Episode 3
The banjo as a classical instrument? Only on From the Top at Carnegie Hall. Béla Fleck, the man who reinvented the banjo, joins 14-year-old violinist Caroline Goulding from Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and 13-year-old cellist Gabriel Cabezas from Wilmette, Illinois, for performances of Debussy's "Doctor Gradus ad Parnassum" arranged by Fleck, as well as his own rousing composition for string quartet and banjo, "County Clare," inspired by a trip to the Emerald Isle. Fleck gets more than he bargained for when Caroline does a Martha Stewart-style makeover on his banjo case.moreless
