes not any more and Ross really likes her. Mean while at Chandlers job his new boss keeps slapping his bum every time he makes a joke or does some thing good he becomes a teachers pet and doesnt like and asks for the avice of his friends as to what he should do.moreless
  • The Ultimate Fighting Champion? I think not.

Monica's rich boyfriend, who she has finally fallen for, is determined to live out his dream to become the Ultimate Fighting Champion. This is the real deal. None of the fake stuff, which Monica soon learns. She is definately not too happy about it and seriously has her doubts. She does, however, watch him fight a guy for the first time in his life. The guy kills him...well, not literally, but close enough. He definately got the beating of his life and ended up in the hospital with several casts and broken bones. But he still wants to become the Ultimate Fighting Champion, and Monica just can't live with watching him get himself hurt night after night. She does the only thing she can and breaks up with him. On a later fight the friends watched on TV, he got pummeled again. Maybe that put an end to his fighting career.moreless
  • This episode will have you laughing a LOT.

Pete wants to be in a fighting championship, but Monica feels as if it is her duty to stop him before he gets seriously injured. Then, she starts having second thoughts about their relationship.

Chandler, on the other hand, finds out that his new boss likes to slap the butts of people he likes. And, lucky for Chandler, he's one of them! Now he has to find a way to stop it all.

Ross is being set-up on a date by Phoebe with a girl who used to be, uh, bald. I wonder how THAT will work out...

Overall, I absolutely enjoyed this episode... Especially because of Chandler! He's hilarious!moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

  • TRIVIA (8)

    • Trivia: Chandler asks if there is a town somewhere called Sample so that when you enter it the sign says "You're in Sample". There are four towns called Sample in the United States, located in Colorado, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and Texas.

    • Goof: Ross bought an Ultimate Fighting Combo, a large pop and popcorn, at the fight. However, after Ross and Monica sit down, they are never seen again. Furthermore, when Monica talks to Pete at the ring, you can see that the combo was not set on the floor.

    • Goof: When Chandler's boss is slapping all the guys on the butt, on the table closest to the camera there is a notepad with a pen on it. When the guy comes back in to get his briefcase, the pen is gone.

    • Factual Error: In the opening of the episode, Monica lists a number of tactics as legal in the UFC due to a lack of rules. Included are hair pulling and biting, both of which are in fact illegal in UFC matches. While biting has always been illegal in UFC matches, hair pulling was in fact legal in 1997, the date this show aired.

    • Factual Error: In 1997, the time the episode took place, New York had banned the UFC and MMA fights from taking place.

    • Goof: When Robin Williams and Billy Crystal are getting up and leaving Central Perk, Monica's purse goes from on her lap, to on her shoulder, and back to her lap.

    • Goof: In the scene with Robin Williams and Billy Crystal, there is a shot of Rachel with her hair is hanging straight down. When the camera angle changes there is a section of hair behind her ear. In the shot after that it is hanging straight, and is then behind her ears again.

    • Trivia: When the gang is in the coffee house, after the opening credits, Chandler is drinking a Yoohoo, which is seen in many episodes. When you look at the bottle, Yoohoo is spelled Yooh.

  • QUOTES (13)

    • Rachel: (looking into Central Perk) Oh, my God! Phoebe, look! It's Ross and that girl!
Phoebe: (pulling Rachel away from the window) Rachel, look at that! It's a line of ants! They're working as a team!

    • Monica: (about fighting) You're not gonna keep going, are you?
Pete: Well, let me ask you a question. Am I the Ultimate Fighting Champion?
      Monica: Well, no. But...
Pete: Well, I'm not gonna stop until I'm the Ultimate Fighting Champion.
Monica: That guy stood on your neck until you passed out!
Pete: Let me tell you a story. When I set out to create Moss 865, do you think it just happened overnight? No. There was Moss 1, that burnt down my Dad's garage, there was Moss 2 that would only schedule appointments in January, and 862 others that I learned from, just like I learned from this fight, never to let a guy stand on my neck.
Monica: You didn't know that already?

    • Ross: All right, so Chandler, from now on, don't give your boss a chance to get you. You know, just, don't turn your back to him.
Joey: Yeah, or, you could teach him a lesson, you know? What you could do is you could rub something that smells really bad on your butt, right? Then, when he goes to smack you, his hand will smell. Now, what could you rub on your butt that would smell bad?
Chandler: What if Joey was president?

    • Rachel: So, come on, what was the big news Pete wanted to tell you Mon? Or should I say Mrs. Monica Becker?
Phoebe: No, no, no, oh, keep your name, don't take his name.
Monica: He didn't ask me to marry him.
      All: Oh.
Phoebe: Well then definitely don't take his name.

    • (Joey demonstrates "fish hooking" to Monica by hooking his finger in Ross's mouth)
Ross: (afterwards) What is that taste?
Joey: What? My hands are totally clean, I just gave the duck a bath.

    • Boss: And remember, there is no "I" in team.
Chandler: Yes, but there's two in "martini", so everybody back to my office!

    • Chandler: (while watching Pete's fight on TV) Run! Run you crazy, rich freak.

    • Chandler: I don't want to be the guy who has a problem with his boss slapping his bottom.
Monica: I gotta tell ya, I think it's okay to be that guy.

    • Rachel: (on the subject of congratulatory butt-slapping) I don't understand guys. I'd never congratulate Monica on a great stew by grabbing her boob.
Chandler: Yeah, for a really great stew you just stick your head in between them.
Monica: Can we please go eat?
Ross: Yeah, what are we getting?
      Monica: Anything but stew.

    • Rachel: (about Bonnie) You said she was bald!
Phoebe: Yes, she was, she's not now.
Rachel: How could you not tell me she has hair?
Phoebe: I don't know, I hardly ever say that about people!

    • Monica: You are the worst ultimate fighter ever!
Pete: You know, I have a torn rotator cuff, a hairline fracture in my right forearm and a severely bruised Adam's apple, but that really hurt.

    • Phoebe: Well, maybe it won't work out. Maybe Ross won't like her personality.
Rachel: Why, does she have a bad personality?
Phoebe: Oh no, Bonnie's the best!

    • Chandler: Have you ever wondered if there's a town in Missouri or something named Sample? And then as you're driving to the town there's like, a sign that says, "You're in Sample?"

  • NOTES (9)

    • Pete: I'm telling you, the day will come when children will argue over who will win a fight, me or Superman. Now, I'm not saying I could beat Superman, but, ya know, kids are stupid.
Superman is a comic book superhero, originally created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster, published by DC Comics. It was adapted into the 1978 blockbuster Superman.

    • Rachel: Wow that was depressing. I think I just bought a soft pretzel from one of the kids in Fame.

Fame was a 1980's TV series and film about a New York high school for performing arts.

    • (Ross is making dinner reservations on the phone)
Ross: That's right. Ryder. Winona Ryder for six. Thank you. (to the gang) Yeah. We have the reservation.
Winona Ryder is an Academy Award-nominated and Golden Globe-winning American actress. She will later appear in "The One with Rachel's Big Kiss" as an old college friend of Rachel's.
