Season 5 Episode 6

The One with the Yeti

Aired Thursday 8:00 PM Nov 05, 1998 on NBC

  • Trivia

    • Trivia: When entering the basement storage room, Rachel says, "Storage rooms give me the creeps". To add to the creepy atmosphere, there is a grinning clown doll just behind her when she says it.

    • Continuity: Phoebe checks herself wearing the fur coat in a mirror just to the left of the girls' bathroom door. There is normally a 3D relief there of a woman with a Great Dane. The mirror reappears in "The One with Joey's Big Break" later this season when Rachel uses it to try putting eye-drops in her eye, but again it is replaced by the 3D relief in subsequent episodes. In all likelihood, the mirror would prove to be a problem as a regular feature, since possible reflections of cameras and crew, etc., would have to be dealt with. It can be noted that Monica's bathroom mirror, visible when the bathroom door is open, is often "fogged" so that it doesn't reflect anything.

    • Continuity: When Gunther refuses to allow Ross to put up a flyer in Central Perk, Ross says, "How come? Everybody else does". Sure enough, there are hand-drawn flyers all over the post behind the couch. In no other episode do we see flyers on the post.

    • Goof: When Ross is talking to Emily on the phone, it can be seen that Emily wears a diamond ring. Ross stops his conversation with Emily to talk with Joey. However, when he gets back to Emily, on the second shot of hers, there is no diamond ring on her finger. The next shot, she has the ring again.

    • Goof: Danny leaves his mail slot open.

    • Goof: When Chandler and Monica are kissing on the chair, Chandler's hand is by his side. When the camera angle changes, his hand is on Monica's leg.

    • Goof: When Ross is moving out of his apartment, the phone on the charger keeps disappearing and reappearing.

    • Goof: When the girls are discussing cremating the coat, the laptop on the desk, when reflected in the mirror behind Rachel, is turned on, but when seen directly, is turned off.

    • Goof: When Rachel and Monica are apologizing to Danny, the whole wall shakes when he closes his door the second time.

  • Quotes

    • Joey: (about catching Monica and Chandler kissing) Hey, hey, hey! None of that. Not while you're living under my roof!

    • Chandler: Aren't you supposed to be at an audition for another hour?
Joey: Well, I'm sorry if I'm not a middle-aged black woman!

    • Joey: (about Chandler and Monica kissing in the living room, while he's in his bedroom) I can hear that!
Monica: (to Chandler) Rachel's at work.
      (Monica and Chandler quickly leave.)
Joey: I can still hear you!

    • Phoebe: Why would my mother send me a fur? Doesn't she know me but at all?! Plus, I have a perfectly fine coat that no innocent animal suffered to make!
Chandler: Yeah, just some nine year-old Filipino kids who worked their fingers bloody for twelve cents an hour.
      (Phoebe stares at him wide-eyed)
Chandler: That didn't happen... I made that up!

    • Monica: So basically, this is a getting-rid-of-everything-Rachel-ever-used sale.
Ross: Touched, used, sat on, slept on...
Gunther: (overhearing) I'll take it all.

    • Joey: Everything's gettin' all messed up, y'know? Emily won't let Ross see Rachel... we're not gonna stop seein' Rachel... hence, Ross... stops seein' us!
      : Oh, I hate this. Everything's changing.
Chandler: Yeah, I know... we're losing Ross... Joey said "hence"...

    • Monica: Look, I'm not happy about this either, but if Ross says he's happy, then we're just gonna have to keep our feelings about Emily to ourselves. (to Joey) Are you cool with that?
Joey: No... but, y'know... I'm an actor... I'll act cool. Probably be some of the hardest acting I've ever done. (picturing it) Maybe I'll play it with a mustache.

    • Monica: (looking for her waffle iron in the basement storage room) Here it is... right underneath a can of bug bomb. I wonder if the best place to put something that cooks food is underneath a can of poison.

    • Ross: (about the commute from his and Emily's new apartment) ...I've been given the gift of time!
Chandler: Y'know, it's so funny... 'cause last Christmas I got the gift of space. (after brief consideration) We should get them together and make a continuum.

    • Monica (about Phoebe's fur coat): Don't get too attached, she's having it cremated.
Rachel: What? Phoebe... honey... I know you're quirky and I get a big kick out of it--we all do, actually--but if you destroy a coat like this, I mean, that is like a crime against nature! (rethinks it)  Not nature--fashion!

    • Ross: Pheebs are you wearing fur?
Phoebe: Okay, let's get some perspective, people. It's not like I'm wearing a seeing-eye dog coat!

    • Joey: Hey, y'know Ross, I, uh, think I kinda understand why I... kinda lost it today.
      Ross: You do, huh?
Joey: Yeah, you see, um... Well, I'm an actor, right? So I gotta keep my emotions right at the surface, y'know? I got a lot o' balls in the air, y'know? It's tough! Guys like me, y'know, you wander around, you're alone...
Ross: What are you talking about?
Joey: (giving it some thought) I'm not sure.
