Oh man, I can't believe this thread is still on page one, since I posted it in season #1!!!! Surprised But I guess they keep giving the actors a whole bunch of new stuff to do (Olivia then Faulivia then Olivia with Bell's mind, Walter/Walternate etc.)

Without a doubt, John Noble. I am so pleased he won a critics choice award! Of course he is helped by the writers and his chemistry with the rest of the cast but he says so much with just one expression. He is brilliant at bad, mad and sad.... I've just been rewatching season one and the scenes where he is trying to remember stuff but and the sadness which fills him when he can't and the horror that fills him when he starts to remember little bits and what he may have done. The way he is able to act with childish exuberance one minute, then lose his temper and exhibit any number of emotions in a totally believable fashion is not something you come across very often at all. He is, in my opinion the best TV actor around at the moment and if he doesn't get an Emmy then those awards mean nothing.

John Noble by far. I do not understand how he hasn't won an Emmy. Dr. Walter Bishop is one of the best written and best acted characters in TV history, in my opinion. Brilliant and childlike, bombastic and acquiescent, and all in the same scene. My favourite Walter line is from an episode in Season One. He is standing outside the diner where the "human nuke" has just exploded. Agent Broyles asked if he has any thoughts. Walter, looking at the HazMat techs asks, "Where can I get one of those suits?' Pure genius.

John Noble. Is there any doubt? Noble leaves everyone else in the dust.

It's not that the other cast members are inferior. They are not. They are superb. I've never seen any of them deliver a line that didn't ring absolutely true.

It's merely that in addition to being a superb actor, Noble also has the juiciest role. He gets to play a madman. An actor's dream. Even more desirable than playing a dying person.

He also gets to play Walternate. When John Noble plays Walternate, he comes across not as the same actor playing a different character. He comes across as a different actor playing a different character, one who bears no resemblance to either John Noble or Walter Bishop!

    Now that's acting!
