Goof: When Ross mentions his father, Phoebe says that that is the third sign today that she should go see her father. Then, she goes on to list that the first one was the Buffet (his last name), the second one was was that they were serving Franks (his first name), and the third one was chicken (because she chickened out the last time). So when Ross mentions his father, it would be the fourth hint.
Goof: When Phoebe is returning the dog, a woman in the background wearing a blue shirt walks into her house twice.
Factual Error: At the diner where Monica gets a job, she and other employees dance "YMCA" by the Village People. However, the diner theme is the 1950s, while that song is from the 1970s.
Goof: When the dog jumps into the cab window, you can see the head of the person holding him.
Trivia: This episode has the only mention of Monica's middle name which begins with "E". (The actual name is never revealed throughout the series's ten years.)
Continuity: In this episode Phoebe watches Sesame Street with Ben. However, in "The One Where Phoebe Hates PBS", Phoebe says that she hates that program and PBS by association because after her mother committed suicide, she wrote to Sesame Street, hoping they could help her feel better, but all she received in reply was "a lousy key chain".
Goof: When Rachel is changing Ben's diaper, the reflection of a camera man is visible in the microwave door.
Trivia: In this episode, Ross says that he has planned that he and Rachel will have two kids, a boy and a girl, with the girl hopefully coming first. He says he thinks "Emily" would make a nice name. "Emily" is similar to "Emma," the name of his and Rachel's actual first child. Of additional interest is the fact that at the end of Season 4--beginning of Season 5, Ross marries a woman named "Emily".
Continuity: When Rachel is holding Ben in Central Perk, she is obviously uncomfortable while doing so. Furthermore, she states that she is "no good with babies." However, in "The One with the List," Ross uses how great she is with Ben as one of her pros. She is obviously not "great" with Ben.
Trivia: Ben's first word, "Hi!", was also Ross's first line in the series. Furthermore "Hi" was one of Ross's catchphrases throughout Friends.
Goof: At the beginning of the tag scene where Chandler and Joey carry the ceramic dog out of Joey's bedroom, there is an obvious cut. Several frames are missing as Joey suddenly appears in the doorway.
Goof: Both Ross and Richard would have been pretty certain they were going to have sex that night, yet neither of them brought protection. Why would they take for granted that the girls would provide it? Richard's comment about "seeing the schedule beforehand", suggests that he's leaving the entire matter to Monica.
Continuity: In this episode, Monica can't have sex with Richard because Rachel is using the last condom, but in "The One Where Eddie Moves In", it's mentioned that Monica uses a diaphragm as contraception.
Continuity: Richard reveals to Monica that he's only slept with two women: his ex-wife and Monica. Shortly thereafter, Ross makes a similar reference to Rachel about "both women" he's slept with. However, in a previous episode, it was confirmed that Ross slept with Julie (at least "twice!"), so that makes Carol, Julie, and now Rachel, a total of three women.
Goof: When Chandler and Eddie are trying to recall the capital of Cambodia, a boom mike is visible above Eddie's head.
"Crusty Old Man"
And a crusty old man said,
"I'll do what I can,"
and the rest of the rats played maracas.
Continuity: Monica says she straightened out Joey's shower curtain. However, "The One Where Eddie Moves In" shows that Joey's bathroom has a translucent shower door, not a curtain.
Trivia: This is the first episode where we see more of Monica and Rachel's apartment, including the bathroom, Monica's room, and Rachel's room.
Goof: Ross is getting under Monica's skin because of his constant presence in her apartment, but you have to wonder why he and Rachel aren't spending all their time at his place. Who wants their sister and her boyfriend around all the time, especially in the early, extremely intimate stages of a relationship? Of course, if the characters on Friends behaved the way normal people do, there wouldn't be much opportunity for comic situations.
Goof: When Ross, Rachel, Monica, and Phoebe are watching the Smelly Cat video, a boom microphone is visible at the top of the screen.
