  • Trivia

    • Flexo, the Robot Elders, and Robot Santa don't appear amongst all the robots at Galapagos Island.

Response: the Robot Elders and Robot Santa are not residents of Earth (the Robot Elders live on the robot planet and Santa lives on Neptune), so they don't add to the air pollution and their destruction is not necessary. Of course, this doesn't explain the absence of Flexo, and the fact that Crushinator is among the other robots on the island, though she lives on the Moon.

    • Mr. Sunbeam from None like it Hot strongly resembles the Human Torch from the Marvel comics' Fantastic Four.

    • Among the familiar assembled robots on Galapagos Island are a Barrier-Bot from the NearDeath Star, Billionaire-Bot, Bender, Boxy, Calculon, Calculon's Evil Twin, Chain Smoker, Clamps (of the Robot Mafia), Clear Cutter, Crushinator, Daisy May 128K, Destructor, Donbot (of the Robot Mafia), Fat-Bot, Fender, Gearshift, Hedonism-Bot, some Hookerbots, Joey Mousepad (of the Robot Mafia), Keg Robot, a Killbot, Malfunctioning Eddie, Masked Unit, Masked Unit's Girlfriend, Monique, a NearDeath Star robot, Officer URL, Oily, a Postman-Bot from "A Biclops Built for Two," the Pizzeria chef robot from "A Fishful of Dollars," Reverend Lionel Preacherbot, Roberto, the Robo-Rooter from the ad in "Crustaceans in Love," Robot Devil, a robot dog owned by Robot Santa, The Slurm Vending Machine bot from "Mother's Day," the teenage popcorn-selling robot from "Raging Bender," Tinny Tim, iZac, the jacking-on robots from "Hell is Other Robots," several minions of the Robot Devil, and a robot that resembles the R.O.B accessory from Nintendo Entertainment system

    • Sign outside Kyoto: "Welcome to Kyoto, the anagram lover's Tokyo"

    • We learn in the episode A Taste of Freedom that Earth once fought a war for Halley's Comet - after this episode we know it was probably to protect the ice supply.

    • An Earth year is now one week longer.

    • Chlorine gas is exceptionally lethal, even in small doses. So either Nibbler didn't belch pure chlorine gas, or the writers didn't feel like being scientifically accurate to the nth degree.

    • Opening theme promotion: KNOWN TO CAUSE INSANITY IN LABORATORY MICE

    • LOOK HARD: During the robot riot, you see Roberto stabbing the robot that Joey and Clamps shot several times in Bender Gets Made.

    • The movie that the professor shows on global warming called GLOBAL WARMING or None Like It Hot! was featured in Al Gore's global warming movie An Inconvenient Truth. Possibly because he has appeared on two episodes of Futurama, and his daughter, Kristin Gore, worked as a writer on the show.

    • We can see an early version of Bender in the flashback.

    • How can there be global warming? in Xmas Story, we learned that a nuclear winter canceled out global warming.

(Edit) It's more than likely that it was only canceled out long enough to start the ice cube solution. Nuclear winter would eventually end and the sun would keep shining.

    • When Zoidberg goes on a rant about the invitation Bender receives, Hermes and the Professor can be seen sitting around naked. However, after Leela says "We all figured that out," we see Zoidberg again with Hermes in the background, except now he is wearing a Speedo of sorts.

    • Nixon and Wernstrom are flying a helicopter in space?

    • When they knock over Bender, Zoidberg's sweat is magically gone.

    • Nixon did not show any sweat until the "close up" shot of him, even though the closeup was not significantly closer than the other ones.

    • The paper sheets taped to the wall in the old classroom magically switch positions from shot to shot.

    • If Zoidberg is steaming inside his own shell, why doesn't he just take it off for a while? He didn't use to mind before.

    • When Bender comes back from saving the turtle he has those wooden shoes on but when Fry, Leela, Farnsworth, Hermes, Zoidberg and Amy go to knock Bender on his back, they are gone.

    • When we see the first shot of the Earth from space with the robot's emission fumes, the fire seems to be coming from Japan, not the Galapagos Islands. In the next shot of Earth it is coming from the Galapagos.

    • In The Lesser Of Two Evils, Flexo was able to carry chlorine in his stomach. Flexo is the same type of robot as Bender. But in this episode Bender starts rusting when he is touched by chlorine. How come chlorine has different effects on Bender and Flexo?

(edit) It was stated that Bender has an nickel impurity. Bender's impurity might have acted as a catalyst for the chemical reaction. It's also possible that Flexo sprayed the chlorine from a device inside him that was sheilded from the gas.

    • When professor Wormstrum declares that all robots should be permanently destroyed, Bender panics. However, the Civil Defense Robot is completely unaffected by the fact they he'd be destroyed as well.

RESPONSE: No, clearly he was panicing, why else would he stop the conference, if not to stop the discussion from going any further? Yes it's irrational, but that's what fear does to a person, organic and mechanical.

  • Quotes

    • Bender:(To his turtle) Poor guy. Maybe you'll feel better if I had a drink.
(He starts pushing down on a keg pump, but nothing comes out)
Bender: Crummy keg! It's completely ta....(he looks to see the keg is a robot) Oh, you're a robot.
      Keg Robot: Don't stop.
Bender:(pulls his hand off the pump) Ew!

    • Al Gore: Well, I must leave now. I have to help collect rocks in Jupiter. PEACE OUT, Y'ALL!
(Gore's head blasts out of the conference hall with rockets attached to his jar head)

    • Nixon: You fellas enjoy yourselves for the next 2 hours. And be sure not to leave the island, uh for at least 2 hours! I'm going out to pick up some smokes. Uh really good smokes! 2 hours.

    • Fry: Wait! We could hide you! We'll pile fruit on you and claim you're a bowl.

    • Farnsworth: Oh this is all my fault!
Fry: That's awful Professor. Especially the making out part.
Al Gore: Yeah, I didn't need to hear that.

    • Farnsworth: I know the source of the greenhouse gases. But in my shame I've kept it secret for 75 long years. Ohhh, it haunts my memory still!
(He holds a ray gun up to his head)
Fry: Professor no, don't do it!
Farnsworth: Don't do what? Don't use this memory ray so I can remember what happened back then?

    • Amy: Professor Farnsworth, you're a scientist!
Farnsworth: Forget it I'm not going! I have my reasons! Shut up all of you!
Hermes: Strange. You haven't acted suspicious since I found those "ape bones" in the basement.
Farnsworth: My hip hurts! I'm in the middle of cooking a turkey! I have warranty cards to fill out! I'm not just making excuses! Alright I'll go!

    • Leela: Bender a turtle isn't yourself. Why do you care about it?

    • Fry: Wow! That ice dispenser's so big, the ice crushes you! (he chuckles) Yako Smirnoff said it!
      Leela: No he didn't!

    • Fry: Wait! Where do we get the ice?
Farnsworth: The wha? Oh Halley's Comet of course. The only sufficent source of ice cubes that don't have bugs in them!

    • Zoidberg: Hurry up with the water, I'm steaming in my own shell I am, it's that hot it is!

    • Nixon: Professor, for saving the Earth and foiling me, I proudly, yet angrily, present you with Earth's new highest honour: The Polluting Medal Of Pollution.

    • Farnsworth: I've devised a way to save you and to stop global warming at the same time! Granted you're all blasting out greenhouse gases.
      Bender: You're one to talk!

    • Bender: Fry, as you know, there are lots of things I'm willing to kill for. Jewels, vengence, Father O'Mally's weedwhacker. But at long last I've found something I'm willing to die for. This mindless turtle.
Fry: Bender, this world isn't good enough for you.
Bender: Not even close. Goodbye everybody. Don't touch my stuff after I'm dead! It's booby trapped.

    • Nixon: Do you like to party? To boogie down? Well I'm throwing an all night beach raver for my robot pals. It all goes down Saturday on the isolated Galapogas Islands where there will be no escape - from the fun! All robots must attend!
Zoidberg: Strange. Why would Nixon, an awkward, uncomfortabble man suddenly throw a party? One of the most social events imaginable. It's a trap is why! They're going to deactivate all the robots!... I don't hear any gasping.
Leela: We all figured that out.
      Zoidberg: Ohh!

    • Wernstrum: Uh, so the robots are to blame. As I suspected. We are left with only one possible course of action. Grim though it be.
Bender: I got a good feeling about this!

    • Fry: Professor, you're a Professor. You must have some ideas.
Farnsworth: Absolutely not! I won't speak! I've got nothing to hide!
Gore: Our next speaker is -
      Farnsworth: I demand the floor!
Gore: Yes, it's your turn to speak.
Farnsworth: Well nuts to me. I'm taking the stage!

    • Al Gore: My fellow Earthicans, as I discuss in my book, "Earth In The Balance" and the much more popular "Harry Potter And The Balance Of Earth" we need to defend our planet against pollution. As well as dark wizards.
      (In the audience)
      Wizard: Sure... blame the wizards!

    • Hermes: What could you possibly have in common with this walking soup mix?
Bender: For one thing, we both have a tough outer shell. But lead a rich, inner life. Also...well you know.
Leela: You're both alcoholic, whore-mongering, chain smoking gamblers?

    • Fry: Wow! Mining a comet! That sounds fun!
Farnsworth: Yes there's no safer occupation than mining! Especially when you're on a snowball whipping through space at a million miles an hour!

    • Man: You're probably wondering why your ice cream went away. Well Suzie, the culprit isn't foreigners, it's global warming!
      Suzie: Gwobal wappa?
      Man: Uh, yeah!

    • Civil Defense Bot: Calling all scientists. Calling all scientists. Be advised there will be a worldwide conference on global warming in Kyoto, Japan.
      (Scientist runs up.)
Scientist: I've got a degree in Homeopathic Medicine.
Civil Defense Bot: You've got a degree in bologna!
      (Sprays scientist with water hose.)

    • Bender: We pollute too much! We're destroying the world and killing the turtles!
      Preacherbot:To Hell with the Turtles!
      Bender:No one insults the Turtles!

    • Man: Every once and a while we dump a big piece of ice in the ocean, solving our problems once and for all.
      Girl: But...
Man: ONCE AND FOR ALL! (he smiles)

    • Joan Rivers: Oh, oh, oh! It's professor Hubert Farnsworth! He's looking sharp in his standard white lab-coat and dark slacks. His wrist watch is a Casio!

    • Speaker: It is my pleasure to introduce the host of the Kyoto global warming convention. The inventor of the environment and first emperor of the moon: Al Gore!

    • Fry: Man, it's hot! How hot is it? It's so hot, I poured McDonalds coffee in my lap to cool off!

    • Gay Man #1: People say I'm CRAZY for building this ark!
Gay Man #2: You are crazy! You filled the boat with same-sex animals!
Gay Man #1: Hey! There are parts of the bible I like, and parts I don't like!

    • Farnsworth: A billion robot lives are about to be extinguished. Ohh, the Jedi will feel this one!

  • Notes

    • Fry is wearing warm clothing, but it's never explained why. Scenes were deleted to show he stuck ALL his clothes in the freezer. They can be found on the Season 4 DVD.

    • Alien Code: The picture of the termometer has F 7 3 written on the right side.

    • When the crew goes to Japan, they pass by a sign that looks a lot like the Hello Kitty signs. It also has a phrase written in Japanese. When translated it says "I Love You More Than Your Mother Does!"

    • Alien code: When the professor shows the movie on Global Warming, Alien Code #1 is seen in another countdown. When translated in order it reads: "6, 5, CC4FF, 3, 2."

    • All the episodes from this Season are actually for the 4th Season based on production order.

    • In a few parts of the US this episode wasn't shown due to an over-run football game.

  • Allusions

    • Monty Python and the Holy Grail

The wizard at the Global Warming Convention resembles Tim, the wizard from Monty Python's legendary movie.

    • The boat taking Bender and the other robots to Nixon's party is called the Galapagos Princess, which is a reference to the Pacific Princess used on The Love Boat.

    • Star Wars: Episode IV
When the mirror is being readied to fire the laser the tracking system looks like the Death Star's tracking system.

    • Title: Crimes of the Hot

The episode title is a rewording of the movie title Crimes of the Heart.

    • Al Gore announces "I have ridden the mighty Moon Worm". This is a reference to Paul Muad'Dib from the classic sci-fi novel Dune.

    • The tagline to the global warming short, "None like it hot" is a parody on the film title Some Like it Hot, with Marilyn Monroe.

    • The scenes in which the body of Spiro Agnew is carrying around the head of Richard Nixon is an allusion to a movie called Reanimator in which a doctor is beheaded and his head and body are reanimated and the body carries the head around, much like Agnew is carrying Nixon.

    • In a wide shot of the Galopogos Islands, amongst the large crowd of robots, we see a bantha, the main means of conveyance for the Sand People of Star Wars.

    • Leela: Would you do it for a Bender snack?
This is a reference to the Scooby Doo show and it seems that beer is the equivalent of a Scooby Snack to Bender. In the show, a Scooby Snack would make all the dog's reservations and fear wane, making him willing to perform almost any task.

    • Armageddon:
Planet Express crew approaching the comet in order to mine ice seems a tad like an Armageddon movie reference.

    • Farnsworth: A billion robot lives are about to be extinguished. Ohh, the Jedis will feel this one.
The reference is from Star Wars Episode 4: A New Hope and the planet destroyed is Alderaan.

    • Prof. Farnsworth: Back then you see robots were slow moving, stiff, and a bit on the uptight side.
The robot the professor made was C3PO from Star Wars.

    • Global Warming Conference

The Global Warming Conference is held in Kyoto, a reference to the International Kyoto Protocol which was an international agreement to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, in an attempt to reduce global warming. The United States withdrew its signature from the Kyoto Protocol once George W. Bush stepped into presidency. Opponents say the Protocol is designed to harm developed nations economically and would not be effective at reducing emissions. It was rejected by the Senate in 1998.
