NBC (ended 2004)

  • Season 3 Episode 7: The One with the Race Car...

  • Trivia: This is the first episode where we learn of Gunther's crush on Rachel.

  • Trivia: Phoebe is trying to think of Monica's middle name when signing for the bed. Throughout the ten seasons of Friends we only learn the middle names of three of the gang (Rachel Karen Green, Joseph Francis Tribbiani, Chandler Muriel Bing), but the other three middle names are never revealed. We learn in Season 2's "The One with the Bullies" that Monica's middle initial is "E", but that's the extent of it. It has been established that Ross's middle name is "Eustace", but not because it is mentioned in any episode. The only reason we know it at all is that the name, apparently, showed up in a script, and even though the scenes were never shot, the name went public anyway. Phoebe's middle name is a complete mystery--even to her.

  • Goof: In the scene where Joey is teaching soap opera for actors, he writes his name on the blackboard and then underlines it. In some shots the "a" is directly on the underline and the underline reaches the far right of the blackboard, while in others, the "a" is above the underline and the underline barely goes beyond "Tribbiani".

  • Goof: After the movers deliver the race-car bed, it is the only bed in Monica's room and occupies most of the central area; this is very obvious in the tag scene where Chandler is pretending to drive it. So, when did her original bed leave the room? In order to deliver the race-car bed, the movers would have first had to remove Monica's old bed, mattress and box spring, which clearly, they didn't. And even if Monica had prepared for the delivery by moving things out of her bedroom, herself, it would only have been for the delivery of the mattress she bought, not an entire bed. In subsequent episodes her old bed has conveniently reappeared.

  • Season 3 Episode 6: The One with the Flashback

  • Continuity: In all the Season 1 episodes, you see a shelf system in between the fridge and the wall in the guys' apartment. This is missing in this episode which takes place before the first season.

  • Trivia: Rachel's friend Kiki, played by Michele Maika, also appeared in "The One With George Stephanopoulos".

  • Continuity: In "The One with the Blackout" Phoebe mentions that she was the last one to know when Monica had a crush on Joey when he was moving in and Joey looks surprised. But it's pretty obvious in the flashback that Monica is attracted to Joey, even if she does only invite him in for lemonade.

  • Continuity: In this episode, Joey says that he's "okay with the whole gay thing" when he meets Chandler. However, in "The One Where Nana Dies Twice", Joey says he didn't think Chandler was gay when they first met.

  • Continuity: In "The One with the East German Laundry Detergent" Rachel says that she can't even send back soup. But in this episode, she has no problem sending back two drinks (although, this may be because of the personality change she's undergone since moving in with Monica).

  • Goof: When Ross and Phoebe are on the pool table, Phoebe lies down and the 9 ball is next to her left shoulder. When the shot cuts closer, it changes to the 13 ball. Then the shot cuts back and it's the 9 ball again.

  • Goof: When Ross is talking to Phoebe in the bar, he puts shot glasses on the bar in groups. When the camera switches angles they're in a straight line, and then they're in groups again.

  • Continuity: We find out in this episode that Carol told Ross she was a lesbian one year before the Season 1 pilot episode. Yet at the end of Season 1, almost two years later, their son Ben is born. Ross and Carol must have had sex a year after they separated and while Carol was with Susan.
Note: Regardless of when it was that Carol first realized she was a lesbian, we know that she and Ross didn't actually separate until the start of Season 1, so she wasn't "with Susan" at the time Ben was conceived. Carol discovers she is pregnant soon after she and Ross separate. In Season 9's "The One with the Boob Job" when Ross is describing his and Carol's marriage to Phoebe, he says that they had some good times before Carol became a lesbian and "once afterwards". This "once afterwards" likely refers to the time Ben was conceived.

  • Goof: When Joey strips in Monica's apartment, from behind you can see for just one quick second that he is wearing grayish briefs.

  • Continuity: The writers of the show have commented on how Chandler and Rachel met for the first time on three separate occasions. They meet in this episode which occurs a year before the pilot episode, then again in "The One Where Monica Gets a Roommate (a.k.a. Pilot)", and then we learn in "The One with All the Thanksgivings" that they met while Chandler was still in college.

  • Season 3 Episode 5: The One with Frank Jr.

  • Continuity: In this episode Rachel tells Phoebe that she's not supposed to bring cups out of Central Perk. However, in "The One With The Baby On The Bus", not only does Phoebe drink from a cup outside of Central Perk, but Rachel brings it out for her. Also, in "The One With A Chick And A Duck" Gunther (who was actually the person to tell Rachel that the cups weren't supposed to be brought out of the coffee place) brings out a cup of cocoa for Rachel.

  • Trivia: Chandler includes Jessica Rabbit on his "list". Ironically, Jessica Rabbit was voiced by Kathleen Turner who appears as Chandler's drag-queen father, Charles "Helena Handbasket" Bing, in Season 7's "The One with Chandler's Dad" and "The One with Chandler and Monica's Wedding".

  • Goof: At the end of this episode when Chandler locks Joey inside the entertainment unit, he supposedly gives Joey a five dollar bill, confirmed when Joey says "Hello Mr. Lincoln!" However, when Chandler takes out the bill from his wallet, it is clearly a one dollar bill.

  • Continuity: Monica is obsessed with cleaning throughout the entire series. However in this episode, she never noticed her bathroom floor was dingy, even though Joey, of all people, did.

  • Goof: The gang realizes that the entertainment cabinet is too big for the wall after they lift it up, but it would have been obvious when it was still lying on the floor.

  • Trivia: Ross mentions Susan Sarandon for his list, however, when she later appeared in "The One with Joey's New Brain" as Cecilia Monroe, she hooked up with Joey.
