  • It's FMA episode 25 over again. A very sad episode.

I'm going to say ahead of time this review contains spoilers but I think most people already knows about what happens to the character of Maes Hughes from the original Anime. In this anime adaption he suffers a similar fate at the cruel hands of Envy while researching information on the Fifth Laboratory. While Ed goes to see his teacher with Al and Winry, Hughes goes off on a quest to find out what the military is doing ultimately realizing they are trying to create a huge transmutation circle around the entire country area. He however runs into Lust and Envy and while trying to give valuable information to Roy Mustang gets murdered. I'll be honest this episode didn't have as much an impact as the First Anime series because Hughes character lasted 25 episodes nearly half the life of the series but it's still hard to watch a man who loves his family, his wife and daughter so much murdered for such a stupid reason. It also shows the rise of Roy Mustang to avenge his fallen friend. Great episode.moreless

    • Winry: So why is it suddenly so important that you guys see your teacher?
Ed: Well there are a couple of reasons. For starters, I'm a little tired of gettin' my ass kicked.
Winry: Wait, is this some kind of combat teacher? Why don't you just quit fighting?
Ed: Oh that'd be nice, but sorry, it's not as simple as that, okay? This isn't only about our fighting, our core needs a little work too. Right, Al?
Al: Exactly. We feel like seeing our teacher will help us grow and make us stronger on the inside.
Ed: Yeah, and we're gonna need as much strength as we can get.
      Winry: Hm. What's reason two?
Ed: To see what she can tell us about the Philosopher's Stone.
Al: And to ask her about the truth within the truth. We haven't gotten any closer to figuring it out. There's a chance our teacher knows something about it.
Ed: Let's hope she at least gives us a chance to ask her. You should be more worried about explaining your appearance to her, Al, considering... considering... (suddenly becomes scared) She's gonna kill us when she finds out what happened!
Al: (is also scared) It would have been nice to at least have had a girlfriend before I died!
Winry: Maybe you guys should get a new teacher...

    • (Winry leaves the room to make a phone call.)
Hughes: (places hand on Ed's shoulder) She'll make you a fine wife someday.
      Ed: Don't start that again!
Hughes: (laughs) I would rather talk about my wife anyway.
