Special Guest Star
When playing Scrabble, Ross tells Phoebe that he doesn't think "scrunchy" is a word. It is, defined as "an elastic band covered with gathered fabric, used to fasten the hair, as in a ponytail". It can also be spelled "scrunchie".
Factual Error: Monica and Rachel were attempting to commit insurance fraud. In reality, while checking in all patients must provide ID unless it is an immediate emergency. However, it is the policy of all hospitals that they cannot turn away an obviously injured person regardless of their ability to pay. Rachel would have been treated and the issue of payment dealt with later.
Goof: When Monica says "We both do that," she's pointing at Rachel. When the camera angle changes her hands are on the couch, and in the next shot her hands are in her lap.
Continuity: Phoebe's birthday is inconsistent. In "The One with Frank Jr." Phoebe tells her half-brother that her birthday is February 16th. Also, in "The One with Two Parts (2)" Phoebe has a birthday party in February. However, in "The One Where Nana Dies Twice" Rachel talks about Phoebe's last birthday party. Since Rachel first met Phoebe earlier that season, this implies that Phoebe's birthday must have occurred since September, when Rachel first joined the group. Also, in "The One with Phoebe's Birthday Dinner", Phoebe's birthday is close to Halloween, consistent with Rachel's statement. Furthermore, in "The One Where They All Turn Thirty", the flashbacks of Phoebe's 30th birthday imply her birthday is in the summer.
Trivia: Here is the translation for the tag scene.
Ross: Aquí está.
Translation: Here it is.
Monica: ¿Quién pidió el pollo General Tso?
Translation: Who ordered General Tso's chicken?
Chandler: ¡Pudo haber sido General Tso!
Translation: It could've been General Tso!
Rachel: ¡Miren, miren, el viejo desnudo está haciendo el hula hoop!
Translation: Look, look, Ugly Naked Guy is doing the hula!
All: ¡Hola, Joey!
Translation: Hi, Joey!
Joey: ¡Hola, amigos!
Translation: Hey, everybody!
Monica: Mira, Ross, Marcel se llevó el control remoto.
Translation: Look, Ross, Marcel's got the remote.
Ross: ¡Lo curioso es que no le gusta la tele!
Translation: The funny thing is, he doesn't like TV!
Trivia: This is the first of five episodes in which Joey kisses Phoebe. The other ones are "The One with Barry and Mindy's Wedding", "The One Where They All Turn Thirty", "The One with the Red Sweater", and "The One with Phoebe's Birthday Dinner".
Goof: Rachel is limping in the hospital for the first time. When she gets back home, she walks perfectly fine. Then in the hospital, she starts to limp again.
Goof: When Monica fills in the form, she uses a pencil with an eraser, yet she stills asks for a new set of papers. She easily could have erased Rachel's info and written hers.
Goof: When Phoebe and Ursula are talking at Riff's, Phoebe's birthday present bag disappears when she moves towards the table. The bag fazes out when she gets to close to the split screen that is used when portraying two characters at once.
Goof: Since the producers didn't use real places in the story, they used computer graphics to superimpose fake names on real places. In this episode, they superimposed the name Riff's on some restaurant. During an exterior shot of Riff's at 39:10 on the double episode on the DVD, a man walks in front of the camera and for that split second the name Riff's is superimposed on his head.
Monica: (Filling out a paper at the hospital) Okay, are you currently on any medication?
Rachel: No. Oh, wait, wait! Yes. Blistex.
Monica: Uh, no.
Rachel: You know what?
Rachel: You know what?
Rachel: You know what?
Rachel: Every day, you are becoming more and more like your mother.
Monica: (On the phone pretending to be Rachel) Hi, Dad. No, no, it's me. Listen, Dad, I can't talk right now, um, but there's something, um... there's something that I've been meaning to tell you...
Rachel: (To their confused dates) Would you excuse me for a second? (Rushing to the kitchen to stop Monica)
Monica: (As Rachel) Remember back in freshman year? Well, Billy Dreskin and I had sex on your bed!
Ursula: Do you want some chicken?
Phoebe: No. No food with a face.
Ursula: You have not changed.
Phoebe: (Entering her surprise party) Oh, oh, oh! This is so great! Oh, my God! This was not at all scary. Hi everybody. Hi Betty! Betty, hi! You found Betty! Oh, my God! This is great. Everybody I love is in the same room. Where's Joey?
Chandler: Did you see Betty?
Joey: I'm taking Ursula tonight. It's her birthday.
Ross: Whoa. What about Phoebe's birthday?
Joey: When's that?
Joey: Oh, man. What are the odds of that happening?
Joey: Oh, have either one of you guys ever been to the Rainbow Room? Is it real expensive?
Chandler: Well, only if you order stuff.
Monica: Hi. Um, I'm gonna need a new set of these forms.
Admissions Woman: Why?
Monica: I am really an idiot. You see, I was filling out my friend's forms, and instead of putting her information, I put mine.
Admissions Woman: You are an idiot.
Rachel: I'm sorry that I said you were a cow in high school.
Monica: That's okay, I was a cow.
Rachel: I know. I'm just sorry I said it.
Ross: The doctor got the 'K' out. He also found a 'M' and an 'O'.
Chandler: We think he was trying to spell out 'MONKEY'.
Chandler: So you feel like a dad yet?
Ross: No. Why?
Chandler: Hey come on, you came through. You did what you had to do. That is very "dad."
Monica: (Yelling) Rach, are these your condoms?
Rachel: What? Sorry, that's Monica. She's drunk again.
Monica: (Pretending to be Rachel) See, I was supposed to get married, but I left the guy at the altar. Yeah, I know it's pretty selfish but, hey, that's me!

When playing both Phoebe and Ursula, Lisa Kudrow's sister doubles for the shoulder shots.
Elliott Gould and George Clooney would later co-star in Ocean's Eleven, a 2001 film.
Starting with this episode, Friends moved from 8:30 on Thursday to 9:30 for the remainder of the first season
It is stated in interviews that the reason it was decided that Phoebe would have a twin sister is because Friends and Mad About You aired on the same night, and viewers would be confused seeing Lisa Kudrow in two different shows on the same night.
The reason why the Ursula character was not simply dropped was because Lisa, knowing that new shows don't always work out, didn't want to lose a recurring character on an already established show that had a lot of years left on it. The idea of making Ursala and Phoebe twins was then brought up to cover both shows being on the same night.
This episode runs 24:28 on DVD (a typical sitcom runs about 22:00). Mostly scene extensions: a little more of Rachel on the phone with her dad, and a little more of Ursula at Riff's before Phoebe gets there.
This episode received an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Editing for a Series - Multi-Camera Production (Andy Zall).
George Clooney and Noah Wyle play doctors in this episode. Immediately after this episode aired, they were both seen as Dr. Doug Ross and John Carter on ER.
Dr. Mitchell: Look at this. It's from the cellars of Ernest and Tova Borgnine. So, how could we resist?
Ernest Borgnine is an Academy Award-winning American actor. Tova Borgnine is his fifth and current wife.
