Edward visits Riza Hawkeye, eventually leading to a conversation about the war in Ishbal. Ed wishes to know what happened, so Hawkeye tells him about her part in the war. Serving as a sniper, Hawkeye surveyed the battlefield, adding to the region already fraught with bloodshed. While she was surrounded by fellow soldiers who shared her dissent with their involvement, there were people who shocked her to the core with a realization of how merciless war is. Hughes in this episode, supposedly from Central, are basically identical to those used in our world in the by the Free City of Danzig (an area created after WWI, re-annexed by Germany in WWII, conquered by Russia in 1945 (who expelled or killed the 95% of the city's population who were ethnically German and is now part of Poland).
