I think Fringe is one of the best shows i've watched for a very long time. It has suspense, romance and the right amount of humour. The cast chosen for this show are perfect. I am going to miss this show very much.
Fringe is without a doubt one of the best shows ever. It had everything you could wish for: intruiging storylines, a superb cast, and the perfect mix between suspense, humor and drama.
While I will certainly miss it, at least its finale brought closure to the major plotline of the story (something that's rare these days in television), even if it wasn't entirely "correct" in regard of timeline related events.
Also, to those that are saying the timeline reset at the wrong time and that Peter would have drowned in the lake because September wouldn't have saved him: actually, Peter would have survived, BUT in the other universe.
Our Walter would never have kidnapped Peter in the first place if the Observers didn't exist. Walter only crossed over because Walternate's cure for Peter's disease failed because Walternate was (accidentally) interrupted by September in the first place. If September didn't exist, he couldn't interrupt Walternate, hence Walternate would have seen that his cure was ready, hence Peter would have lived (in the other universe).
It doesn't explain why or how Peter crossed over to our side, and it opens up another major plothole (namely that the Fringe teams probably wouldn't have been assembled because Walter's trip to the other universe wouldn't have caused the Fringe events in the first place), but it explains why Peter is alive.
How he then ended up with Olivia remains a mystery, and could be "blamed" on fate I guess. Seeing that Michael seemed to know everything that would happen (Olivia saving him, Walter taking him into the future even after September offered to do it, the whole fate thing doesn't even seem too far fetched.
TL;DR version: Great show, good ending, Peter would have lived either way...
I discovered Fringe last April as I was finishing up my last bit of time at film school. It was the show I watched in those final months of finishing my own film that I found a thought provoking, emotional, character driven series that ended up being a nostalgia for me. I will always associate Fringe with the best part of my life. It's more than a show to me; it's a symbol of where I've been and where I hope to one day be. I can't express my respect enough for the creators, actors, and crew of this show. They've created something beautiful, and that's rare in science fiction; let alone television.
Yeah, I know, all the good things must come to an end.. But I'll stick with denial.
I'll miss all of the weard/creepy Fringe events, Astrid's nicknames ( Aspirin, Astro) , the challenges about their characters and relationships. It was really one of the coolest shows ever. (the other was Firefly)
So it is over... One of the best series of all time, which has been laborating with all kind of physics, metaphysics and so on, and done it quite well.
I was hooked from the first episode to the last, and the series and its writers have been able to renew themselves instead of, as most series, get lost on the way...
However, one thing annoys me greatly, and it has for the last three or four episodes of the series... If the master plan is to reset time and thereby change the course of history so the observers never exists... Then September never would have saved Peter as a child, so Peter would not exist either, as well as a lot of other people and events that lead up to Peter and Oliva coupling and getting Etta.
But on the other hand, as an experienced sci-fi viewer I understand the difficulties with having the time paradox in mind at all time, especially in a five season long series, so the above mentioned fault only drops my rating with half a point, in every other aspect this was a brilliant production.
I'll admit, the show has me hooked, I'm anxious to see the ending. However, one can understand why this is the last season, I think it would have been cancelled if they didn't intend on this being the final season. In a sense it was getting a bit too drawn out, and at the same time I felt like it was being rushed into futuristic episodes, at one point I was confused. But without doubt its a decent show, that deserves a happy ending. Goodbye Fringe!
This is the best science fiction series I have watched since Battlestar Galactica. Also best story about a parallel universe! It also has the best fictional character of a tv series, Dr. Walter Bishop!
since the networks and cable channels have decided to go cheap on us and make 99 percent REALITY TV shows, wrestling (on sci-fi!!) and are always cancelling great shows... i have cancelled my cable and no longer watch any tv... i download all my shows i like off the internet and have started watching alot of bbc shows from england. I'll not sit in front of the box and watch crap in the evenings after working all day. I want quality or nothing at all from the networks / cable channels. I SUGGEST WE ALL BOYCOTT THE TV for one week each month until the REALITY CRAP is taken off the air. That crap causes brain damage... it's totally unacceptable. No one is stupid enough to enjoy that crap except some inbred bigfoot half-breed. They want to produce the cheapest crap possible and still retain the ratings to get sponsors and advertising dollars. Don't give them the appearance of ratings by watching at all. Turn off you cable / sat and download... NO Commercials!!! and only watch what you want to watch when u want to watch it... been doing this for 4 years now and it's great. Only problem is, running out of shows to watch. Sci-Fi channel, now si-fi (junk now) sold out and became a cess-pool putting on fantasy and wrestling crap... was once the best channel on cable... anyways,
boycott cable / networks and download from internet...
watch ur shows without commercials or interuption...
hope the networks realize they're loosing their loyal viewers because we're NOT dumbing down and
we HATE reality TV crap...
screw u a-holes... you're idiots and you're gonna kill ur networks/channels if you keep on this way
I was actually starting to get bored of this show in season 4 until episode 19 where we got the first glimpse of the new season's story. The show has definitely gone in a different direction than past seasons but I find it refreshing & entertaining. Can't wait to see what happens in the rest of the season.
I personally think season 5 is their best yet! Sure they took a different approach with this one, a bit darker and more serialized then before but I like that. We get so much more depth of the characters and I think this is just a more mature version of the show. I will be very sad to see it go but at least it will end strong!
I have found enough in Fringe to watch all the seasons so far, but this is wrapping up too fast and personally I dont like it. I hope at least we will get some good episodes towards the end, but it is all too gray and sad. I cannot foresee any kind of happy ending or victory.
It's that they're going to kill it off in only 5 seasons. They should deffinitely push for 8 or 10. God knows if any show has the following and storyboard for it it's fringe. Like many of the big fans of fringe I wasn't that amazed by the first season which played like a poor rip of flthe x-files. But in the 2nd season the writers really let it rip, that's when I came back and I've been hooked ever since. Like I said with all the story lines that can be flushed out of this, even fringe prequel episodes, could be used to keep this going for 8 - 10 seasons. Don't believe me, remember SG-1. So I'm sort of dissapointed they're giving up so early, but it was a great ride while it lasted.
What a shame its entering its last season and the worst thing is that we only are going to have around 10 episodes. Where a we the scify people going to turn without fringe, eureka, and so many undervalued tv shows.
Oh, gee.... where do I start... was it the touching moments between "Afro" (lol) and Walter? Was it the reassurance in a single episode that every character had a development, it just keeps on improving on itself all the time! It's like Battlestar... I approve it ending because it is and will forever remain one of the best shows on TV because it has a story to tell and it sticks to it. From the outset of the latest season it remains what it was: a beautiful, kind hearted take on the character of Walter: the hero of the piece; a mad scientist with a love of food, drugs and music totally in line with family, friendship and the hope that it all means something. shucks. I was counting the minutes before it ended fringe writers and I'm hoping you follow in the same vein x
