  • Hilarious!

Probably one of the funniest of the season. Plot-wise, it was okay. But all the jokes and puns were just amazingly funny. Especially how Ross tries to scare Rachel & Phoebe, he even goes to an instructor that makes him look like a psycho. And then he attacks two complete strangers. All of that was hilarious. I also like how Rachel kept on referring the unagi was sushi. Monica & Chandler's plot was just as good. Monica slaving for Chandler when he pulled a tape out of his as* and it was actually from Janice! When I heard Janice's voice, I started cracking up! Joey's identical twin thing, eh. But still hilarious episode!moreless

    Laugh out Loud!!

I love this episode... the whole Unagi thing is great and makes for some really funny scenes.

I think Ross is great in this episode, really funny!!

Everytime I think of something that happened in this episode I laugh to myself!! From Rachel and Phoebe, to Monica, ross is obsessed with the whole Unagi concept.

I think my fav part of the episode is when Rachel and Phoebe hide behind the curtains at Ross' appartment and then jump out at him, and he jumps for his life... and then Rachel goes 'Ah... Salmon skin roll!!'

This is Friends at its ultimate best!!moreless
  • Unagi-state of total awareness....... or sushi:)

    10
This episode is mostly about Rachel and Phoebe taking self-defense classes and Ross trying to teach them how to achieve Unagi- state of total awareness or sushi;). On the other hand we have Joey trying to find identical twin so he can earn some money that he needs.Chandler is trying to make a present for Monica but he is not good at it, so he finds a tape without knowing that it is a tape that Janice made him and she also sings on it, well is it not a treat for ears:))

Anyway Ross was great in this episode, I laughed so much when he was pretending to be a sexual predator and when he attacked wrong women.

    "Chandler: Hey.

Ross: Chandler. I sensed it was you.

    Chandler: What?!

    Ross: Unagi. I'm always aware.

Chandler: Okay, are you aware unagi is an eel?"moreless

This episode was hilarious. I loved the whole concept of this episode. It is one of the bests. It was so funny! I loved when Ross was hiding behind the chair and Phoebe and Rachel see him and bring him to the floor. I especially liked the Monica and Chandler storyline in this episode. It was so hilarious when Monica put on the mixed tape and it was a birthday present for Chandler from Janice. It was so funny! This episode is definitely a series classic. This episode is exactly why I watch this series. This episode is another great installmentmoreless
  • i think i just peed my pants that was too funny!

    9.4
ok, i really didn't pee my pants, it's an expression! DANGER!!!!

Ross is such a wussy, even total stranger girls can kick his rear!

But i hate sit-coms i can predict, and i THOUGHT i was going to predict the Romantic Mix Tape incident, but i NEVER saw that coming!

I thot the music would be interupted by some tape-over...but something beyond the WORST thing possible happens! Chandler's ex-girlfriend, with the most HORRID NASAL voice (worse that Fran Fine from the Nanny)...she starts singing on the tape, and reveals that this is the tape she made for him for his birthday. Oh, what can be worse that giving your wife/fiance a tape made by your ex? Too Much! it was hillarious! Unpredictable, that is why i watch this series.moreless

Trivia, Notes, Quotes and Allusions

FILTER BY TYPE

  • TRIVIA (7)

    • Goof: In this episode Chandler says that Monica was working on Valentines Day, but in "The One with Rachel's Sister," Ross says that Jill asked him out for Valentines Day. In that episode Monica is sick, not at work.

    • Factual Error: Ross explains to Chandler that his Saturn V Rocket model is from the Apollo 8 mission and that Apollo 8 did not land on the moon but instead orbited the moon twice and returned safely to earth. In fact, Apollo 8 orbited the moon a total of ten times, not two.

    • Goof: When Joey shouts at Carl about pizza, Chandler, although backwards, is clearly laughing. However when the camera angle changes, his face is serious.

    • Goof: When Monica plays "The Way You Look Tonight" on the mix tape, after the first verse the song should go straight onto the second verse. But the song goes into an instrumental verse and Janice's voice is dubbed over.

    • Goof: When Chandler is in the bedroom trying to make Monica a present, He stretches out a hanger. When the camera angle changes, the hanger is not as stretched as it was before.

    • Goof: When Gunther tells Joey that a customer has been waiting for his coffee for ten minutes, he hands a mug to Joey. You can clearly see that the mug is empty.

    • Goof: When Monica got upset over the tape, why would Chandler keep playing it instead of turning it off?

  • QUOTES (18)

    • Doctor: (coming into waiting room) Joey and Tony Tribbiani.
      Joey: That's us.
Doctor: This is a study for identical twins.
Joey: That's right. Two thousand dollars.
      Doctor: But...you're not identical twins.
Joey: (stammers a bit, then yells) DAMMIT, CARL!

    • Joey: Carl is a guy I hired to be my identical twin for a medical research project.
Chandler: Y'know, sometimes the good ideas are just right in front of you, aren't they?
Joey: Okay, I know it sounds crazy, but I think it might work. Ya know? The only problem is, Carl's acting is… (gestures 'so-so')
      Monica: The only problem?!?!

    • Carl: (entering Monica's)) Hey Mon! Hey Chan! Just getting a soda (does so)
Monica: Who the hell are you?!?!
Carl: I'm Joey! How are you doing?!?
Joey: (running in) No! No! No! No! No! 'How you doin'; how you doin'?' Dammit, Carl! Go wait in the hall.
      (Carl exits)
Look, I got to apologize on the behalf of Carl.
Chandler: Who the hell is Carl?!?!
Joey: Oh; did I not mention?

    • Rachel & Phoebe: (Jumping out from behind the curtains) Danger!
      (Ross screams)
      Rachel: Ah... salmon skin roll.

    • Chandler: Guys, I need your help, I don't know what to get Monica for Valentine's Day.
Rachel: Well, Valentine's Day was two weeks ago so I wouldn't get her a calendar!

    • Phoebe: Now we can kick anybody's ass!
      Rachel: Yeah!
Ross: After one class? I don't think so.
Rachel: You wanna see me self-defense myself? Go over there and pretend you're a sexual predator! (Starts screaming) Go on I dare ya!

    • Ross: Why don't you pick up some extra shift here Joey?
Phoebe: Or, you know, I used to beg for money! Of course, it helps if you have a little of this going on. (Shakes her chest) Wow! I still have it!

    • Joey: What's with the twenty percent tip? Did I do something wrong?
Chandler: I think that's a generous tip Joe.
Joey: Hey, you know what's more generous than that? Fifty percent! You know what's even more generous than that?
Chandler: I see where you're going!

    • Chandler: I will cook anything you want in here. (Points to kitchen) And I will do anything you want in there. (Points to bedroom)
Monica: (Points to kitchen) Yeah, you will. (Points to bedroom) And are you kidding me?

    • Gunther: What did I tell about talking to your friends while you're working?
      Joey: Uh, do it?
Gunther: That guy's been waiting for his coffee for ten minutes. He's complained about you three times.
(Gunther hands Joey a cup of coffee and Joey starts drinking it himself)
Joey: (To his friends) So, where was I?

    • Joey: I gotta get these new headshots done and they're really expensive. I'm down to like three, well, two, because on this one I blackened some teeth . . . why did I do that!?

    • Ross: Okay, you sensed that was coming, but that still doesn't mean you have unagi.
Rachel: Oh, you know, if we made reservations we could have unagi in about a half hour.

    • Joey: Well how about this one? Testing the effects of Joey Tribbiani on attractive nurse receptionists.
Receptionist: We already got the results back on that, and they're not good.

    • Joey: Oh, ha ha ha! Ooh! Wait a minute, I used to get medical experiments done on me all the time!
      Chandler: Ah, finally an explanation.

    • Ross: Hey, remember when I had a monkey?
      Chandler: Yeah.
Ross: Yeah, what, what was I thinking?

    • Ross: Ah, Chandler I sensed it was you.
      Chandler: Huh?
      Ross: Unagi, I'm totally aware.
Chandler: Okay, so are you aware that unagi is an eel?

    • Ross: Danger! Danger!
      (Phoebe and Rachel scream)
Rachel: What the hell was that?
Ross: A lesson in the importance of Unagi.
      Phoebe: You're a freak!
Ross: Perhaps. Now at what point during those girlish screams would you have begun to kick my ass?
Rachel: Okay, so we weren't prepared.

    • Monica: I'll make you anything you want in there (Points to kitchen) and I'll do anything you want in there (Points to bedroom).
