  • Ren fans arise, this episode is for you!

The plot is similar to the rugby team episode, but with an opportunity to poke fun at the Japanese mob.

Up until now, Ren Mikihara has just been a passive costar to Atsu in the series, but finally she gets to take her place as a lead character. She doesn't have any action sequences but delivers some of the best lines along with Kaname.

The subtle gags are fun to see, like when Kaname turns around and asks Ren about the yakuza, check out the TV screen, or when Bonta-kun leaves following a "bathroom break".

  • TRIVIA (1)

  • QUOTES (11)

    • (Ren and Kaname were rescued from the Ryujinkai gang, by the Bonta-kuns)
Kaname: That sure was an embarrassing way to be rescued.
Ren: Really? I believe they are cute, though.
Kaname: Well, I guess it was better than getting violent like in the movies. But Bonta-kuns coming to the rescue was weird.

    • (Japanese version)
Mikihara Gang member: It's that woman! She made Bonta-kun attack us at the amusement park!
Kaname: W-What?! You want to cause trouble again? I'll call Bonta-kun again. I'm going to make him Fumo-Fumo you until you cry!

    • Kaname (translating for Bonta-kun) Don't give me that. You're acting like street punks.
Gang member: But we are street punks!

    • (Bonta-kun leads the troops in a military marching song)
      Bonta-kun: Fumo, fumofumo, fumoffumo.
      Troops: Fumo, fumofumo, fumoffumo.
      Bonta-kun: Fumo, fumofumo, fumoffumo.
      Troops: Fumo, fumofumo, fumoffumo.
      Bonta-kun: Fu-mo.
      Troops: Fu-mo.
      etc.

    • Kaname: Why in the world am I always having to be kidnapped by bad guys like this?
Ren: Oh my. Ms. Chidori, have these things happened to you a lot before?
Kaname: Mm-hmm, thanks to a particular IDIOT.

    • (Ren approaches her father with some tea.)
Father: Sorry for all the trouble.
      (Father coughs)
      Ren: Oh no, father.
Father: I'm all right, don't you worry about me.
Ren: Oh, I meant the futon, I don't want it to get stained.
Father: Oh. (droops head in disappointment)

    • Kaname: (translating for Bonta-kun) You shouldn't judge anyone by their appearances. Doing that on the battlefield can get you killed.
Kanji: (mumbling as he gets up) Dammit. Frickin'...stuffed animal. But I gotta admit, you're strong. (faints again).

    • Takigawa: Hey, it's that girl, the one who sicced that Bonta-kun upon us when we went to the park.
Kaname: Yeah? So what about it? You wanna fight? I'll summon Bonta-kun. He'll fumoffu your ass 'til you cry!
Shibata: Summon him? You can actually do that?
Kaname: Uh, yeah, of course! If I blow my whistle three times, and he'll rush in.
Takigawa: You've got to be kidding me. Ambassador Magma does it that way.

    • Kaname: (interviewing Sousuke on the action) As a pro, what's your take on it, Mr. Sergeant?
Sousuke: It's pitiful. Their movements are way too linear. I'd rather see rookie soldiers dance.
Kaname: I see. Oh my, a bold move from a yakuza. It's the Axe Bomber. Oh, that's gotta hurt! So, which side do you think is gonna win?
Sousuke: Both lack firepower and skill, so the side that has the most men will win.

    • Kaname: Man, Why are all yakuza movies the same? All they do is grab their swords and charge. You'd think they'd come up with something better, like blowing away the enemy all at once, or shooting the boss.
Ren: Don't you think that's kind of violent? That's like something Sagara would say. Besides, Yakuza swords aren't that bad. They say if you learn to use it well, it makes you more of a man. You shouldn't just rely on your piece.
Kaname: Your piece? You mean gun?
      Ren: (giggles) Yes.
Kaname: Are you a yakuza movie fan or something?
      Ren: No, not particularly.

    • (quote also repeated by Kanji)
Yakuza on TV: A real man has to fight just once in his life, and even then, only if he's ready to die.

  • NOTES (1)

  • ALLUSIONS (2)

    • Ambassador Magma
The word, Ambassador, was censored in the subtitles as Amb(censored)ador, but only a few lines before the quote "He'll fumoffu your ass 'til you cry!" which wasn't censored. This is typical of Kyoto Animation programs when they refer to shows outside of their studio.

    • MSX
The system boot sequence of Bonta-kun OS is actually that of Sony MSX, the attempt to create standardized computers back in 1983.
